I was able to install as of 8.30 PM CST.. I had not tried downloading in the morning... Just downloaded through Software Update, it rebooted and it installed successfully.. Probably apple fixed the update somewhere in between.

I ended up reinstalling the dev beta profile, downloaded update again, rebooted in safe mode and finally updated to beta 3

I totally appreciate that - but my issue is that wouldn't you test it before releasing it on at the very least the most recently released machines?

Using Beta as an excuse - is waning a little thin.

They literally warn you "DO NOT PUT ON A PRODUCTION MACHINE" in big scary letters. I mean, that's the purpose of a beta?

Quite certain there's some bricked machines at Apple right now, hence the quick pull and re-deploy.

At any rate, my home iMac Pro updated just fine and Catalina is way better in beta 3.

By the comments on this post I'm going to assume they've fixed whatever was wrong with the update? I don't want to go through all of this so my question is, am I safe to install it now? (2012 pre-retina MBP). I know I risk the chance of something going wrong but should it be fairly safe now?

I have just updated mine. However even though I have iCloud Drive enabled all my folders have disappeared from the desktop.

I can access them through finder. But they're not now appearing on my desktop. I have checked finder and iCloud prefs and all is as it should be.

It bricked two machines but it’s my fault for installing them on my machines not apples. They scream at you to only put them on sacrificial machines. So off to the Apple store they go.
Well the worse that could happen they say is that you lose all your data, we are talking here about software breaking hardware. Speaking of, the Genius at Apple Store said we should report this using the Feedback Assistant.
Another this is that this is the second time for me, I tried to boot from an external drive a few month ago and it resulted in the same dead computer. And the external drive was not a beta version but an official version of Mojave... So there is another underlying issue here not related to OS but related to the T2 chip...

I have it running on my 2012 MacBook Pro and it installed just fine...

OK, here is a tip for the future. Do one machine at a time, and see how the first one goes before installing the second.

I guess that is a good point. I still like it better than windows. I hate windows. I am also fairly sure that the devices mentioned above are not "bricked" and you probably could get them running, as well as I could. Unless he powered down in the middle of a firmware update, it is unlikely. I know sometimes the screen goes black for awhile during a firmware update, and there isn't a "clear" notification that will happen...I do fault apple for that.

Ok I got it installed - I am on a 2016 MacBook Pro with touch ID

I thought it had bricked - and gave me the error then it says press Restart - which I did - then it came up with a which drive to u want to boot from - nothing came up - so I closed it via the menu at the top - then a log of some type popped up - which again I pressed restart..

it restarted - and then seemed to continue installing - ie. apple symbol and white line - saying 43 mins to go etc.

Eventually it installed - and started and I am running 19A501i (which is beta3)

On the face of it - icloud looks like its working again... its taking a while but just finished so reckon its my folder sizes.

mail - still has the moving message at the bottom - which I have reported to Apple previously.

Otherwise - its working and seems to be quicker...

I’m trying to install on mine, the download has been stuck at around 3.90GB / 5.63GB for hours (darn slow internet) so I’ll be here for a while.

I installed yesterday on on late 2014 iMac - when it got to 9 minutes remaining it stayed there for over an hour and then finally completed the install.

It appears that they pushed a modified updater today (041-81733). It's pending, I'll try updating tonight and report back.

I'm trying to update to beta 3 and am being presented with the following error:
An error occurred installing the update.
You can try again to complete the installation.

Has anyone been able to successfully update?

Update:
Looking through install.log, it seems that the BridgeOS version the updater its looking for is newer than what Beta 2 includes. This probably explains why only machines with the T1/T2 chips are having issues...

Official iMac had this error. But my Hackintosh successfully updated OTA from B2 to B3 without any issues.
