60 FPS gaming is not real world enough?

For more info: https://www.anandtech.com/show/13392/the-iphone-xs-xs-max-review-unveiling-the-silicon-secrets/3

A12 also allows it to be futureproof.

Camera? XS has the best camera system in the world, per DPreview. It has the best combination of pics and video capability, bar none.

Display? Ask XDA Developer (big Android developer site) what they think of XS/X display.

What are you trying to proof? We all know it has the beastly A12 and a great camera, yes, and we all love apple products, but we are also not blind whenever they screw up.

Sure... With an in house SOC design and an efficient OS of course you're going to get good frame rates on Battle Royale games, such as Fortnite and PUBG. Also some apps will probably load a few seconds faster. That's the advantage of controlling both the hardware and the software. However in real world situations it makes little difference, most people aren't playing the latest FPS, rather loading and using social media apps and texting. The displays are Samsung screens tuned by Apple. Samsung could also tune the same screens for a more natural look that would look identical, instead of being a little over saturated. I personally like a slightly more saturated screen than natural.

First part...huh?! 60 FPS is huge in gaming! #1 game right now is Fortnite and Asphalt 9. 60 FPS gives a distinct advantage.

As for display...it’s more than that. Android does not have system wide color management. Samsung canNOT just tune it. Lol

No issues on my Max. Great reception and call quality.
My 6s Plus was great, Max is even better.

Seems like build quality or parts quality was very uneven, so unfortunately, luck of the dra w.

Do we have any examples of two XS (or XR) owners trying a seemingly working phone next to one that doesn't? For example, one person that has a phone that won't hold a connection and one person that says their phone works great testing both phones next to each other.

Not sure if it’s the phone (iPhone XS Max) or iOS 12, but this has been the worst experience with this phone.

I’m getting “no connection” errors when I’m actually connected. I have slow and weak cell connections. WiFi drops intermittently. Alerts are spotty. Apps start to get jittery, requiring phone restart.

I’ve started running betas so I can report when issues occur, hoping it’s a software issue.

It it was a software issue, it would have been fixed by now. The problem has been going on since the iPhone XS release last September (4 months). IMHO, Apple keeps releasing software patches to fix a hardware issue. Apple needs to come clean with its customers regarding the real root cause of this issue.

From today. Once again LTE challenging area in northern Indiana. iPhone XS vs my old iPhone 6s.

Same SIM card swapped between phones - ATT.
All apps shut down. WiFi and Bluetooth shut down. Each picture has note with which phone was it taken.

iPhone XS has two pictures since it didn’t fit all in screen.

What are you trying to prove? There is no doubt that the XS should do better than an iPhone 6s if the signal is decent. It has carrier aggregation and a ton of other LTE advances on it. You are showing screen shots when it has 3/4 bars so the signal obviously isn’t at a fringe level. That’s where the issues come in.

Actually the fact that you are only seeing marginal speed increases from a phone 4 years ago to now is kind of more pathetic if you ask me. But oh well.

For those of you folks that are still having problems with your XS/XS Max, what is the latest words from Apple regarding resolving your problem? Is Apple still pursuing a resolution for the problem, or are they denying the problem and passing it off to your wireless carrier?

Unfortunately, “mums the word” from both Apple and carriers.

I’m still having the same issue, no service in iffy reception areas or no service when it shows two bars of LTE. My older iPhones work fine in those areas. The last I heard from my Apple rep they told me it’s a carrier issue. No more contact from them in at least a month now. Very sorry I bought this phone. I will never again jump into a new phone until I see if anyone is having problems. I no longer trust Apple to fix it. Stupid of me not to have returned it when I could.

Damn. This is still going on...

I haven't checked in on this thread for quite a while now. I've had my Max for 5 weeks and have been using it across two countries in a variety of locations with coverage that varies and I've yet to encounter a problem.

This is just bizarre. For those of you with problems and have Apple Care, I'd use up one of your replacements to get rid of a crap phone. This shouldn't be happening still after 4 months. Apple really need to up their game in 2019. I hope all this negative press pushes Apple forward in a good way and not the doubling down way.

New dev beta today. Just installed it on my device. Apparently the modem firmware was updated from 1.03.05 to 1.03.07.

Might want to try the beta when you get the chance.

Unfortunately there is no negative press other than what is on this and other forums like this one. There is nothing about this problem in the mainstream media to alert folks to the issue. If this issue were to appear in the mainstream media, Apple would be forced to resolve the problem and ensure that their customers are satisfied. It looks like Apple is going to succeed in throwing the XS and XS Max customers under the bus.

Its just perplexing that the issue is all over the place. Some people better, some the same, and some worse. My XS Max has been as good as my X all around SF in areas of good and bad reception. My friend just got an XS and is in Asia and is having a horrible time where he has to put the sims he buys in his Android and tethers the iPhone to it to use Imessage and iPhone apps. He gets no service on the same sim that works fine in the Android. In HK he had to restart his phone every time to get it to connect to China Mobile. I'm wondering if there is something bigger here then just a poor hardware design.

The bolded. I was a bit concerned reading the comments, but I got the max anyway. I haven't noticed any real issues and voice quality over Volte is excellent. No dropped calls, wifi at home and public wifis are stable. It could be that apple has quietly been tweaking the internal designs. It's not an unheard of practice for engineering revisions to be incorporated into currently manufactured products.

Possible but many people with day 1 iPhones are having the same exp as you. Who knows.

So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to XS Max from a 7 Plus after Apple boosted the trade in value to $300 for the older phone. I've been reading this thread since inception and was afraid what I'd get playing the XS roulette game, but nonetheless, I dove in. First thing I checked was my home Wifi through Speedtest and I didn't notice ANY reduction in speed, all was normal. Outside of the home, I have noticed the reception indicator to actually have more "full bars" which I know doesn't necessarily mean better reception, but I rarely got that on my iPhone 7 plus. No dropped calls and no issues picking up wifi immediately when I'm home. BTW, I am in the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania for reference. So far, so good.
