I do not miss mine. It took a couple days to get used to Face ID. Its been working well for me, no complaints.

Never! The only annoying thing of FaceID is having to do the swipe up. Had to unlock and already be on the home screen. But other than that, FaceID is perfect. Sometimes I do not think I have any security, like the old devices. Gesture navigation is perfect.

That would make a Smart Keyboard practically unusable, so it seems very unlikely.

I thought it would be highly unlikely that Apple would remove the headphone jack and add a notch yet here we are.

And it would only make the keyboard unusable when you unlock it.

No, and I find that Face ID is far more reliable. Touch ID failed on me many times a day whereas I honestly don't remember the last time FaceID inexplicably failed to open. If the phone is pointed in my face's general direction, it will unlock flawlessly. I'm seeing some people here having issues where it isn't as smooth for them... maybe my face is just super duper identifiable? Lol.

I miss Touch ID in the sense that it worked far more often for me versus Face ID. I prefer the concept of Face ID, but in my personal usage it fails more often daily versus Touch ID.

Also it's a PITA to unlock off a flat surface in my experiences with Face ID.

Hi everyone - just as the question says, (particularly iPhone 6s and 7 users since there was faster Touch ID)

Do you miss Touch ID? This is the main thing holding me back from upgrading my 7.

I use Touch ID all the time for things like coffees and apps for banking and also using the London Underground.

I’m travelling to Canada this Christmas so the phone will be a BIT cheaper than the UK, just wondering if I’ll miss my 7?

Thoughts?

Is Face ID cumbersome compared to Touch ID?
I came from a 6s+ and I was worried I might not like Face ID. But it’s been awesome. It works a lot more for me than I’ve heard from others. I don’t miss Touch ID and wouldn’t go back to it either.

Overall - yes

I wish the device has touch ID under the screen

I do not like touch ID on the back of the device either. Personal preference.

Face id is also slow at times and not perfect for all scenarios notably lying on a table or lying down sideways in bed

Imagine how awesome touch ID would be on this phone under the display with the single tap to wake feature?

Agree, and this would be a huge marketing and user problem on the Pro line iPads.

I don't think you'll see FaceID on iPads until there's a Gen2 (or possibly even later) that can do both portrait and landscape ID. That could easily be 2019 or later.

FaceID has been pretty terrible for our clients. Most are migrating back to an 8/8plus.

Partially because how much you disparaged against Face ID in the iPhone forum since its launch, I am inclined to believe even if your ‘clients’ were to say positive things about their experience with Face ID, you would likely still portray Face ID negatively in some form or another. But that’s Not to say Face ID is perfect, because it’s not. But its not “Terrible” either.

Overall I really like the X and would hate to go back to the smaller screen of the 8.

But I would upgrade to an X with underscreen touchID without hesitation.

Face ID works well generally but there are numerous times most days where it either fails due to bright/direct sunlight or I find I have to lift it when I otherwise wouldn't (flat on my desk, etc).

How are people who use an iPhone X in their vehicles dealing with FaceID? Have you repositioned the phone so it can scan your face? Do you enter the passcode? Other solutions?

That is very interesting NONE of you miss it. So when you pay for coffee for example, you have to look at your phone right? That takes less time than Touch ID?

I'm looking at it anyway cuz I have a credit card and my debit card set up -- and I make a selection first. Touch ID would certainly still be equally as convenient in my case.

And sorry for the 6 month quote... whoops. Too late now.

I drive a lot for work so I just turn it off for unlock, if not working/weekends or travelling ie plane I turn it on. I tried a iottie wireless holder but would fall off my dash in the heat over summer, I use the Brodit and have done for years and is not positioned for fid without leaning over.
Easiest way, and before the political correct brigade jump on board where I live it’s allowed to touch your phone in a mounted holder, I just use for music/radio, calls can be done by in built display. Jeep Cherokee.

I understand the context of your post, but you shouldn’t be using Face ID or using your phone at all while driving, unless your parked. Period.

So you don’t have a satnav/phone factory fitted display in your car, you have a drink or eat a apple while driving? Read my post above.

Being parked is illegal here unless in a holder. The worst I see are women under 30.

It was a nightmare in the beginning, now I’ve gotten used to Face ID and more patient with it, its not so bad. What I do miss most about my 7 plus at this point is the wider screen. But that will be solved once the iphone X Plus is released later this year. I cant wait.

I do...TouchID is still superior to me.

It doesn’t matter what angle, how close, what pair of glasses...TouchID works. Can’t say the same for FaceID.

With TouchID it worked on the first or second touch and I was in.

With Face ID it works with the first swipe 90% of the time. If it doesn't the second swipe is far less likely to work and very soon I am locked out and have to go back to my code. Overall TouchID was more reliable for my use.

I agree with your points and it’s fair. I think Face ID will be more telling to see how it reacts with the second generation iPhone X in 2018, what improvements Apple made to the software and hardware. I think it’s an improving process, because it is new technology, but I do see this improving over the course of time.

For those of you who do miss TouchID, seems android P is about to limit your options further on future android devices as they too prepare to embrace the removal of home button.

https://www.engadget.com/2018/04/14/android-p-might-include-iphone-x-style-gestures/

Strange how Apple’s disliked and unpopular moves like removed audio jack, edge to edge with notch, and removed home button with UI gestures are all being slowly embraced by manufacturers of android despite some customer reactions.

Change is tougher for some more than others , even if it’s progress.

Remember how some people objected the automobile when it was first shown, preferring the horse and buggy in the beginning ? They thought anyone riding a car was crazy. Thank goodness innovation continued. That’s what should be the take away from this thread.

Yes I do. Very much.

I love the idea of FID. It's just that right now, it's a buggy mess. Sometimes it will unlock but not after the lock animation stays on my screen for a second or two. Sometimes it simply won't unlock. Sometimes I have to tilt my phone closer to me to unlock. It's simply not as consistent or smooth, for me, as TID ever was.

Yes, I will fully embrace a superior FID versus what we have now. Problem is in its current form I find it wildly frustrating, and TID is not that and never was.
