At a guess I’d say it’s people who wish to buy it at a cheaper cost like the iPhone 7 and 6S. It’s a growing market and older models are selling well.

I read through the thread and I didn't really see anyone mentioning that, but maybe. I don't think anyone will have an issue getting a 2017 X if they really want it.

I have thought a lot about this topic. I have had iphones for years and the SE and X were my first new ones. To me I am confused and be kind please but rather sad. I think this iphone X that i have is incredible. I have had not the first issue with it. So Apple will discontinue this phone? What does that actually mean? Does it mean that I will have this gargantuan iup bill I am paying monthly on for a phone that is no longer viable? Will that mean that it isn't updated like the 5c? So does this mean I will have no choice but to switch to a different one in a year? I planned on keeping this till it is paid off.

It means absolutely nothing to you, the user. Your phone will work the same as it does now and continue to be supported.

No. That’s why this whole issue is being over sensationalized. Your phone isn’t going to stop working. It just doesn’t make sense to mark down a uber premium priced phone in its second year. This fall’s iPhone X 2.0 will be almost like iPhone X, just with updated internals. It’ll be just like the or similar to what happened with the 5s and 5.

Your phone will still work fine and will still be supported by Apple.

He is talking about folks like me who can afford it, but don't see the need to spend the money since my current phones are still doing everything well that we ask them to do. In my case it's a 6S/SE.

Okay? Plenty of cheap options out there.
Don't need the cheap options since I am not in the market at this time, and as noted I can afford $1K. When it's time to replace the iPhone, I am hoping to stay in the  infrastructure/ecosystem. That will depend on what  offers at that time.

I'm not really bothered if mine is EOL'd - as long as it gets updates. I am fairly confident that my 8 will be shelved, too as one of the last iPhones with a home button.

they never said end of life. they said it would not be part of the line up next year. you cant have 2 top tier phones. you will have the 11 and 11 plus

Same here. I’m due for upgrade in August/September so i’ll see what new options Apple bring and if they are still pushing £1k phones i’ll just buy a cheaper older iPhone model that essentially does the same thing. Like yourself I could afford to pay the premium but I just can’t justify it. If I could get a cheaper X later in the year or an iPhone 8 then I win whatever way as it’s an upgrade from what I already have.

A lot of people on here don’t seem to understand ‘cheaper’ does not mean a totally different operating system. Older model iPhones do get price reductions and offer better deals on contract.

Thank you for both of your responses. I love my iphone X and I guess I really shouldn't read posts like this but then it popped up in my news feed and gave reference back to this forum. I am just going to relax and continue and enjoying my phone.

That's kind of where I'm at. I'm still rocking my iPhone 6 which does everything I need it to do. I can afford to upgrade, but I have this thing about wanting to get value for my money. I haven't seen anything in the X, or for that matter the 6S, 7 or 8, that would make a significant enough improvement in the things I use my to justify upgrading just for the sake of upgrading. FaceID sounds interesting, but not necessarily any more useful than the fingerprint sensor on the home button which I like and use a lot. When my 6 gives up the ghost, I expect I'll replace it with an 8 because the footprint and features of that line match my usage requirements.

I consider mobile phones to be somewhat analogous to cars these days. I don't buy a new car just because they've changed the look of the tail lights. I buy a car because my existing one needs replacement or because my usage changes, I.E. I need to move from a sedan to a vehicle that can tow a boat.

I just bought an X yesterday after reading this article. All I see from this is that unlike the past they will not offer the previous generation along with the new gen. Nothing like the doom and gloom some are taking this as. Its appears to be confusing to some because I don't think they have ever introduced 2 premium phones together ( iPhone 8 and iPhone X). They can't have an 8, X and whatever the new phone will be called. That's too cluttered.

What it means is that people are jealous of your iPhone X and are looking for any nugget of misinformation to discredit it.

Don't pay any attention to it at all.

The iPhone 8 is the premium iPhone whose price will be greatly reduced, just wait and see. Wireless charging is a big deal, gets people to upgrade from the 6 or 7.

Slashing the price of the X accomplishes nothing for Apple. It's their most profitable product and with OLED and Face ID they could never de-feature it enough to make it their go-to basic phone like the 7 is today.

Like you, I held onto my 6 because there wasn't a compelling reason to upgrade to a 6S, 7, or 8. But let me tell you something about the iPhone X:

It's 4:25 in the afternoon and I still have 85% battery life left.

Face ID is so fast and dependable that I don't even think about security on my phone any longer, it's as if its not there.

Apple Pay is faster with Face ID than it was with Touch ID and I use Apple Pay all day long.

Wireless Charging is a gamechanger, when I enter my bedroom at midnight with the wife already asleep I don't need to fumble around for Lightning cables in the dark, I just lie my X down and go to bed.

Gestures are amazingly versatile, they become second nature, you don't miss the home button at all. In fact, on my iPad, I curse the thing every time I gesture and nothing happens.

And as a father who shoots a lot of home video, the camera is off the charts better than the one in the 6, the color depth and the clarity and the low light performance is vastly superior.

Point being, there is a lot of good in the iPhone X.

I appreciate your perspective boltjames, and it sounds like the new features are definitely an asset to your use case. My usage is a just a little bit different. :)

It's coming up on 6PM my time and I'm still at 89% on my old 6 with original battery. I telecommute almost 100%, business communications are through a corporate laptop, and I'm more likely to use my retina MacBook for personal email/calendar/applications when home. So my iPhone tends to sit idle outside of evenings, weekends and when traveling. As such, the battery is still quite good. I use my Apple Watch for Apple Pay and that's plenty convenient. My wife is the primary photographer in the house, and we did replace her 6+ with an 8+ recently when the former died, so we've got the newer camera.

Obviously I have no problem investing in Apple tech, and will replace my 6 with something current when my phone does die. But the phone is only one piece of the Apple Watch/iPhone/MacBook trio. The ROI on getting a new model when my 6 is still perfectly functional just isn't there. And again, my comfort with the 6 and relatively low usage makes staying with that form factor in the 8 a better value proposition than spending more on an X that I might not use that much, at least at this point in time.

Clearly OP is just trying to get a rise out of people with the same old doom and gloom narrative they like to preach. Nothing to see here.

Actually, I think some just want to see Apple fail as a company and they try to project any articles that can be generated off the Internet that place Apple in a negative light. It's usually because someone doesn't agree with the transition Apple has made over the years with their product line and how it does not meet their expectations, therefore, they want to spread negativity.

That's a fair point also. It seems like this sort of narrative has increased over the last year. I don't think Apple is perfect by any means and there is plenty of room for improvement, but I try to look at it from a big picture perspective. Overall, they provide the best value for me.

And, although Apple isn't a society of saints, their policies on issues like data privacy absolutely shine compared to most other tech companies.

Prominent Apple fanboi won't be surprised if it turns out to be true...

I don't understand it, especially when the hate comes from Americans - Apple is the USA's most successful tech giant of recent times (maybe ever?). Isn't there pride to be had there? There's no denying they make great products, but that doesn't stop people from hating to the point of desire to see them collapse. Fine, there may be better products by competitors that suit your needs, but there's no need to treat Apple like they ran over your dog...

Absolutely. That is a big reason I wouldn't switch to android. Ultimately I feel that hardware will all become similar at some point, a glass slab, but it's the other aspects that Apple leads in that will keep me buying. Performance, privacy, security, apps, ecosystem, and support. I don't see a competitor doing better in these areas anytime soon.

That's true also. Personally I would rather support the greatest American company in our lifetime over a South Korean company, for example, that only got into this game by copying the American company.
[doublepost=1516970394][/doublepost]It's funny, someone in my office walked by me and saw my X and said "I heard they stopped selling those because they weren't selling any." And this is someone who knows nothing about Apple or tech or pays attention to any of this stuff. For some reason, people love to paint a negative picture when it comes to Apple, not sure why.

Disappointed on IPhone, they were cancelled our iPhone X meant that’s our device has no value on the market. I’m worried of trading an new iphone since released on 2018 September they won’t accept or decrease the value market on our device.
