My connectivity issues were so bad on both Maxes that I felt like they were half as usable as my 6S Plus. It was that bad on everything related to connectivity phone, LTE, WiFi and even Bluetooth. I sent them both back and got an X - just works! Every time I check in on this forum, I’m so happy for my X.
Yeah we know. We’ve heard it so many times. It’s like you’re gloating.

165 pages in this thread says it all, but of curse there are users that have "no problems" with signal... :)))

Here's the thing, though -- that's probably true. The phone could have a serious connectivity issue that nevertheless would affect only some users. That doesn't mean either side (those reporting the issues or those not experiencing them) are wrong. It simply means the issue may not be affecting everyone.

On a related note -- and I'm sure this is something someone has mentioned already in this thread -- I believe the Qualcomm modem offered particular benefits to Verizon users. It could be that the Intel modems are fine for most GSM users but aren't quite doing it for Verizon users.

I have noticed a somewhat similar issue with my XS as well. I had it with the X as well. Never noticed it with my 7 Plus. T-Mobile customer living in NYC. Every time I take the subway, it takes a good 2 to 3 minutes to pick up signal once I come out of the subway station or after the train pulls in to a stop. This is in places where my work phone (Pixel 3) picks up the signal immediately. It is getting really frustrating. I have to go off on to airplane mode and then off...in order for it to “search” for the signal and get back online to the LTE network. Never have to do this with my Pixel 3.

Do we have any examples of two XS (or XR) owners trying a seemingly working phone next to one that doesn't? For example, one person that has a phone that won't hold a connection and one person that says their phone works great testing both phones next to each other.
Been a while since I've been here, but I still have a video from a few months ago with my 7 and my XS side by side. The upstream was night and day better on the 7 (like 400% faster.) That said, it seems to have been greatly reduced with recent updates so I sold the 7.

My XS has gotten better following the updates too to where I really don’t have any issues anymore. Wi-Fi and lte are as solid as my previous 8+. I was planning to see if the next iPhone’s reception was better than this yrs model and upgrade if it proved better but, mine has now improved to the point I can probably wait til 2020 to upgrade.

That's great to hear. I've been holding off getting once because I didn't want to chance it since I need to trade in my 7+ when i purchase it.

Has everyone else noticed improvements? I saw iOS 12.1.3 was released recently. Anyone tried it?

I never had any of the problems other people reported. My Xs Max has always had better reception than my 8+ that my daughter now uses. Always. And we camp a lot and spend a lot of time in fringe areas.

It has only been a couple of days. Maybe gives folks the weekend to hear a few more reports?

My XS (Intel - Verizon - USA) for downloads crushes my iPhone 7 (Qualcomm - Verizon - USA). The 4x4 MIMO really shines for downloads on the XS. For uploads the XS gets about the same or better (around 20% increase plus or minus when better) than my i7. This could be a carrier thing as I image a carrier would favor download over upload.

I have not had a chance to check all of my poor signal trouble spots. I have found that when it binds to 3G - like say a basement - when you come up to known LTE - it does seem want to hang on to that 3G for a few minutes versus an immediate flip to LTE. Texts and the like work just fine during that few minutes.

The deals are getting really good on the XS/R series.

If you look back through the early days of this thread you’ll see that I did a cross-country trip with two Max’s and had an absolutely horrid experience with both of them. I finally gave up on the phone. Far too much $$$ “invested” in a phone that can’t even reliably act as a phone.

BUT

A few weeks ago my daughter who has been using a 6+ for several years came home from college indicating that she wanted a Max. She knew all too well of my experience, but even still, I made her sit down and read this entire thread. Now concerns of child abuse aside, she did it and still decided she wanted to try. She is a straight A nursing student who also works as a CNA. She has the money so it was her decision to make and she bought one.

I’ve got to say, her experience is day/night compared to mine. While we both agree that her reception is slightly weaker, she doesn’t have any trouble regaining a signal and her WiFi and data transmission is great.

While I do believe that the intel modems are still not nearly as good as the QC counterparts, I also am starting to think that there was a huge batch of simply bad phones that made it into the initial retail stream. I was pleased enough with the camera on the 2 Max’s I tried, I’m contemplating giving it one more chance, as my daughter’s phone is clearly superior to my first 2.

But for those of you who haven’t experienced the frustration of a bad Max, don’t think that it’s simply in the minds of the people. There really have been some issues with the phones!

I'm also seeing many post that the software updates are improving things too.

So this still hasn't been fixed huh?
Haven't read this huge thread for a while.
Sorry to see the issue still exists for many. :(

Mine has been fine, and working as good as older phones. In the beginning, I saw very slow upload speeds, but things are normal with the last few updates. People have had issues with losing a connection, and not getting it back without a restart or toggling airplane mode off and on. I actually never had this problem with my max, but my Qualcomm X did this a lot. I think this has been a combination of software issues and cell provider issues, with a dash of bad handsets. I’ve been seeing less and less threads about this, and even this one isn’t as energetic as it once was. I hope that is because there are fewer and fewer people with issues. I am happy with mine anyway.

I've had really good reception with mine. Maybe a little slow to regain signal, but I'm getting reception in areas that I thought it was impossible before. Also, there is a part of my commute on the train where I've always had full signal but data didn't work before due to congestion. I'm now able to use data there.

Sounds like the problem has either cleared up or gotten better for a lot of people.

Anyone not seeing improvements? I might have to reconsider either getting a XR or XS Max.
