Not upgrading this year, although I was fully planning to but the costs versus profits are completely out of balance. So little has changed or improved.
Max is too big for me, I love the 5’8 and if they announce the new iPad Pro next month I’ll be getting that one for things that require a larger screen.

I think im deciding to keep my X.. I've also owned every phone since 3G (except 7+). I keep trying to convince myself to buy the MAX for the screen size and battery.. but honestly yesterday was the most disappointing event yet. I feel like the screen size is the only thing I would gain over the X and that isn't worth it :( I hope this means they are saving more features for next year.

Will be preordering the Series 4 watch though because it looks great imo.
Ya. Can’t wait to see your post on which sMAX you preordered.

Agreed. Even though I have a first gen iPad Pro, which still performs great, the edge to edge screen in the conceptual renderings of the upcoming iPad looks too good to pass up, if that rumor is accurate.

Are you me? I also got an iPhone annually since purchasing the 3g. Currently have the X and can't find any reason to buy the XS. It's missing that one key feature that pushes one to upgrade. The Max is nice but I've never had a big phone and not really sure I want one.

I think it just comes down to the fact the iPhone X is a great device even 11 months in. There's a reason why Apple discontinued it instead of keeping around smaller configs - it would cannibalize the XS. Incremental upgrade isn't worth the $1150.

It feels weird not staying up late to pre-order a new phone after doing it almost 10 years but I guess that time has come.

Another “me” here. Same exact situation: first iPhone was 3G, upgraded every year since then, but just made final decision with my wife not to this year after considering the merits of the improvements vs the cost. And we’re on the AT&T Next Every Year plan, which makes it easy to say yes to the upgrade each year. But that’s not a good reason to do so again. Not upgrading means we will get to keep our phones after paying them off in one more year, then we can sell them for probably the same amount as next year’s payments, or give to a family member. A pretty big advantage.

Though I’m still staying up tonight to do the pre-order... of two Apple Watch Series 4 to replace our Series 2. Now that upgrade is a nice leap forward. Some big design improvements there. It won’t be cheap since we both prefer Stainless, but at least we will be saving on the phones. I also may want the new iPad Pro if it releases in a few months and lives up to the rumors.

I am quite the reverse of you guys lol. Usually I upgrade every two years. I had a 6+ then last year I upgraded to the X. I thought I could live with the size, but it just feels so small in my hands. It bothers me so much still that I have to upgrade to the max. I just can't tolerate a regular size phone anymore :( It is honestly the only reason I want the XsM: the size.

Keeping my X can't justify paying for the Max and I would get the 512 capacity though. Plus I've never has any issues with my X so I order the watch though. Congrats to all who will be upgrading though. :)

I have upgraded every year since the original iPhone in 2007, however, this will be the first time I will not upgrade. I have an iPhone X and I feel the Xs is not worth another $1,250 for what it is offering. I mean this is by far the worst "S cycle" update ever. Also, I do not have any interest in the Xs Max as I feel the X/Xs is the perfect size, though I do still occasionally use my iPhone 7 Plus.

So usually I would be all excited for pre-order night, but I just cannot justify upgrading this year!

I think Apple is going to be disappointed in the pre-order numbers this year.

I think next year will be one of the biggest iPhone updates ever with 2nd Gen. FaceID, A13 chip, way better updated camera specs, and possibly no notch (though it really does not bother me!) etc...

:apple:

I upgraded because it’s just an extra $4 a month for the Max. I agree though, next year will be even better. I’ll likely do it again. The yearly plan makes it too easy as long as you are okay paying monthly for the foreseeable future.

I downsized for the X, always assumed I’d jump on a plus sized X at the first opportunity. But no, discovered I’m happy with the smaller size surprisingly.

X to Xs really isn’t tempting at all, but that’s not really a dig at Apple. Year on year improvements in phones have been minimal for years across the board.

I upgrade every year. Not because I feel the need to, only because if the tech is compelling enough. The 6.5 display alone was a selling point long before Apple even announced these iPhones. In today’s day and age in smart phones, large displays have been dominant for quite some time.

I upgraded as I didn’t owe much on my new every year iPhone X and the monthly payment was 10 more a month. Also I need a bigger screen as the X seems really small in my crazy YUGE hands :) Well see if Verizon delivers on 9/21! Order was at 103am fingers crossed lol

XS max way too big for business phone, My X goes to my wife and I get the XS.
The iPhone 8 gets sold. Everyone very happy :)

Ordered the XS Max due to screen size, its the only thing I missed about the plus sized phones. The 5.8 inch screen is on the smallish side for me but I held it out for a year lol. So the iPX will be traded in.

How are you guys who decided to not pre-order hanging in there today? haha

I was a bit anxious not staying up til midnight like I do once per year for the first time in a decade. I'm holding strong though! Not upgrading this year.

I am still doing good as well!

Simply just not worth the money this year, this coming from someone who has upgraded every year since the original iPhone in 2007!

Yes I am. I was never going to keep the X for more than a year. I'll use the Max for a year, see how I like it, and then commit to an iPhone in fall of 2019.

Not for me sticking with the X

I honestly think the only reason to upgrade from the X is to the XS Max purely for screen size
When I did a comparison last night between the X/XS/XS Max wasnt enough for me personally to justify upgrading this year for the first time in a long time

I have two 256gb iPhone X that are going to be replaced by two 512gb iPhone xs max

One week to go

I don’t plan to upgrade but the gold is really tempting for me. If I do upgrade, it’ll be in December because I’m not making extra payments just to upgrade early. I’m actually more interested in the watch but I can’t decide which finish I want.

I thought about it but now I think I'm going to keep my X and wait and see what comes out next year. I know I don't want a Max so I'm not going to fool myself. I really think this year will be the watch.

You folks do realize you will be carrying a brick in your pocket compared to the X?

Good luck, only went to to Plus iPhone model once. Returned within 14 days, never bothered again.

I was more torn this year than ever before, it didn't help that Apple's event (to me) was very understated and quite underwhelming from what I'd hoped.

My upgrade path has been 5S -> 6 Plus -> 6S Plus -> 7 Plus -> X

I liked the smaller device, got used to the notch, loved the camera upgrades etc so really had to think long and hard about whether I wanted to upgrade or not.

It was also going to be XS Max, or nothing. But after the Apple Event it made me wonder if the extra screen real estate was worth the expense, and they didn't really bang on much about the cameras, per se. Making me wonder if the cameras are gonna be THAT much better.

The apertures still being the same makes me skeptical about low light shots but hopefully the new Image Processor with the better HDR will make it worth while.

Fingers crossed!

Most people upgrading to the Max previously had Plus models and took a year off to go back to the smaller X and want the size back now. They know what they are in for.

Holding strong.... Just nothing compelling enough for my use cases to upgrade. I used to have a Plus size phone, and enjoyed going to the X, so I have no desire for the Max.

Yes, I got the 512gb Max but I’m not happy about it. Paying $1570 for a phone is like getting herpes from taking home a fat chick from the bar! Lol

Well I guess it is different. The bezels on the Plus was a big no go for me.
