That’s essentially where I am at too.

As I said, I planned on getting this day one. It’s been four years since I got my launch day Air 2, for me it’s time. Except I played with the new Pros and keyboard folios and I was just not impressed, particularly with the new higher prices. What was $900 last year all in with a 64gb WiFi model, pencil, and keyboard is now $1,100. And with some features/accessories removed.

It pisses all over the iPad Air 2 and is much better than the 10.5. Sounds like you can not afford one so just buy the basic 2017 model, it too works with the first gen pencil and is faster than your air 2.

I can get either for free, cost isn’t the issue.

And any other model that isn’t a Pro after the Air 2 is a lesser model/downgrade.

It’s a flop in my mind. If it can’t even convince me to upgrade my 9.7 Pro from 3 years ago it’s obviously failed. Part of the reason is the price - if it were 150 bucks cheaper it’d be a different story. There are lots of people like me, too. I started a poll asking 9.7 Pro owners if they would upgrade, and about 30% said they wouldn’t and 10% said they wouldn’t until a good sale rolled around.

Supplies are tighter than I would have expected here in the UK. Our biggest electronics retailer, Currys, has virtually no stock in stores; none in Argos; John Lewis also has many models out of stock. Carriers such as O2 are giving 4+ week estimates for stock of cellular models.

My local Apple stores were all sold out until yesterday but seem to have restocked.

I honestly have to laugh a little at people who are outraged over price increases, I honestly think that people are just upset because they expected it to stay they same price and it didn’t. I’m not convinced that people actually think it isn’t worth the money I think they are just disappointed that they didn’t get what they expected.

As an owner of a 12.9 gen 2 I didn’t feel like I was getting ripped off at all with my 11”, would I have appreciated spending 150 less for the same thing of course but my expectations don’t make it not a good value.

If someone doesn’t think the value is there that is fine with me everyone is different but to some of us the value is there, no one would be upset with a cheaper iPad but lots of us feel it is worth it as is.

I'd be surprised if it sold very well.

I still don't think Apple understands the market that they built here. No one I have ever met has cared about an iPad camera, and Apple puts a great big gaudy camera on the back of it that makes it wobble more than ever before. People like thin, but not at the expense of durability and with a folio case that makes it heavier than the previous year's model with a keyboard attached. They've priced this thing ridiculously high. No matter how many times Apple tries to market it as one, the iPad is not a replacement for a laptop or desktop computer because the OS cripples it. And speaking of pricing, $200 for a keyboard case with no backlight and only two adjustable positions? It's borderline embarrassing.

If Apple released an iPad with a modified version of OSX on it I think it would be a home run. Until then, nowadays people are just like "Yawn, another iPad running the same OS its been running since it launched with a couple of bells and whistles."

I'll agree with the fact that the camera on the BACK of the iPad is a waste of time. I may use it from time to time to snap a photo of something real quick for reference, but never for "real photography" - that said, if they dropped the camera from the iPad, you'd have just as many people complaining that it's gone.

As far as a wobble goes...don't most people hold it in their hands or rest it on their lap?

It's certainly not a flop I just firmly believe it should be more mac/pc like to be able to actually replace a mac at those prices. It's the Rolls Royce of tablets I just think if they tout it as a pc replacement it should be just that. It's a phenomenal piece of technology though and worth it if you have the cash to burn.

I’ve used my camera in certain instances around the home when I’m taking a picture of the kids or dogs, but just have my iPhone in my room charging ... while it’s not meant to be professional photography it did the trick to sometimes grab a nice selfie with one of them and or something with decent quality. I do notice that the quality and ability to get a stable picture is severely diminished on the new iPad, and that’s a little upsetting. But the new iPad is better in every other way and wouldn’t trade this back to the 10.5 for anything.

Wish they would come out with a magnetic back plate to make it flat but that didn’t have a keyboard attached ... just to not screw up the camera ... c’mon china ... let’s get those on amazon!

I can’t recall any iPad release in the last 5 years or more where there was any kind of significant long-term supply issue. Often it’s similar to this year x generally good availability with spotty models out of stock which isn’t surprising given the number of model combinations that exist. Ipads just don’t sell in anywhere near the volumes of the iPhones and the majority of users keep them for years until they break or are finally aged out.

So you can get it free but the price increase put you off? Doesn’t sound right. Also, Apple have increased prices across their entire catalogue of devices so I’m not sure what surprises you about the iPad pricing.

I'm not saying that it should be removed, but there is no reason to put some huge camera lens on the back of the iPad. It is purely marketing fluff and another way to try and justify the increased cost of the newer models. They could have put the exact same camera in the newer models and it would have been better than what's on the new ones.

It’s exactly the same in terms of functionality. How it looks or how it is unlocking is secondary...
Face ID is actually used quite a bit for authentication, not just unlocking. To me it's definitely an improvement in functionally over my Air 2.

Also, being able to run Photoshop with Apple Pencil, which i couldn't on the Air 2, will increase my productivity.

2018 iPad is faster and has support for the Pencil. It's a little bit thicker though, so it depends on how obsessed you are with thinness.

I have last year’s 10.5” 256 GB cellular and iPhone X. I actually dont feel compelled to upgrade. With those ridiculously ridiculous prices of all things Apple, our family has decided to slowly wean off Apple products.

The piece of junk Apple TV 4K is collecting dust because it cannot do ATMOS and DTS passthrough. Nvidia Shield TV has taken it’s place full time. With Apple’s refusal to sign Nvidia’s drivers for Mojave, I am not buying a mac Mini. It simply won’t support RTX 2080 in Thunderbolt enclosure. Nvidia’s GPU
are simply more powerful at same power consumption compared to AMD’s rebranded cards.

Apple is making it really difficult for me to hang on to their products.

I am not sure you can consider it a flop. The iPad is a modest seller, but sells more than traditional computers. So you have to look at it like that. It's not going to sell like an iPhone sells or little smart speakers sell on the holidays, it's a computer. That said, none of the issues you mentioned are actual issues for me when using mine. I am very happy with my 11 and it's been my favorite iOS device so far. I bought it for the new design alone.

As far as screen protectors go, depends what you want to use. Glass ones, without a cutout for Face ID, are a complete disaster, save your money.

Normal film ones seem fine. I’m using one, not for protection, I like the feel of a matte one with the Pencil. It’s working perfectly, even though it covers Face ID there’s been no side effects in the past few days. And that’s just cheap crap from eBay as it was the only one I could get in time.

Such a flop I’ve got a delivery time of a month !
Don't be surprised if it takes that entire month to get delivered!

Apple delivery estimates are now spot-on, and it took until October 19th to receive my Apple Watch 4, when I could have walked right over to the Apple Store 2 weeks earlier to pick it up off-the-shelf.

But I let the delivery happen, just to gauge the Apple estimate and because I had to have it shipped to an alternate address anyways.

And it took. every. single. day. of. Apple's. estimate. to. arrive.

At the price they're charging, they've ensured it will remain a niche device for the vast majority of users.

It’s an amazing device with a slimmer body with same or bigger screen. A new design.

Certainly not a flop. Not apple products are flops really.

If you are biased against IPads it is a flop to you. If you like them it is not. Who cares except you the buyer.
