You know Apple uses the exact same hardware as other manufacturers right? They just have a smaller level of support for hardware options meaning that there is less that could potentially go wrong, but their hardware is by no means of a higher standard than what is available to Windows users.

Careful, you'll likely upset people.

But its the truth, all of apple's components are off the shelf. This is one reason why its so easy to build a hackintosh

Even Apple's motherboard design is light years ahead of everyone else. The way the lay out the memory and so on is just pure beauty. All thanks to Steve Jobs who insisted that prettiness was important down to the last internal component.

When was the last time you looked at an Asus motherboard? They have a very nice layout.

Of course one thing apple has over Asus and other motherboard makers is that they can design a layout that is completely custom to their needs. Asus needs to produce a layout that fits the current AT format because case makers need to expect the layout to be a certain way.

Apple has proven that being fully integrated is the winner. How much margin does Asus make?

I don't think anyone is arguing that in fact that is one of apple's major advantages. With said, other MB makers have made huge strides in motherboard designs.

As for the margins for ASUS, I have no idea. Does that mean if apple has larger margins they're over charging us consumers?

Based on what he said I bet he never has looked at the lay out of a Mobo or understands it.

In the Mac Pro I want to say it uses a BTX mounting/lay out.

Also I might like to add all the big manufactures use some type of custom layout for their boards/cases. Home builders generally go with the ATX mounting system.

All laptops use custom made motherboards.

Obviously not as the market has spoken. Apple's Mac sales keep increasing 25% year on year.

No, it means we should be happy that Apple makes a large profit on everything they sell. Steve does this to make us happy.

It's irrelevant. 99% of people who walk into an Apple Store couldn't give a fig about Steve Jobs. They're buying a product that suits them.

So just the people here care about Steve and profits? You mean that the average Apple customer doesn't worship Steve and throw parties with each record quarter?

Yup. It's just a few fanatics on these web sites.

It really isn't fair to stereotype Mac users based on the forum fanboys. My guess is the majority of Apple consumers like the products because they work well and are simple to use. One doesn't need to be too technically inclined to use them, they are generally quite intuitive.

We are throwing him a birthday party want to come. ;)

Seriously.....you guys and your Steve Jobs worship banter. We like Steve because he is doing a good job leading Apple, not because we worship him. Do we believe everything he says, of course not. But when you come in here and insult him you can bet the wagons will circle and people will defend him. It is not worship it is respect, please learn the difference.

I like Lee Iacocca as well, he did a fantastic job leading Chrysler out of bankruptcy in the 1980's.

Most people like great leaders! Great leaders are visionaries, and eloquent speakers.

It's when Jobs says things like we're in the post-PC era that I want to lambaste him. It's so utterly cynical for him to say that when Mac sales are booming.
