Pics won’t give you the full effect. You’ll have to see them side by side. Overall the S8+ screen is still more drool worthy IMHO.

It’s sharper to my eyes and the colors are just more vibrant with more wow factor.

With both the iPhone X and S8 in hand, I agree.

And when you factor in the design, I much prefer Samsung’s symmetrical bezels and sleek edges than Apple’s notch.

Still a very nice OLED panel from Apple. The best iPhone screen to date, easily.

I would expect Samsung to be the best screen, seeing as they have the most experience of most major OEMs AND they oversaturate the displays to make them look more appealing.

I wouldn’t even consider Samsung displays over saturated. They just look great. The whole idea of “natural looking” is completely overrated and not a feature as far as I am concerned.

Right. Perception is everything.

In music, the third of a chord sounds more appealing to the human ear if it's 20-30 cents flat.

My feelings exact. And I believe most people’s, too. In my experience, the average friend or coworker loves seeing my S8 photos more than their iPhone photos.

I love the pop of the S8 display.

Seriously the difference between the 2 would be negligible, just enjoy whatever device you own. They both have fantastic panels.

This X display is so much more enjoyable than the previous iPhone screen experiences. Just such a shame about that notch; there’s no choice but to get used to it.

They’re both nice screens. The X screen is definitely an upgrade over the previous iPhones. I think most people will be impressed that Apple finally step up the screen. As for the notch, it’s one of those things you forget about after a while. Months from now, it won’t be a big deal for tonnns of people.

Where in my case it is. I only like the S8 and Note 8 when in modes that don't oversaturate.

I enjoy it for gaming and surfing well enough, but not for looking at photos and videos. Personal preference, but it is awesome that this is an adjustable setting on Samsung Phones.

What does your display have to do with the photos coming out of your phone? Or are you simply meaning when people view a gallery of photos on your Samsung screen, as compared to the iPhone screen?

If you mean the later, I can understand, since the saturation and blacks will be better than the LCD panels on iPhones.

Samsung wins easily, but that's because they offer the best display tech. But that doesn't mean the iPhone X is a slouch. The Pixel 2 also has a nice display too. Resolution isn't everything, but just being able to have a screen you're comfortable with is important. Like the G6 has a good display, but I cannot say it is my ideal display because the brightness isn't as high as OLED phones.

I just looked at iPhone X and thought the screen looked great. Pixel density looks the same. I couldn't tell any difference. Colors looked great. It was slightly more saturated than my S8 on basic mode, which seems perfect to me. I could tell it was an AMOLED screen, though. It had that bluish tint to it when compared to the LCD iPhone with True Tone off. True Tone turned on seemed to fix that, though. Color shifting at angles seemed about the same as my S8.

After using the iPhone X I miss Control Center on my S8 now. It's so nice on iOS 11.

For the price difference now if would not boil down to which has the better display as far as I am concerned.

That is true. Right now the S8 can be found new for half the cost of the iPhone X. That's actually what kept me from trying the iPhone X this year. I returned my Pixel last week and could have put in an order for the X, but I couldn't justify the X at twice the cost and went back to S8 instead.

Control Center is greatly missed on my Pixel 2, however, I do like having the fingerprint sensor enabled so I can swipe down to access notifications and controls. Though, I wish I could flip it to bring controls first, then notifications. Maybe in 8.2 .

The S8 is still one of the best flagship values. Certainly better than the X.

Displaymate releases their results on the iPhone X's display Monday. So you wont have to wait that much longer.

Yeah, the price of the X has me concerned that the next gen of iPhones will price me out permanently.

I think as the technology becomes less novel (for the iPhone) the prices will come back down to a more reasonable and reachable point of entry. There are already rumors that the next gen will retain the same front camera sensors (that notch is here to stay!) and I believe back camera sensors as well. Plus we know they’ll keep the same screen technology also.

Apple can’t expect to continue charging $999 as their point of entry. This year was just cause the tech is new to them and hard to supply.

But who knows! I could be wrong. $1250 after taxes is pretty absurd, if you’re asking me.

Until their is a your and competition in AMOLD, it is an expensive feature.

They're both Samsung displays but the S8 is better since it isn't missing a chunk of the screen. People return phones for a few bad pixels. The iPhone X has the equivalent of a huge cluster of bad pixels. Furthermore, the missing chunk is distracting for things like watching videos and while you can resize the video so the edges are even but you lose about an inch diagonally so it's really only a ~4.8" display. For $1000+ I'd expect a 6"+ display.

You have to also consider the fact that if this was any other OEM, the notch would have been simply unacceptable, especially when you factor in the price point of entry.

But this is Apple, so a design decision as flagrant as this, as asymmetrical, invasive, and distracting as this is not only acceptable but now iconic.

No other company gets away with this. Just like no other company gets away with rehashing a near four year old design, such as the iPhone 8.
