I don't even remotely miss it. I did think with Apple Pay on the phone was better when you could hold your phone near the NFC terminal with your thumb resting on the touch ID sensor to pay in one motion, but I don't pay with my phone anymore now that I have an Apple Watch.

+1

Apple Pay on the iPhone now is a bit awkward

Touch ID had its advantages and my thought is that Apple should have included an under screen fingerprint scanner as well as Face ID
There are times when a finger scan is more convenient like when your iPhone is laying on your desk etc
Will Apple change it to both? This year is going to be a year of decisions for Apple as the iPhones are losing steam

Touch ID under the display was allegedly Causing problems for Samsung, with problems like inaccuracy rates with fingerprint scans, irregular battery power draw, screen protectors were also being a hindrance, etc. We don’t know that a fingerprint reader under the Display would have been the best solution even as an alternative, given the manufacturing concerns.

For those complaining/having questions I have to ask how much time you’ve given it? I’ve found that FaceID worked even better after I gave it time to “learn” me.

It’s not flawless if you have attention awareness on but it will still work most of the time and then it’s all a question of security vs convenience. You could opt to turn off attention awareness and then find yourself having a much more consistent experience, but then you’d also lose that extra layer of security.

I find FaceID to be one of the best things to happen to the iPhone to the point that fingerprint sensors already feel archaic to me. It’s still in its infancy and already works extremely well. It can only get better.

Of course, some won’t be happy with the transition just as some weren’t happy with TouchID but the technology is only a year old. Give it time to mature. I find it especially handy for app logins and the like. I only need to be looking at my device and I’m already doing that so the whole process feels automatic.

After three weeks of owning the XR my dad already forgot how to use a fingerprint sensor. He wanted to install an app on the SE for my mother and stared at the AppStore not knowing what to do after pushing the GET button.

Got the X on launch date and now have the Max so been using FID for over a year. I’m not as over the top in love with FID as I was when it was new to me.

I find myself having to manually enter my password way more than Touch ID. I would not trade back though, love the full screen and the swipe up home button. Unlocking is not as smooth though.

I prefer Face ID. I thought I wouldnt. I (unfortunately) need two phones daily so I use both technologies daily still and face id is far superior.

I dont use Apple pay though. I imagine that being weird with face id

Then turn off attention awareness if you’re having so many issues. Remember TouchID is much younger. Let it age like fingerprint sensors then see how it behaves.

I thought it would take me awhile to get used to it. Took half a day... maybe.

I was actually concerned about that when I got my iPhone X since I had been using touch ID for unlocking and a home button to exit apps for so long by that point. Like you said it was less than half a day to forget all of that.

Well as a XS Max user, YES I am missing the touch ID! There are many times the Face ID works...but some days I pick it up and nothing! I miss it if the phone is off in my car (not that I surf the web while driving, I may just want to unlock it and launch Maps, Waze) - I would just simply press my finger and its unlocked.

At times rather than messing with staring at this screen wasting time, I'll plug in the 6pin code (smh) BUT Thurs - with the snow around here. I had a winter hat on, also a hoodie. Nope, face ID did not work at all with this - guess part of my forehead, cheeks were covered..who knows.

Anyway, I GUESS I have to create a new Face ID look, I'll put my winter hat on, hoodie up and add a new ID login?? No idea if the phone will read or register it...I'll give it a shot.:)

I think faceid overal is excellent and I don’t miss fingerprint sensors at all. In fact due to poor quality skin on my hands, I have always had issues with fingerprint sensors and have never found them to be that reliable. Faceid on the other hand has been almost 100% for me, only failing if the phone is too close. I’m really impressed by the range of angles and distances it works at and in fact if anything I would say it is too good sometimes and unlocks when I don’t want it too!

Face ID has worked consistently for me on the X, XS Max and now on the new iPad Pro too. Apple Pay now works 100% of the time now rather than the hit or miss implementation with Touch ID.. oops I’m at the home screen again, sigh.

I don’t know of anyone who has had any issues with Touch ID either, how hard it it to look at your phone when swiping up the display anyway? I think that people who say it fails most of the time or even 1 in 3 times they unlock are either talking rubbish or just not looking at the phone, who knows. The fact that my phones can be unlocked whilst connected to a magnetic dash mount on the center console of my car proves that this tech is damn robust.

If it fails with your sunglasses and you need to wear often them because of your condition then turn off ‘require attention for face id’ in settings.

Doesn't help. I don't complain about a feature not working without putting in effort on my side to get it to. I have four sets of sunglasses. 99% of the time it works with my GIGANTIC ones that wrap around my entire eyes and half my face to help block out the sun. But my pool/lake (cheap plastic), exercise ones (oakley) and my normal 'aviator' ones it rarely works.

For me it's an unreliable feature on a new phone, coming from older phones that had a reliable touch id feature. It's a step backwards in my usage of the iPhone.

My kids have the 8 and I unlock it with one print, 100% unlock rate for me checking their phone in the past 6 months.

Touch ID was the most aggrivating piece of crap I had ever used. It caused me to shatter two screens in anger! Unstable system, especially for those that work in a shop and have torn up hands!

Not sure how you can blame touch ID that’s been completely successful for *millions* of iPhones produced that included if and just because your hands are weathered because you work in a shop? Not sure how that’s Apple‘s fault, when is been the most reliable form of biometric security for years.

The phone is in landscape alot, and I have to turn my head to get the phone to unlock since inexplicably, landscape faceID is not supported.

Also, sometimes you just want to check messages without picking up the phone. In the past, I just rest my thumb and it unlocks. It is way less natural to have to adjust your face to the camera in order to unlock the phone now.

I for one think that having both is the best, but if I had to pick only one, it would be touch id for sure.

Seeing other phones with fingerprint readers makes me want them now, although they put them on the back of the phone, which is totally not ergonomic as well.

I have had my XR for about 2 weeks and I feel like it is going backwards to use touch ID on my work 6S. But I still wish it were available for optional 2-factor security on banking and other sensitive apps.

Do I miss it .....No
But I wouldn’t mind having both Touch ID Underscreen as web as Face ID for convenience purposes

Lol that is hilarious!
