Nope, i am not buying an other iPhone again unless:
1. 5G
2. No idiotic notch
3. Headphone jack.

It looks like the iPhone X is the last iPhone for me. Android phones are leaving Apple in the dust now.

Your option number #3 is not a reality anymore, the 3.5 mm Jack is never coming back, and that you can be certain of.

As for the notch, I do see that being reduced or eventually eliminated, but that technology is not mature enough until the component reduction allows for it or if it’s under the display altogether.

Probably not. XI doesnt look like a major redesign. And my X is absolutely phenomenal int erms of everything atm. Be it performance, design etc. So I am really really happy with it. I will probably upgrade when the next big redesign happens and that looks to be iphone XII (they REALLY need to do something about iphone numbering. It is getting ridiculous).

This is from Forbes which show a 2020 iPhone Max and the regular iPhone (both are in front). It appears that the 2020 iPhone is shrinking from 5.8 inches to 5.4 inches.

I personally would be very happy with a 5.4in iPhone XII. It makes be think that rather than upgrade to the 2019 iPhone just wait another year for the re-design. Over time I’ve learned that I prefer the smaller phones but that is a personal choice.

Be surprised if notch gets that much smaller...

I’m of the same mindset and will wait until 2020 as well. From the leaks, I don’t see anything that would make me want to upgrade this from my X. I just hope they don’t nerf the specs on the smaller 2020 variant.

I could live with a slightly smaller phone, but I don't look at my X every day and think I need it to be replaced yet.

In fact, I'm getting tired of spending $900 or more on phones.

Just went through a layoff and hire by the company that won the contract, which has got me thinking more of saving money. I was rehired but many weren't.

I still like my X, bought in December 2017. With 256 gb of storage, I feel no need to switch yet. The size of the screen is nice, the notch does not bother me anymore.
I would welcome a smaller form factor though, depending on the pants I'm wearing the X can be a bit too high and dig into my waist while seating.

One more unpleasant aspect, which will probably not be solved by the XI (or the XII, for that matter): that glass back. I do not use wireless charging, so it bears no advantage for me (yet, at least). The disadvantages are already there though: it shattered some weeks ago, making the phone a bit awkward to hold in the hand since it's losing glass shards and it's not flat anymore along the cracks.
I don't like cases, so I thought about a skin for the back. Unfortunately, since the glass panel already lost shards along the edges, it would probably not stick right and lift at the corners.
I can't even replace the phone, since I want to keep an older iOS version 'cause jailbreak.
I'm in a bit of a conundrum!

From your perspective, if Apple does ‘Nerf’ the specs on a smaller 2020 iPhone, and if it comes in at a cheaper price, then you can be guaranteed that they won’t be including all the features the other more expensive iPhone models have. There has to be a separation in terms of what each phone offers based on the price point, and of course, if a Phone is cheaper, naturally to keep the cost reduced, it can’t include everything the latest phones have. So in theory, yes, the smaller/cheaper iPhone likely will not include all the latest specifications.

I'm actually wanting to go back to the iPhone X. I regret everyday going to the Xs Max. Connectivity is horrible for me and I'm willing to pay an extra $100 out of pocket to go back. The X was the best all around phone for me, IMO. Intel > whatever crap Apple uses now.

I feel your pain.

At one point I had the X but then switched back to the SE as the X was a bit too big and heavy. Lately I've been seriously contemplating about joining the dark side and picking up a Pixel 3/3a but then noticed the new rumours of an alleged 5.4" iPhone.

I'll wait until 2020. I still love my SE but I know there's so much that can be improved on it. As long as the 5.4" retains parity with the features of its bigger siblings, I'll be happy and be there day one.

I used to upgrade every launch day but I can't get past that monstrosity camera. I do not plan to upgrade this time around.

I'll be forced to update this year, since my iPhone 6 won't receive any further software updates, and so I won't be able to use an Apple Watch with watchOS 6. I hate the huge size and weight of the current iPhone line-up, and I'm not going to pay €1300+ on a device this big, so I'll probably just get a used iPhone 8 or X, prices should fall even further after September.

Already have the X and will probably skip 2019 unless it has some breakthrough feature. X has been sufficient and i’ve only upgraded once my phone starts feeling sluggish from a new bloated OS.

I was just thinking the same thing. I like my Max but its not worth the price I paid for it. I had a perfectly fine working X before this and I really didnt have any reason to upgrade besides the bigger screen which I dont even care about anymore. I do notice the connectivity difference. My Max is always dropping wifi in my bedroom and basement where my X had no problem. Also with the Max when i come out of no signal areas like the subwayit takes forever to reconnect. I always have to toggle airplane mode to get the signal back and I didnt have to do that with my Intel X. I might look on ebay and swappa and see what XS Max's are going for if I can get a good price (mine is still in mint condition and fully unlocked) I will sell it and pick up a X, pocket the difference and wait to the 2020 iphone line up.

As of now I think I’m going to hold off on the iPhone 11. I was able to do a low cost update to a slightly used XS that also has AppleCare coverage until Nov 2020 so decided to do that for now.

This is based on virtually all the leaks pointing to a very minor update with the 11 and the really exciting update coming in 2020. That 5.4 inch iPhone looks sweet. I also bounce back and forth b/w Apple and Android and would want to see what the Galaxy S11 does next year too.

What’s considered a ‘very minor update’? The way I see it, the triple lens camera has the potential to be a ‘game changer’, we know it’s coming, it’s just a matter of what this new feature can offer changing the possibilities of the camera once again.

Yeah, I found a XS Max for $850 which was totally fine for me. I'll likely hold off until 2020

I don’t take many photos so for me personally that is not something to get me to upgrade. That being said with Apple keeping the same design for a 3rd year going all in on the camera’s is the smart thing to do since that is a deciding factor for a lot of people.

Oh and even though I’m hesitant that does not mean I do not think it’ll sell well. The iPhone 7 was a similar situation and was one of Apple’s best selling phones. I’m fairly certain the same thing will happen with the iPhone 11.

Damn, that 5.4" iPhone looks amazing! I really wish I could wait another year, but my iPhone 6 is overdue for an upgrade. I still don't quite get why Apple is on a three year design schedule nowadays (6 / 6s / 7 shared a similar design, as do the X, XS and XI), that seems rather long for a phone.

This is the new normal. I think we all need to get used to it.

Used to be two years, now it's three.
