That’s a great point. And that’s something I missed earlier that I should have mentioned Other than the fluidity of iOS, ecosystem and security, but Apple customers service is imperative to a good experience being that tech products can have issues hardware and software wise, and being that their products expensive, it’s nice to have a company that recognizes that and stands behind their products.

I had decided to try the galaxy s8 plus when it came out. Liked the phone. Androids gotten a lot better than last time I tried it (galaxy s2). But 5 or 6 months in I had an issue with the charging port. It became loose and the charger wouldn’t stay in. Wouldn’t of been worried about it, as I just used wireless charging when I was at home, but needed to use a car charger through the day. Called Samsung and they would of taken care of it, but they wanted me to go without a phone for 2 weeks. Unacceptable. I use my phone for work. Have to have a phone.  is just so much easier. They mail you one then when you get it you send the old one back in. Or you take it to the  store and get the problem resolved on site. And I’m not even talking about the fluencey between devices. Left that part out. I’m just talking how smooth the operating system is on one device alone...period. Throw that across multiple devices...game over. Not trying to take away from android. It’s a good platform. But just not for everybody. I’d rather have the limited iOS (as compared to android) and the consistency and smoothness vs the flexibility but lagging of android.

Don't get me wrong. I really like my iPhone X, but I don't love it. Mainly because I am getting board with iOS and the lack of customization. However, iMessage is the main thing keeping me on the iPhone (even though I am fully in the Apple ecosystem).

I know people will say you can use other apps to do messaging, but having iMessage as the stock messaging system is key for sending pics and videos to family and friends.

Just a thought on this sunny Friday...

One of the reasons I’d say, but I have friends who insist on using WhatsApp no matter what, I get annoyed when I get a message through that from another iPhone user. More so now Zuckerberg owns it and will data mines the hell out of it!

Give me iMessage anyday!

Wireless charger.

iMessage is one of the biggest reasons I will re-up with iOS/iPhone in the fall. Another is FaceTime. Sure, I can use What's App and what not to stay in touch with friends and family. However, I have to see Google prove to me they can get strong QC, offer more affordable pricing, and add an extra year of software support on top of what they currently offer.

You can say I am reluctantly staying on iOS. Mainly because of Watch OS and the Apple Watch.

In USA iMessage does not incur any activation charges.

But in uk and other counties. I believe Apple charges activation fee

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7307143
I’ve never had to pay an activation fee. To be honest if there was a fee I don’t think anybody would bother with it due to the alternatives. That may have worked before the days of WhatsApp and Facebook when BBM was around with a subscription but not in this day and age.

There used to be a subscription fee for whats app. On the iPhone it was a one off payment and on android you had to pay £0.99 a year. It's free now though.

One interesting feature coming to iOS 12 is group FaceTime. Initially I disparaged against it, in retrospect, now I’m thinking how that would be beneficial to company meetings, large family gatherings, etc. would be interesting see how it works.

But great point about WatchOS and the iPhone, huge impact if one owns the watch. It all ties in with iOS, similarly to the HomePod.

No, My two reasons sticking with iPhone;
1. Expensive
2. Status symbol
The expensive part is real as the iPhone is expensive but I can’t say I’d choose something due to paying more?

As far as the iPhone being a status symbol I think that depends where you live. It would be in third world and undeveloped countries but in the US and Western Europe for example they are not status symbols due to the fact so many people own them across all demographics.

I only know one other person with an iPhone and that is my boss at my job.

The only thing really keeping me using an iPhone is my Apple watches. My daily carry phone is either my Note 8 or S9+. My next phone may be the Note 9.

As for the iPhone being a status symbol here in the US, anyone can buy one these days with carriers offering financing or with a credit card. It stopped being a status symbol when the carriers started offering subsidies after the first model.

I’m in the Uk and neither carriers nor Apple charge for iMessage activation.

But you are charged if you send SMS/MMS to people using android in other countries. That's the biggest issue with iMessage.

That’s not an activation fee, that’s what one poster was claiming.

So is everybody else using a sms/mms, what’s your point?

Yes iMessage is the only thing holding me to an iPhone. I have a Mac as well it has nothing to do with seamless iPhone to Mac

No. For me i feel proud because not every person walking on streets own $1500 iPhone.

I’m all over for upcoming 6.1 lcd model.

Android failed miserably in tying in the messaging app with their os and that’s the main driving point I think that’s keeping them behind

I don’t know maybe iMessage is a thing in America but in the U.K. nobody uses it, it’s essentially text messaging which is used to message your gran but that’s about it. Everybody uses Facebook messenger, WhatsApp or Snapchat. Not iMessage lol
Not so. In the UK all my friends and family use iMessage, and FaceTime regularly. Personally I will not have Facebook or WhatsApp even installed on my phone, and would never let them access my contacts or other data. When contacting non iPhone people, if necessary I just pay for normal texts.

Absolutely not, nothing special about iMessage and actually it's a minority use case in most of the world (other than US) where just about everyone uses WhatsApp, Viber, WeChat etc.

I stay with iOS because of the quality of apps - every time I tried Android there was a significant difference in the polish of the apps I use.

when im walking on the street my iphone is either inside the pocket or in the bag. when i read you comment, i got an image on my mind that you are one of those type of people who are walking on the street and talking to their phones like they are going to eat them (keep them in front of their mouth)

im proud of wearing a swiss made automatic watch on my wrist when walking on the street. unfortunately no one sees it and even if they saw it, they wouldnt know the price of the watch because it isnt apple watch, cucci or MK. and those who know the price are probably wearing an automatic watch themselves too.

Many here talk a lot about how marvellous Apple ecosystem is wrt imessage and how bad Android is in this aspect . What many don't understand is that in many countries apps like WhatsApp or WeChat is the ecosystem :). In China, WeChat is so prevalent that a lot of things like messaging and e-commerce revolve around it.
