But anyone can get one on contract in the West. Also £1,500 is less than one months salary so it really doesn’t mean much.

But just because you can pay it off in a month doesn’t mean it’s a wise use of 1 month’s salary/wages. Sometimes people use debt because it means $ could go towards more important things.

It really depends on the person with buying a phone at Apple’s increasing price points. I for one won’t buy the latest and greatest X+ device as I just want something like the 6.1” LCD size.

I went ahead and purchased the Apple Watch Series 1 it will be outdated in about a couple months since I got it at less than $150 brand new. Does everything I expect in a smart watch at a reasonable pace.

Yes I didn’t say it was wise to blow all your wages on an iPhone but what I meant was that it doesn’t mean anything to have an iPhone because most people have the funds to buy one. It’s more about priorities and getting the best value for your money.

Agreed and that’s a reason why I like what’s app. It is free to send Media to anyone. With iMessage if the other person doesn’t have an iPhone then you get charged about 50p per message and the price is going up.
Well if I need to send a photo to someone without an iPhone/iPad I just email it instead. I’d much rather do that than allow WhatsApp or similar 3rd party app free access to all my information.

Yes if you’re already using things like Facebook, Google cloud of any sort etc. then as you say, the information is already out there. I’m (just about) managing to avoid all of these things with no real inconvenience.

You use any internet at all, your info is already out there :)

Buying as an early adopter is probably the worst time for most new smartphones. I have seen people who have zero idea about money management express interest in the iPhone X and asked me if it was a good idea to blow $1000 on the phone now. I told a person to wait for prices to drop since the new devices are around the corner.

So many people have access to the X, via loans, that can't really afford it. They choose to buy it for a statement anyways. Another poster said $15k monthly isn't sufficient to live on. It really depends on the market factors and expenses they may incur. However, if I made 6 figures and didn't spend $ on a yearly iPhone latest/greatest upgrade? I can use that yearly 6 figures to invest $ in index funds, real-estate, or save it for my retirement.

Those are in iCloud :)

And iCloud has a history of leaking huge amount of those out. And history has a tendency to repeat again.
You can choose not to have anything in iCloud. However to your point it’s not like gmail has never leaked out information. Or Samsung made it easy for all by sending you photos to random contacts.

I see the consensus seems to be iMessager is nice, but not the main reason people stick with Apple, just one of the many reasons.

To be quite honest I don't really use the "special features" of the iMessanger app anymore. I used to use it a lot back in high school when iOS 10 came out. In those days everyone experimented with group messages, stickers and actual games that you can play in those group messages like Game Pigeon. Since iOS 11 came out I've seen a decline of people using these features, that or the fact that I've been actually obligated to use WhatsApp now witch SUCKS because I hate the app, compared to iMessanger its a big piece of garbage but thats what most people use to communicate now in 2018 where I live.

But to answer the question, if I one day snap and I want to use an Android phone again in 2018, I would still hesitate. But not because of iMessage, I would hesitate because of the added features that the iPhone adds to the Mac. Having an ecosystem that connects so easily through devices, is just impossible with an Android phone and any computer.

Why does Whatsapp suck compared to iMessage?

You are so wrong :)

I rarely use iMessage. There's literally one person I iMessage with. Where I live whatsapp is the main messaging app people use.

My main reason for sticking with apple is the apps and ecosystem. If it weren't for those two things, I'd definitely would go back to Android.

I miss being able to customize my phone the way I want.

To answer your "question" for the reason that I think that WhatsApp sucks, I will point out that WhatsApp has less compared to iMessege. In iMessage you can send Drawings, Games, Likes/Dislikes, Music, Effects, Current Location, Stickers, heck you can pay people in iMessege, and theres a personalized app store that has apps that do so many different things. Plus we can NOT forget that all of these features are optimized to run perfectly thru iMessage, its not links like in WhatsApp.

I will also point out that that link that compares WhatsApp to iMessage is completely OUTDATED, in that iMessage vs WhatsApp that I believe must be from before iOS 10 points out some things that right now are completely wrong like:

5. You CAN send documents in iMessage
10. You have FaceTime to video chat
13. You CAN send audio voice clips thru iMessage
17. You CAN send music files thru iMessage
24. This one is kinda true but not completely, you can use wifi calling and that won't cost a dime or you could always call the normal way.
36. IS COMPATIBLE WITH ANDROID!? This category is simply Garbage and it does not matter because you can text ANYBODY with iMessage they can be Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone or Flip Phones. IT CAN SEND MESSAGES TO THOSE DEVICES
38. IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS PHONE!? I will say the same as I said in 36
42. iMessage does have that feature and its ten times better than WhatsApp's version
43. Group Voice Chat is a new feature being worked on iOS 12

SideSync ohhhhhhh SideSync. First of all SideSync is an app created by Samsung that only works for SOME of there phones, not all Android users can use this. I also want elaborate that the phone NEEDS to be connected to the computer thru charger cable for the program to work, because of this it creates a layer of inconvenience to use it. The Mac has its Notes, Contacts, Reminders, Messages, Music and Calendar connected to the phone thru internet. Heck you're phone can be off and you can use ANY of the following apps that I've said and when the phone is reconnected to the internet it will sync and it will update what you've done in those applications vice versa. By the way you can also copy something in the iPhone and paste that exact thing in you're Mac vice versa.

There doesn’t have to be a reason why it’s someone’s opinion. So what if a member likes to use iMessenger over a 3rd party app. This is a subjective thread asking owners what they think, not one having to explain ourselves to android owners.

Why must you confront iPhone owners giving thier answers to the question, when “actual owners” are responding with their opinions?

I'm not saying iMessage is rubbish because it's not. If my contacts used it then I would too. However What's App does everything I need it too.

I agree about side sync. Haven't used it for years. It wasn't very good back then but I've no doubt it's gotten better. The concept of it is better because it mirrors your entire phone to your computer so it has more functionality. Credit where credits due. However it requires you to download the app and to connect your phone to the computer. Apple's solution is just more seamless because I don't have to do anything. It just works across multiple devices. I have an iPhone, a MacBook and 2 iPads and they all sync together effortlessly. Some of the features they showed for OS Mojave were great too, like the ability to take a picture on your iPhone and for it to appear instantly on your mac in the document you're working on is great.

Whilst side sync is a good app, Apple will always win because they make mac OS and iOS. So they are constantly working on ways to make your devices work together. Samsung make side sync but Microsoft and Apple really don't care about you using your Samsung phone with their computers so they aren't going to do anything at their end.

WatchChat is actually a great app for WhatsApp for the Apple watch

Very impressed
Didn't know about watch chat. I will try it out thanks. It'e weird that I can use siri on the home pod to create and reply to whats app messages but on the watch it doesn't work just hands it back off to the iPhone. I can only reply to a whats app message using text input.

No. 36 is the Achilles heel isnt it? iMessage has downgraded service to your Android contacts.

It can use wifi pairing also. When when phone is in the same wifi network, it will auto-pair with one or more computer. Plus is you can use all phone services/apps from any of your computer (Mac or PC). Another plus is you don't need to use same login for all your devices/apps for it to work unlike Apple eco-system.

I can do all these with Google. Not sure what is the big deal here.

#36 is androids Achilles heel. You have whatsapp, your friend has hangouts, a third friend has wechat. You are all not communicating or using sms, which iMessage does automatically for non-iOS.

Absolutely not, nothing special about iMessage and actually it's a minority use case in most of the world (other than US) where just about everyone uses WhatsApp, Viber, WeChat etc.

I stay with iOS because of the quality of apps - every time I tried Android there was a significant difference in the polish of the apps I use.

Could you please post us links to the stats your stating?
