What ever happened to “going to the Apple store and trying out the phone”?

I refuse to watch these reviews. I can spend my time reading a review with actual data.

Year over year iPhone upgrades have always felt relatively incremental. But as soon as you start making 2 or 3 year jumps then they feel quite significant. Really can't expect anything different.
That's the smart way to do it, not only for yourself, but for everyone, as it may make Apple consider lowering their prices.

Yet you didn't point out the parts your thought were biased. "Biased" means more than "disagrees with me," for the record.

I did.

He predicated his review, by stating he would never forgive Apple for stealing his sons name.
WTH.

Thought he was suppose to review a phone not whine about his life.

After last years feeble attempt to make Face ID fail....well, more of the same

He looks visually upset btw.

ive never liked his reviews. his take on the Apple Watch when it launched was horrible. From what I remember he just thought it was a glorified notification device. Of course he didnt understand what the watch is meant for. Fitness. It was better seeing reviews from people that actually understood the main purpose for the watch IMO.

You’re not factoring that not everybody has an Apple store within reach, and even some countries don’t have/or have very few Apple stores at all. So the Internet is a way for them to use YouTube reviews for those hands on reviews, because they don’t have the opportunity to see the latest iPhone in person.

When did week of embargo get started? I mean there wasnt youtube people reviewing these early back in the 3g days where? I dont remember much ten years ago with reviews right before the phone was released.
We just bought expecting to keep the phone from what we saw. We waiting in lines overnight to get a chance at that first. We can always return it if its not what we expect it to be.

Thanks. My closest Apple Store is one hour, and in a different country. I'm not going to drive over to just have a try.

You remember that?
That was hilarious , wasn’t it?
I posted a link in Reddit about it a few posts up.

A couple of posters in another thread summed it up succinctly.
Hope they don’t mind that I’m reposting it here.

Classic Verge. Always finding something strange to put under 'bad stuff' in their reviews.

I mean, "very good but not great camera"? For real??

View attachment 783411

Why are the Verge reviews given so much weight. I read it and thought it could have been one sentence: I am Nilay Patel and I prefer the Pixel camera. Someone else from the Verge tweeted out a couple photos saying it proved how much better the Pixel camera was yet most people that replied to it said the XS was better. I can’t take a review seriously that lists the iPhone camera as a “con”.

Any negative part. It's the usual from FFR. Once anything negative is said about iPhones they are automatically bias and getting paid off. It happens during every release.

It’s not like they favor the pixel or anything, or were forced to readjust a review because the product was defective.

What score did they originally give to the defective phone again, near perfect.
Yeah I thought so.

very objective reviews at the verge. /sarcasm

Anybody remember this?

‍♂️ Can’t believe some poster are claiming they are objective.

Clearly they are not.

I think a lot of people got on his case after that review and he hasn't been all that popular since.
That bullet point on the new phones is pretty ridiculous haha. he definitely seems to hate on apple stuff

LOL at this point in my life I've learned to take all reviews with a grain of salt. What I'm currently waiting on are screen tests (peak brightness, color accuracy, etc etc) and probably DxOMark.

I'm just super curious to know if the screen on both of these devices are almost identical since now supposedly Samsung made them both.

Well inflating the pixel 2 review score and being forced to lower it didn’t help much either.

Still can’t believe how some posters don’t question his objectivity, guess “they agree with him”.

If you're going to turn an obvious joke into bias, there's no hope for you.

You asked me to provide an example of bias, I have provided plenty.

Is he now backtracking and calling it a joke?

Here is clown that turned the verge into a joke.

Hope for what there is a whole thread about it.
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/the-verge-iphone-xs-review.2139104/

But you keep defending whatever it is your defending and such.
I think just about anyone would immediately recognize the hyperbole as a joke. Honestly, it's really hard to tell if you're serious or trolling when you say he biased because he said he'd never forgive Apple for using his son's name, because it shows such a lack of awareness on your part.

I'm not defending anything. I asked what he said was biased. If one of your examples is a joke about the name, I'm going to waste my time refreshing the UPS page instead of wasting it engaging with you.

The XR will be a hit, with the color gimmick, the "full screen" addition and the price. The fact it will be FASTER than the X is awesome too.

Could care less what you think.

but the verge isn’t a comedy club or a site people visit for humor, as it very well could be after his stewardship as editor and chief.

Did I miss the part where he was winking?

Regarding the video. You claim it was a joke.
I took him for face value and I’m not the only one.

The iPhone Xs review, the iPhone X review, the Apple Watch review show a history of bias.

The their position on the pixel 2 also bias.

But that’s what you are doing, and claiming otherwise.

Defend, defend, defend.

I agree you appear to be wasting your time.

I lose a lot of faith in the intelligence of my fellow man if any of you took the comment about his son seriously.

I mean, really ? o_O

So he is a clown that shouldn’t be taken seriously....

That’s kind of the point, isn’t it.

He made a lighthearted joke about the name of the phone being the same as his sons name. That has zero to do with the seriousness or validity of the review as a whole.

You’re way off base, calling somebody a clown because they made a small joke ?

I don’t even agree with some of the points made in the video, but that’s not the point.

I’ll go out on a limb and say the media aren’t the only ones.

:D My thoughts exactly !

The statement has predicated the review, now your saying it has no bearing on the review.
That’s bs.

I’m calling him a clown because he is acting like one, and as editor and chief of what they call an internet publication, I’m well within my right to call bias.

His Apple Watch review, the iPhone X review, and now this, all bias.

Not to mention the retraction by the verge on the pixel 2 score.

So which is it was he serious and should be taken seriously, or is he a clown and the Verges credibility, or lack there off, suffers from it

He can’t have his cake an eat it too.

So Which is it.

Any more comments?

To imply that his review was influenced by the fact that his child is called Max, and therefore he would criticise the iPhone as a result, is patently absurd.

I’m not sure what else needs to be said, your foolishness speaks for itself.
