I'm not arguing, I'm agreeing with you that all software has it's issues - what I am saying is that this 10.15 release has issues that are more noticeable and effecting a lot of people than previous OS releases (10.10 excluded!). Users will be happy, but that could be because they don't use the effected parts of the OS.

Very well stated. Myself, I am part of that group which does not use the effected parts of the OS that are causing issues for others. My computer activities are mainly 1) checking EMail, 2) browsing the internet, 3) compose and modify some not so complicated documents and spreadsheets, 4) using Quicken to manage finances, and 5) watching some videos.

I will say, though, that all the software I use is third party, and I make a concentrated effort to keep all of those programs up to date (and especially for compatibility with the version of the Mac OS that I am using, which now is Catalina). I also keep both of my Macs "lean, mean, and clean", and use Oynx and Tech Tool Pro to assist with those (and other) tasks. That of course goes a long way towards minimizing issues, problems, etc.

TimeMachine bug:
Catalina 10.15.2 often not shutting down correctly. After all the usual, time-wasting attempts at fixes (remove all hardware, disable or uninstall various 3rd party apps, reinstall OS, etc etc), the fix was this:

If a TimeMachine volume is locally mounted, then eject before shutdown. Problem solved. This is also widely reported or alluded to in Apple support fora (though yet to be acknowledged by Apple).

Having issues here... "reopen windows when logging back in" is not always horned when checkbox is un-ticked. Apple mail, in particular and some browsers like Safari have reopened some times.

Nothing in System Preferences, Users & Groups >> Login items.., nor is there anything in 'LaunchAgents' folder in Macintosh HD. Only single account on the system, so didn't bother checking 'LaunchDeamons' anything going in there is only for multiple accounts.

Yeah, still happening with me also. Up until this last time, when I started my Mac Mini, and after logging in, the desktop would appear, and then Brave was launched. This last time both brave and a Solitaire game I have both launched.

Really getting frustrating, as it does not happen all the time!

When I first installed Catalina I had a few small bugs that were kinda annoying. Auto dark mode at sunset would fail to trigger randomly, so it was stuck in light mode even with the dynamic wallpaper being dark anyway. It seemed to change if I toggled light mode on, then auto again. Night shift was working fine. It always transitioned from dark to light ok though.

Sound randomly stopped working (volume control in touchbar was frozen too), and the touch-bar would freeze. You could say tap control strip and it expanded properly, but none of the 'buttons' worked.

Both of those just kinda resolved themselves. Not sure if my latest router config helped or not (I blocked a ton of domains and the update servers).

I don't have any 32-bit software to worry about so none of my apps are impacted--it probably helps I bought my MBP just before Cat was released.

So, now that 10.15.3 is officially out, what's the consensus on stability here? I've been holding off installing Catalina for months waiting for some of the bugs to be worked out. Does the 10.15.3 release make it ready for prime time or should I wait longer?

Well, that is if I can get past 2.21 GB...

And it's nothing to do with the internet connection here...

If you're waiting for all the bugs to be worked out, you'll never upgrade. ;)
Does this particular patch (sorry...'upgrade') satisfy whatever may be your particular bug-a-boos? Hard to know, but whatever happens, there will still be a contingent who blame the users rather then the Company - the ' You're holding it wrong' crowd - for whatever issues you may find.

Wow you use gigabit internet

Its a leased line, and it’s only there as a backup, have a few servers in the barn, secured in a purpose built cage that are used for backup and disaster recovery - comes in handy though as it also serves as the home internet connection...

anyways....back on topic....

21 minutes in and got the dreaded server cannot be found issue, so oooks like we could still experience same issues.

also looks like the graphics switching could be iffy, seems to want to switch to the high performance graphics card at the sniff of an application launching...might be because of the jerky graphics issue, and this is the temporary fix...

Mine stalled out at 2.02 GB for the longest time...then eventually crawled it's way to the finish line.
Phew.
On the other hand, I'm not sure what the update has actually done to improve my life...

Since my version is problem free lately (and I disabled updates and no longer care about 'em) I am not affected one way or another. I'm an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of guy.

I guess my router config did work since I'm not getting the notification of an available update that always drove me batty

I have more problems with Catalina I never had on previous macOS versions since I use a mac (El Cap).

-Safari problems with iCloud tabs not working and some webpages will lock-up with the wheel spinning until I close the tab
-Invert colours accessibility keyboard shortcut will not work when the computer come back after a long period on sleep mode. Have to manually turn on the option to re-activate the shortcut.
-The OS seems unstable if its running for more than a week without rebooting with programs like Chrome crashing a lot. (I had one kernel panic when I never got one before)
-Some programs need to be redownloaded from scratch because the update process will not work if I updated in Catalina.

So, for me this release is indeed not the most reliable I experienced and its very disappointing from a company like Apple when they always said "it just works".

Now updated to 10.15.3. Wonder if this will fix some of the outstanding issues.

I did search for the release notes and found a page which didn't have any information. Feel like a child that's being patted on the head by some benevolent uncle. Maybe when I grow up I'll discover he wasn't very nice.

Catalina broke Mac Pro 5.1 comparability. It bricked my MacBook Pro laptop due to a stupid issue with the installer not checking available space before installing. Performance in Safari was horrible in 10.15.2, seems better in 10.15.3. It has randomly deleted e-mails, not been able to index my e-mails, and search functions have been spotty.

This is the worst MacOS release I've ever used. It's worse than Lion. The bugs, performance and annoyances have not only been frustrating, but stopped my computers from working and made my work hard. I've spent hours on phone calls with Apple, ending up with the only solution to let the support team make an error report, and wait for next update.

Obvious professional features are missing throughout the system.

The next MacOS should be called Santa Catalina, not introducing any new features besides adding some needed professional features (like being able to restore a non-OS volume from a TimeMachine backup), cleaning up UI-frustrations, fix performance issues and clear out bugs and broken features throughout the OS. Santa Catalina is the full name of the Catalina island, and it also alludes to Apple needing some divine intervention to fix this Charlie Foxtrot that makes Windows seem clean, tidy and well functioning compared to this mess.

fwiw, your experience is not everyone's, and catalina, for many, is fine (or, at least .2 or .3 fine)... but good luck sorting things out!

Since everything is indeed fine on my end, I won't risk it with any more updates. All I really wanted from Cat was the auto dark mode and IMO better dynamic wallpaper built-in. I do wish that all the forest backgrounds/mountain ones from previous OSs would be dynamic, though. Only having two is quite limiting.

1 day and 14 hours into using 10.15.3 and some problems still exist.

The jerky / choppy graphics are still there, this is where if you leave the lid open on a laptop, receive an e-mail/message and the laptop lights up to show the notification, when you come to use the machine, the discrete graphics card is in a failed state, and the graphics is choppy.

The connecting to server from the finder bug is still there, this is where you click it and then try to mount a share receiving the error that it cannot be found.

The good news is that I've been unable to replicate the SMB share mounted problem where it would crash the finder.

The bad news....at 11AM today I've got a meeting with my client (a large London publishing firm) in order to work out the best way forward, and I can see the way this is going - no more apple products are to be procured and phase the current ones out...the cost comparison has already been produced to replace iPads with Surfaces, desktop and laptops with windows counterparts, and phones with Sony Android devices - £250k in 3 years revenue to apple will be lost...

They are concerned that if it's taken this long to fix business critical issues, then how do we know that further issues will not be introduced for lengthy periods in the future - the main concern being that if new hardware is released the enforcement to run the latest is tying hands - we probably would have kept the new 16" devices if we could have rolled back to 10.14.6.

Im not having any issues with Catalina now [touch wood] but I have learnt not to upgrade to the latest OSX, even if it is free, and wait a good 6 months or so before even thinking of 'upgrading'. (and I use the term 'upgrading' loosely here)

Some of the larger Apple oriented professional customers in my country are not sure if they want to continue for another round. Apple abandoned the 2013 MacPro. In some regards they abandoned their professional customers in 2012, by releasing a slightly updated Mac Pro with previous generation CPU's. The obvious question is, will the 2019 also be abandoned, and if so will it be a horrible investment?
