SSD SuperClassic

Some nice ideas here. I'm a fan of the Classic too, and think it would be madness to just delete it. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see an SSD iPod SuperClassic at some point. Positioned as a top-of-the-range prestige product like the 27" iMac (without the yellowing...), it would really bring the best of the Classic design and the latest technology together. Glass screen, slick aluminium finish, massive storage, wi-fi and maybe video camera too?

Funnily enough, I bought a Classic late last year. Then earlier this year, I received an email from Apple asking me what I think of it, how I use it, etc. All the questions were clearly geared toward future product development, rather than the generic questions you usually see.

And Apple, if you do develop the Classic (and I hope you do), then how about throwing in a decent quality case like you used to with the iPods?

Speaking of cases, Instaxgirl, I had a nightmare finding a cool case for my iPod Classic too. But they're out there. If you want to spend a little more for something ultra-cool, take a look at Shinnorie, Noreve or AB Sutton

I wouldn't mind it moving to flash. What I like about the Classic is its simplicity. It's a big chunk of storage, a medium sized display, lots of battery life and no-fuss controls. It's the only iPod I take with me whenever I won't be at my computer for at least a couple of days.

I really hope they continue the series.

Yeah~! Apple should Keep our favorite&vintage Ipod: The Classic!
And why not improve it with technology?

Better finishing, Lighter, Better Battery, Better Storage (flash is welcome - as the hardisk in my 2 years old IpodClassic starts showing tiredness - it sometimes hangs for a second during play times!)

One thing i'd really like to see though is a better user interface: the actual one is very LIMITED: in particular: in the editing/control the user has: I WANT to be able to EDIT and DELETE from my IpodClassic!

World jogging record

Anyone every go jogging with a Classic?

Interested in a new iPod, my old 40GB 3G is 5 years old and really doesn't like pounding the pavement.

And, yes I know a Nano is shock proof, but its capacity is far too small for me.

A 16GB Nano (4,000 songs) isn't enough - how far do you jog?

can we PLEASE stop speaking about jogging ? and about the nano ?
This Thread is about the Classic & Its obviously not an item made for Jogging!

Who/Why would you do sport and run with a hardisk and 160 giga in your pocket?
I would guess a cheap shuffle would do the job then....

I don't think so, because the iPod touch when it is refreshed this September will likely cost US$399 for the 128 GB version--still too expensive for many users. And many users don't want all those features of the iPod touch--they just want a media player with a lot of built in storage.

thank you! i would love to see a 250GB and 500GB iPod Classic... and before anyone says, nobody has 500GB worth of music... i'm over 250GB and would like to put Movies and TV Shows and what not, on it :)

At last

It's nice to know I am not alone out here. I have been quietly waiting for the classic to get bumped up to 240. When it stalled awhile back I had my old 5.5 modified and sent it to rapid repair for a 240b drive. Even with that I can not keep all my music on my iPod. Since I travel so much I like to have everything with me. I realize that we are small in numbers but it really would be sad to see Apple do away with the only large storage music device they make. I think it odd that as soon as they bumped the quality of the iTunes downloads to twice their size they stopped upgrading the classic HD. Is it time to write Steve Jobs. I keep thinking it is.

You mean these. ;)

nah, i have those :p i mean those random things i can't remember what material they were, but they were black, and said iPod on the top and actually came with every iPod Classic for free... this was years ago though, when Apple were actually nice... lol ;)

I've got a 30GB Classic... I've always been jogging with it. I usually just hold it in my hand, I wouldn't want it on my arm... if there's even an armband for them. I also did drop it a few times (3, I believe) without having any repercussion. However, I had a case... and it cracked up on the bottom. Still not bad considering I dropped it on the asphalt.

I think this is the case. I still have one from my 15GB Classic.

Nope that isn't it, basically what i got was a random black, suede (i think) sleeve, which had a little tag at the top that said iPod on it lol... got it with my 20GB 3rd Gen iPod about 5 years ago lol

Sounds nice. Would look good on an aluminium iPod Classic with a 256gb SSD and a glass screen (HINT Apple...)

Meet the NEW iPod line this September

In 2010 event Apple is going to kill the Nano and the Classic, Once the iPod touch gets FM, a camera, and gets bumped up to 16gb as the basic model there will br no point to the nano, the iPod touch won't get the 128gb flash update but apple will kill the classic anyway.
If you haven't noticed Apple is more focused on the iPhone and iPod touches that any of their other products including the macs. After this Sept event all that will be left is the iPhone, iPod touch, and shuffle. Meet the new iPod family.

Not all of us are rich.

A 16GB Nano (4,000 songs) isn't enough - how far do you jog?

My 3G 40GB iPod is over 4years old and i want a single iPod to last me another 5 years.

And in reply to previous posts, either a 64GB Nano or a 128GB SSD Classic would be perfect for me.

Would love to just plump for a huge capacity Classic, but i don't think John Lewis's would be happy if i returned a new one if it kept skipping while running.

HUGE MEGA RANT

BLADE 3, same iPod as mine - hers keeps on trucking while slicling dicing vamps and boucing all over the place.:mad::mad:

I run for a few hundred yards and mine locks up for 2 minutes and needs a bloody reset!

Nah, they won't kill the nano. It's got to be their best selling iPod ever, the touch is creeping in, but I see nanos in the hands of teenagers every time I leave the house. And there's plenty of people who wouldn't want to exercise with a glass screen stuck to their arm, or wouldn't want to exercise with something with no physical controls.

And the reason they're focussing on the touch and iPhone so much is because the App store is a massive source of new revenue.

Apple wont ever get rid of the nano. (unless they make something to go in its place) Many people I know who own an iPod Touch also have a nano because they dont like taking their touch everywhere. The rest of the people have nanos.

Man....I promise I'm gonna try to stay CALM ...but WHY don't YOU guys TRY to not speak about the nano or the touch...This Thread IS About THE CLASSIC !

I mean, i'm fine with speaking of all ipods..but some of yu guys , just Forget abot the classic...and this is bad sign...i have a bad feeling on this...and just don't knowwhat i'll do if Apple really discontinue the Classic...
i'll have t change Brand...Go for an Archos or something...
Damn!

Ceramic iPod Classic

Now if they souped up the iPod Classic with all the tech mentioned earlier, AND used the shiny new ceramic material used on the back of the new iPhone, then that'd sell. I'd buy one.

Hey Steve, want some $$$$?

Not going to happen. iTouch is no use for exercise. It's horrible. Storage still sucks. I'm never using iPhone for music because phone calls will interrupt my focus with motivational music playing. No thanks and don't speculate in confidence like that again. Thx gg no re thx noob.

Wait a sec'
i'm sure there is a mode on the iPhone to silent/skip calls and stay on your music?
