Faceid is great in a controlled environment meaning inside. A double tap on the screen is often faster than touchid or as fast but feels more natural.

That said, when I try to use it outside in daylight it fails 50% of the time. Touchid doesn’t fail on me except when I have wet fingers.

I like Face ID and it works very well for me. I don't miss Touch ID, but that worked well also and if I had to go back to it, I would be okay with that.

I had the 6s for two years and really like that Apple improved Touch ID (the 5s Touch ID was so very unreliable for me). I’ve been using the X for about a week and I think it is faster and easier than Touch ID. It has been reliable for me. Sure there are times when it fails, but all I do is type the passcode so that Face ID learns by adding new face data. I bought an iPad Pro two weeks ago and I wish it had Face ID. There are rumors that 2018 iPad Pros will gain Face ID and ditch the home button. If the rumor is true, then I will definitely upgrade then.

I don't miss it one bit. Unlike some of the people with spotty Face ID performance, mine has never missed one time when I am looking at it. Apple Pay is way easier. I couldn't go back to a home button if Apple said the next new iphone was returning to touch ID, I would just keep this one until they made a new phone with Face ID. I don't miss one thing about Touch ID.

Not a chance, especially when using Apple Pay. With Touch ID you cant just “double click” the home button and put your phone near the reader. It has to be locked first or you’re switching into multi-tasking.

With Face ID it doesn’t matter if the phone is on the home screen or not, I can always “double tap” the side button and the cards are available. The iPhone X doesn’t have to be unlocked for the Apple Pay prompt. It works either way.

I have never had Face ID fail in the sunlight, nor when I am looking at my phone. It has been essentially flawless.

It's amazing to think that the machine learning process with the iPhone X continually adapts and learns to your face the more you use Face ID with re-entry of your passcode. But undoubtedly the iPad will receive Face ID and gesture controls when they update it next based on recent rumors.

Not in the least, Face ID very convenient, and far less cumbersome for someone with mild arthritis in their hands. Who worries if it is a little slower or faster? I find it faster, better than missing the mark with your finger.

A comparison in speed was done and while both FaceID and TouchID were both under 2 seconds, FaceID is still slower with the need to click the side button. That said, with numbers like these the difference is negligible so it seems like it's just a matter of preference.

With Face ID on the iPhone X, it took 1.2 seconds from pressing the side button to the iPhone X’s screen turning on and for the phone to recognize me and unlock the device. And it was another 0.4 seconds to swipe up to get to the lock screen. Total time: 1.8 seconds.

On my iPhone 7 Plus, I could get to the home screen just by pressing and holding my thumb on the Touch ID sensor in an average of 0.91 seconds.

Wow that is pretty cool. So it appears no one misses the finger print! And all of your banking apps use Face ID such as say PayPal?

Face ID is absolutely amazing when it comes to unlocking Apps (that are updated for it), and filling in stored passwords. You don't have to do a thing, just use your phone like you normally would and face ID activates and recognizes that you're the one using it and unlocks app/fills in password.

I honestly don't use apple pay much so I can't comment on the double clicking the power button. I'm still getting used to that for app purchases tbh, but that's probably because I don't use it enough for it to have become second nature.

Of course not. Face ID is a huge leap forward over Touch ID in user experience. It just disappears and lets you use your phone without frequent deliberate action.

To be honest Face ID is much faster inconvenient then Touch ID. Not missing touch ID at all.
This. I thought I was going to hate Face ID after reading people complaining about it. However, I haven't missed it at all, and it's been so seamless.

I think Face ID and Touch ID each have their pluses and minuses. Touch ID was better logging into phones and not having to pay attention. I also though it was better for Apple Pay. Face ID is better for logging into apps. Also it allows you to hide notifications so each are good and bad in there own ways.

I was on a fence with buying new iPhone as I live now in north and wear winter cap/gloves etc. + it’s more wet too in here. I was not sure how Face ID will behave. I had problems with Touch ID (wet hands and gloves) now it is fixed.

I’m glad to report that Face ID is doing really nice job - it just works for me. I wear beard, own +10 different glasses (correction and sunglasses), wear winter cap, hood - every time Face ID just works...

I learned to ignore “wisdom” of youtubers trying to go viral on virtually anything and just trust apple. After Unbox therapy exploded discovering “bend gate” - every I-want-to-be-YouTube-millionaire is looking for big break. This leads to exaggeration.

Yet again I was not disappointed.

Happy, happy camper

Nope, not at all. I thought I would and even though the actual processing time is longer to authenticate, the phone unlocks faster since the overall user interaction in cleaner. Using it in apps that require authorization like banking apps or 1password are much better. Overall the accuracy is much higher for me. I work in a warehouse and my hands are often dirty, sweaty, or gloved. With Touch ID, there would be many times the authorization would fail on first try and I would wipe my hand off on my pants then try again.

No, but I do miss Face ID on my iPad Pro.
Touch ID feels really backwards now and same about the app switching using home swipes.

Hi everyone - just as the question says, (particularly iPhone 6s and 7 users since there was faster Touch ID)

Do you miss Touch ID? This is the main thing holding me back from upgrading my 7.

I use Touch ID all the time for things like coffees and apps for banking and also using the London Underground.

I’m travelling to Canada this Christmas so the phone will be a BIT cheaper than the UK, just wondering if I’ll miss my 7?

Thoughts?

Is Face ID cumbersome compared to Touch ID?

All of one day in, yes, I do miss Touch ID. With Touch ID, I could unlock with a press - no preliminary tap followed by trying to get the camera pointed at my face and no need for a secondary swipe up. It also seemed faster.

The other interface issue for me is access to the control panel. I use that a lot, and swiping up from the bottom was an easy one-handed gesture. Control panel on the X is either a two-hand job or a two-gesture job (invoke reachability > down swipe upper RH corner).

Minor annoyance: you have to invoke control panel to see the actual battery percentage.

i don't miss it a single bit. it feels so weird when i pick up my iphone 6 and unlock it. seems so complicated and slow compared to face id
