They're marketing the product wrong in my view. Do people really care about it being that thin when it was already pretty thin? I think that puts the focus on "look how much battery life we took away from you!", whereas what they should be marketing is how *light* it is, which is just a result of being thin.

Hopefully they don't start thinning iPhones and MacBooks again.

Apple’s obsession with thinness seems to be hilariously diametrically opposed to what people actually want.

Soon you’ll need the required iGauntlet to stop severing your fingers.
Nah, I want to see the next iPhone ad showing someone using the iPhone as a knife like those old Ginsu knife infomercials. 😄

Cuts through anything!

Reminds me of the old Lego Star Wars Death Star canteen video with Vader voiced by Eddie Izzard. Where he threatens to kill someone with a tray.

And as I'm sure others have mentioned, the new iPad Pro is also the lightest full sized iPad ever! (the iPad Pro is lighter than the iPad Air! Seriously Tim, get your product line naming 💩 in order).

Once again in this thread (and every iPad thread ad nauseam)

I don't think it's about thinness. It's about weight.

Apple wants the 13" iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard to weigh less than a 13" Macbook Air. Having a bigger battery would ruin that.

I'm a biochemist, so not an arty type either, but seeing destruction like that bothers me (even if it is only CGI).
I don’t think there’s much of any cgi involved. Seems to be practical and all filmed on an iPhone. Regardless, it’s interesting that some people like it, no accounting for taste I guess!

I suppose my response is just that it’s a fascinating world we live in, I can’t even begin to imagine liking that ad. But real people seem to! 🤷‍♀️

Does being that thin really help with anything?

Not at all

Honestly makes a case even more of a likely requirement to add some shape and thickness so it's easier and more comfortable to handle

Why anyone is applauding this is beyond me

Apple are apparently out of any actual good ideas

Thinner iPads with newer CPUs solves exactly zero problems iPads currently have

kinda wish for a device similar in size /shape/ design to seventh-generation iPod nano today with

watchOS10 / iOS17 or a hybrid of watchOS and iOS (although able to exist on it's own without iphone - and actually, this type of device, a sort of ipod nano that runs watchOS on a 3.5 inch widescreen for like $300 could help pave the way for future "regular" watchOS innovations, so that, it could serve as a testbed for things like independent apps and services running right from watchOS.
8gb ram
WiFi6 (or wifi5 if that's more realistic for the size)
128gb / 256gb storage
dual camera (or single camera if that's more realistic for the size
A17 processor (or A16 if that's more realistic for the size)
4000mah battery (or 3000mah if that's more realistic for the size)

what else

maybe essentially an iphone 16 mini. they could do an iphone 16 mini right and just make like 5000 (or 10,000) of them, sell out, and make 5000 (or 10,000) at a time. that way they wouldn't have to feel like their producing too many. just make them in small quantities until they sell out, then only make more once they've sold out. they could do mini's every three years. so the 16 mini would exist until the 19 mini comes out. would help to fill that niche of folks who want the mini without having to like, even advertise it or whatever. just sell it to the niche of people who want it.
