Is anybody else unhappy with Yosemite so far?

I've got a 2013 13" MBP 2.5 i5 with 8gigs of RAM and since installing Yosemite, I get the spinning wheel of boredom in every app multiple times. Safari is NOT Snappier and as whole, while I DO like the UI, not happy with the performance.

There has to be a massive memory leak somewhere, because memory clean is activating all the time. I've got it set for cleaning when I get down to 500 MBs of available RAM...

If I have more than 2 Apps open, the system bogs down... Right now I've ONLY got Safari open and only have 750 MBs available... What the hell?

Anyone else out there?

Hi,
I only upgraded 2 machines yesterday.
First impression: UGLY, faltering programs and, although I set UMASK 007
all new files get rw-r--r-- as mode.
Well, waiting for a score of updates I guess.

Been using it since PB1 and love it. Stable as all get out and I love the new look. All .0 releases will have some bugs as it hits the general public. Just a matter of statistics.
 
Ive has way too much power at Apple. I don't think Jobs would have let him touch OSX.
Why is this guy doing software? Judging by how hideous Yosemite is, he never should have been let anywhere near it.
Safari looks ridiculous, like a third grader designed it.
His obsession with thinness at the expense of functionality is so annoying I wish Apple would just get rid of him already.
 
Agreed!

Does anybody of you remember the OS look of only 10 years ago?
Colourful, smooth, 3D ....
Why must OSX gonna look a bit like MSWindows8/9/10?
Fortunately I'm a programmer: I can have my own applications look as I like.

Memory clean? Why are you doing that? You do know that since Mavericks the OS tries to grab all the memory it can, quite deliberately? Any unused RAM you have is wasted RAM, so the OS doesn't waste it.

Do yourself a favour: Turn off memory clean, and keep an eye on Memory Pressure in the Activity Monitor instead. If your memory isn't under pressure, you don't have a RAM issue. Interfering with the way that the OS handles memory (e.g memory clean) might itself be an issue.

There are plenty of background processes running - especially right after an OS upgrade - that require memory, not just a couple of open apps you might see on a desktop.
 
Installed it on a 2009 and 2013 MBP yesterday. Installed flawlessly and has been working flawlessly. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

I have noticed boot time to be a little slower on the 2009.

This. The OP is responsible for his own slowdowns. The OS designers at Apple are smart people and the OS knows how to manage memory efficiently. Trying to one up that by running third party utilities that mess around with memory management is only going to screw things up. His use of "Memory Clean" (whatever that is) is working at cross purposes against the OS.
 
Must say that I'm very impressed with it. No real mis-steps since Lion in my opinion, which was still very good in its own way. Love the UI and haven't noticed /yet/ performance issues, but then I have done a clean install on a 2011 MacBook Pro. Will probably know more about performance in a couple of months...
 
Oh...it sucks so bad that the only issue I had was having to re-pair my
MagicMouse........How could Apple have missed such an issue is beyond
me.

I haven't used Yosemite enough to give feedback other than the appearance of the UI.

I'm not a fan of the flat look and feel that it detracts from intuitive usability. The visual elements are less distinct and take the brain longer to identify.

Obviously Apple is continuing on the path of merging Mac OS X and iOS, maybe not under the hood, but in terms of appearance and functionality.

To ease the pain for you guys a bit, try activating "Reduce transparency" in System Preferences > Accessibility. Or activate "Increase contrast" which makes an even bigger difference.
 
Not I. I always wait for at least two updates to a new operating system before loading it. No reason to be a beta tester even though Yosemite is free :D.

I get that the first .0 release always has some issues. And it is up to each person to decide when and if they want to upgrade. But, this final release is far from beta. It is solid for the majority of users. Also, which recent OS is issue free even after a few updates.
 
For me the mail app is awful. I have 3 different Exchange accounts (Google, Outlook, Office365), and I get errors on every single one. Google and Outlook will only connect through IMAP, and I had to jerry rig the setup to get Office 365 Exchange to work. None of these problems on my phone. I don't get why Apple has so many problems with their stock mail app. Ive never had any issues with the iOS version. They are all connected through Exchange and work fine there. :rolleyes:
 
The use of it seems okay, but the download and install was a disaster. It took 14+ hours for the iMac. Then the MBPr (mid 2013) would install and get to "2 minutes remaining" and then hang (for as much as 11 hours). Finally after two days, I took it to Apple Store. They couldn't do anything. Ultimately had to erase the HD, reinstall Mavericks, and then install Yosemite. I am still trying get to it working like it should.

I have been using and updating Macs since 1990. This is by far the worst install I have ever experienced. Time will tell whether I like the OS itself.
 
A serious advice

Hi all,
since I moved from MSWindows to OSX I started to make screenshots of all
Preferences of System and any application.
It was a lot of work but it paid off:

after the upgrade to Yosemite I could easily verify which settings were
modified by the upgrade, which settings were new and which were ... gone.
I think that several complaints above result from the strange habit of
software manufacturers to reset settings or even to set them to THEIR idea.

It functions well. I like the fonts, but the toyish colors are bizarre. I expect this on my 2 year old's Leap Frog device, not my $2200 iMac.
 
My experience has been great so far on my rMBP. Things look clean and run smoothly. The biggest glitch to date is iTunes and Home Sharing, everything else works as well as before.
 
Shrug. For me, works brilliantly and looks spectacular on my Retina MBP display. Everything is crisp and sharp as a dagger, and very stable.

Several betas ago it was the tiniest bit iffy, but since the second public beta it's been magnificent.

Those having trouble should try uninstalling any antivirus utility they may be using, as these are known to sometimes cause trouble (and are not needed for OS X at this time).

Those who think Yosemite is ugly should get their eyes checked.
 
Yosemite rocks. It opens and closes much faster than Mavericks. No app problems at all.

No problems with the upgrades of our 2 rMBPs while we were on the road.

I've learned a few things from my experience upgrading my Snow Leopard system to Mountain Lion a few years ago... the most important is to NOT upgrade OSX unless there is a compelling reason to, ie. required to support particular software or hardware device.

I was quite surprised by how many little things break when upgrading from one OSX version to the next. That happens with Windows as well, but the difference is that OSX gets updated every 12-18 months.

so I'll be sticking with Mavericks on my iMac and MBA.

That's my personal experience. I'm not attempting to invalidate the positive experiences of others.
