The iPhone 8 is virtually the X without the notch, OLED display, and Face ID

you forgot 4.7" v 5.8" ;)

Where i live the biggest telco in the country has given the 8 their bluetick, which means it has better hand held signal in rural areas, one thing it has that the 8 plus and X never will.
The last iPhones that got it were 6S and 4S, no plus ever has.

Oh true haha. Also I thought the Plus size was 5.5" and the X was 5.8"

(I mean the 8 Plus as it's closest to the size of the X)

For me it’s helpful in that I can unlock the phone without it needing to be directly in front of my face, at a specific distance, in “ideal” lightning. I can have it unlocked at an indirect angle before I actually am looking at my phone and have it ready to be used when I put it up in front of my face not after I put it in front of my face.

Read my post again. FaceID never requires “ideal” lighting. It works in total absolute darkness. I use it all the time in a dark bedroom. It unlocks instantly when I look at it. Distance is not an issue. I never wait on my iPhone X to be ready to use. If your iPhone X isn’t unlocked and ready when you are, something is wrong with it.

  • Raise to wake is on by default. If raise to wake is disabled, you tap screen (anywhere) and swipe up for home screen as opposed to simply raising your phone and swiping up to go to home screen. If someone decides to disable a default feature, that’s their choice to add the extra step.

"Decides?"

No, Apple forces us to disable that inane "feature" by not giving it any intelligence. Maybe someday it will disable itself when the flashlight is on and also light up the screen at minimal illumination in the dark. I'll turn it back on then.

Until that happens, though, it's Apple's design choices that made me turn it off. That's their fault, not mine.

Off topic but has anyone used the AirPods or Powerbeats with their phone? If yes which do you recommend? I had the Powerbeats build quality is terrible...

For the person wanting to know where i get it cheap it was off offerup, girl bought it for his boyfriend they broke up and was outside of the return policy lol she sold it to me quick and that's it.
Iphone x is nice not saying is not, but if you are person who drives a lot, check its phone all the time touch id is like second nature, it never failed on me not even first gen.

Mine lights up the screen at minimal illumination in the dark. Did you turn off auto brightness? Doesn’t bother me that it works when the flashlight is on.

I think you are the first person I have ever heard or read about say that they disabled raise-to-wake, or had complaints about how it is implemented. I’ve certainly never been bothered by it. I really like it. Of course you are entitled to your opinions just as I am, but disabling the feature has a minor trade off of having to tap the screen to wake the phone. Perhaps Apple will alter the implementation more to your liking, and perhaps not. Either way every setting you change has a trade off.

Where I live (Washington State) it’s not legal to operate a smartphone while driving, even if you are stopped at a light. You can mount it to the dashboard to use the driving directions as long as interaction is minimal, or to talk hands free. Mounted to the dash FaceID will work, but it’s safer to rely on Siri.

I can entertain your post. The AirPods are specifically made for the iPhone and a pair instantly, have excellent battery life, have convenient little features when you pull one AirPod out, will pause/play the music for you, 15 minutes of charging is equivalent to three hours of usage. Just the fact that you can charge your AirPods while it’s in the battery case when you’re mobile is worth the price tag. I Find the audio to be adequate for my needs, They are loud and crisp. Also, the build quality with the AirPods is very good as well, as they feel solid. Highly recommend.

You need your face to be scanned to unlock your iPhone. The iPhone needs to be put in front of your face to do that. It is physically impossible to have your iPhone scan your face when it’s it your pocket or sitting on the table or desk in front of you when Face ID scanner is pointed at the ceiling. Because of this need to scan your face before unlocking, it will never actually be “ready to use” until you physically position the iPhone in front of your face unlike Touch ID where you can unlock your phone as soon as it’s in your hand.

It’s also highly possible that there could be something wrong with my iPhone X but then again I’m not the only reporting this type of difficulty.

I have a set of AirPods and completely agree with this review although the AirPods being worth the price tag really depends on what your needs are and if the features of the AirPods fulfills those needs. They are extremely easy to use with an iPhone.

That being said I also have an off brand pair of completely wireless powerbeats style earbuds that I use 6-7x a week specifically for working out that are bullet proof in terms of sweat resistance and durability. They also have better bass, are louder, cost less than $30 and arguably have the same feature set as the AirPods minus the instant pairing which literally only saves maybe 10 seconds.

AirPods get used mostly at the office or phone calls and the off brand powerbeats are for sweaty workouts.

Okay thanks!
How do you clean them may I asK. Like how do you get wax out?

The flashlight thing is the main reason I disabled it. It’s impossible to look for things in the dark when the bright screen is shining right in your face.

And yes, auto-brightness is on. I think the problem is that I often use the flashlight to look in dark places in an otherwise lit room. Like behind computer racks, under desks, etc. Not at night, in other words.

Hmmm
The thing is the Powerbeats costs almost the same price as the AirPods....yet I have read some really bad reviews about them in terms of durability etc....Many complain that they end up sending them back after a month or so because they stop working,
Only reason I was thinking of getting them was because I wanted earphones that block out more sound since I use public transport a lot etc...and the AirPods are not really good for that I am told.

Bose QuietComfort 35 II are all the bluetooth headphones you ever need. Apparently best noise cancelling tech in the industry! :)

The gloves refer to your statement about faceid not working if you cover your face with a ski mask. Your comment is just as ridiculous and I was pointing that out
Seriously stop trolling. The Internet would be so much better without people like you. The entire point of MY comments are exactly that the systems fail in different ways -- faceId when there are issues reading faces and touchID when there are issues reading fingerprints. Bringing up gloves obviously falls into that category, and yet you feel compelled to try create some kind of argument out of it. If you have nothing constructive to contribute, don't say anything at all.

I am baffled and worn out by the whole of this discussion. I can only conclude and have experienced both Face ID and Touch ID to be imperfect, depending on one’s circumstance. When human beings interact with their phones, in such varying ways and within so many different environments, there is bound to be considerable deviation. For some. Touch ID is superior, for others Face ID is superior. Still, for others, both biometrics present problems. Choose your phone model that is best for your individual needs and circumstances, with all its limitations. It’s only a phone. Not an extension of yourself. Life is short and precious. Make the best choice for YOU and move on.

You're overestimating the importance of these discussion boards. If we can't argue about inane things, what's it all for? :p

If an alien race has/will visit(s) our planet. They will search our Internet full of information and determine that we built a technologically advanced worldwide communication and multimedia network in order to discuss our personal preferences for pretty much everything. Don't quote me on the actual number, but it seems like 5% of all internet resources are devoted to discussions regarding the best way to cook an egg.

Without the Internet, our smartphones wouldn't be as smart and we would have to visit the local Apple or Telecom store to find enough people who care enough to argue about such things.
