I see no compelling reason to upgrade unless you're an artist, and even then.

And this is entirely Apple's fault as there's now a major disconnect between the OS and hardware; something that makes Apple's ecosystem attractive in the first place. It's almost like they haven't thought this through, or there's some kind of a delay Like Intel's having, but in reverse (Software vs hardware).

Sure, if you don't already own an iPad you might want to pay $$$ for a new one. Maybe the smart money now is on the previous gen until Apple gets it together. But there's no sign of this.

People really need to complain loudly, and with their wallets. iOS needs cursor support, and greatly improved multitasking. Also, they need some in-house pro apps, and outside developers need to be wooed to the platform.

It's interesting though, as we all know how ridiculously powerful the hardware has gotten, and the 20x overkill with all computers. But iOS now takes the crown for unused horsepower.

Then again, it may just be a matter of lack of pro apps. I know that's really how I make my buying decisions with computers. I have PC's for certain apps, iPads, and iPhones have their particular uses.

That is the best quote to sum up what's wrong with this year's release (besides the RAM issue with only 4GB on all but the overpriced 1TB [6GB] model).

The upcoming iOS 13 *could* remediate, however it will be another 10 months until launch.

Now before anyone blows their lid, know that I still do plan to buy on. Hell, I planned to buy one launch day and be at my local best buy at opening. Even asked the day ahead if I had a chance to get one without a pre-order and was told 'if you're here early enough, you should be okay'. Here we are a week later, and it's not only readily available, it never sold out at any store.

To me it's a few things. Coming from an Air 2, this new Pro 11 was a planned day one purchase. Then I decided to wait just a few days for some real world reviews. And the issues starting to arise... you can't use a screen protector on it as it disables Face ID and also touch sensitivity. You cannot apparently use it flat on a couch as seen by many videos. And there are no real cases available, just folios and Chinese knockoffs on amazon. The cherry on top for me is the audacity to increase prices of the device, the folio, and the pencil, yet DOWNGRADE them with a worse camera, non fully functional USB cord, and no extra pencil tips.

So I wonder, did apple overproduce it? Is the price scaring people away? Or do most people just not care about this cycle of the Pro series?

Ehhh I wish the iPad Pro was still in stock. In both the Netherlands and Spain, all iPad WiFi models with the exception of the 64GB were sold out last weekend. I ordered one and will have it end of November.
Of course the price has a negative influence (personally, I think the price of Apple Accessories is going too far, but unfortunately people keep paying for them, not me), but it could also be Apple had too many in stock for the US and too few for the EU

You could not be more correct. I don’t want a giant iPod that costs over $700. Jeez, a $300 2in1 Windows 10 laptop (that has a detachable keyboard) can do SO much more than what the OS provides on the iPad. May not have the best specs but still...

Not totally liking what I am seeing with this new version.
I have a lot of quality problems with my G2 12.9 and really want to be sure this will be a quality holds up well device before I replace my current. Would like to stay with the iPad.
Waiting for now. Looking at the Pixel Slate as an alternative.

1: I laugh anytime I see anyone at a Disney park use their iPad to take photos. The camera is FINE! The iPad isn't meant to be a camera.

2: the Pencil tips are a non-issue. Most of my artist friends haven't ever had the need to replace the pencil tip, and we're using the Pencil WAY MORE than non-artist types. If we're fine with one tip, so will most other people.

I seriously don’t get the outrage on the pencil tips. I use my pencil constantly for work, and I don’t see any wear on it.

It's a device for non-pros but overpriced for the average consumers. Wouldn't call it a flop but it's more of a niche device for fanboys who want supercomputing synthetic Geekbench performance while stuck surfing YouTube at 1080p on a 2732 x 2048 display.

Are creative professionals no longer professionals? There are plenty of us making a living with the iPad. "Professsional" doesn't necessarily mean a programmer or someone working with spreadsheets all day.

Haven't watched a single YouTube video on my new Pro. I have, however, taken three commissions from conception to finished product on my iPad alone.

What do you do when a new iphone releases? There's limited cases when those launch as well. Nitpicking.

My favorite macrumor member.......agree

I'll agree with the fact that the camera on the BACK of the iPad is a waste of time. I may use it from time to time to snap a photo of something real quick for reference, but never for "real photography" - that said, if they dropped the camera from the iPad, you'd have just as many people complaining that it's gone.

As far as a wobble goes...don't most people hold it in their hands or rest it on their lap?

The camera on the back is there for one thing mainly: document scanning.

I'd be surprised if it sold very well.

I still don't think Apple understands the market that they built here. No one I have ever met has cared about an iPad camera, and Apple puts a great big gaudy camera on the back of it that makes it wobble more than ever before. People like thin, but not at the expense of durability and with a folio case that makes it heavier than the previous year's model with a keyboard attached. They've priced this thing ridiculously high. No matter how many times Apple tries to market it as one, the iPad is not a replacement for a laptop or desktop computer because the OS cripples it. And speaking of pricing, $200 for a keyboard case with no backlight and only two adjustable positions? It's borderline embarrassing.

If Apple released an iPad with a modified version of OSX on it I think it would be a home run. Until then, nowadays people are just like "Yawn, another iPad running the same OS its been running since it launched with a couple of bells and whistles."

Why the camera on iPads? Apple is betting BIG on AR & VR. It will figure greatly in iPhones & iPads going forward. That’s why.

From what I have read in the reviews is the new iPad Pros the software hasn't matched the hardware and that Apple themselves is kind of crippling it when it comes to storage. I think the longer it is out in the marketplace the applications will get better and improvements to iOS will be forthcoming. A while back I also read that Apple stated they wouldn't do away with MacOS, but rather they want to integrate iOS and MacOS, so developers will have an easier time developing applications for iOS platform devices. So I think early adopters are just going to have patience.

Apple still hasn't given me a reason to spend over 2x the amount over the $329 iPad for an iPad "Pro".

My 2018 iPad does everything I need it to do and can do everything a "Pro" can do.

Apple, you gotta have more than a true-tone display to get me going.

At the end of the day, iOS hold all iPad models back.

iPad is 8 years old. iPad Pro is 3 years old. I wouldn't label anyone an early adopter at this point.

and no mouse support or 3.5 aux jack, not just for headphones but alot of speakers. Stuff that the cheapest laptops or desktops support. Pro my @ss. More like a step backwards.

As I mentioned after, I never said the camera should be removed. I just don’t think it needs to be some huge lenses made out to look like it’s some professional shooter. It’s a waste.

Yeah i keep hearing a lot of stuff from Apple on AR and VR and not a single machine they offer can do VR, so yeah that’s a big no.

Yeah it can do some AR but it’s not something that is some type of game changer right now. And the AR applications out there are buggy as heck.

So to summarize; no, the iPad Pro does not need that huge camera.

I gave my fiancée the choice of taking my 10.5 instead of selling it or keeping her 2018 iPad and she decided to stick with the budget model. She could notice the better screen, design, promotion, speakers, anything. It’s always interesting to me for some to see value in a product and it’s features while others simply don’t.

I would have been in the market for the 11 inch if it weren’t for the fact that the logic board went out on my 9.7 Pro in July of this year. The 9.7 was only 14 months old or so, just out of warranty at the time. I replaced it with a 10.5 because I was not willing to wait until Oct. since I use my iPad daily.
