Yeah, what's it been now 4 months of constant online tantrums over it? You'd figure that by now people would be exhausted from all the effort they've put into hating on it and would have moved on.. Some might even be close to having a stroke over it if the postings here are any indication..

Meh, people should get what they want an move on if the X is not to their liking. Don't like the notch? Cool beans! Nobody is forcing them to buy it as there are plenty of other options..

I don't believe any one is having a tantrum here, it's a forum to discuss Apple products (the good and the bad)
[doublepost=1520637815][/doublepost]This is why complaining about poor design is a good thing (along with praise where deserved). The finger print scanner was in a terrible location on the S8, now at least Samsung has improved it. Was this from all the bitching on Samsung forums etc.. ?? I have no idea, but the change certainly wasn't brought about by all the people saying "you get used to it" and "stop hating"

I have zero interest with the fingerprint sensor on a back of a smart phone. Others have said its not as bad one would think once you try it, but That doesn’t change my perception. I firmly believed Apple never considered placing the fingerprint sensor on the back of the iPhone. It was either Face ID or embedded under the display. Then Craig Federighi stated Apple experimented with Touch ID under the display, but Facd ID was always their primary goal.

I agree the best place for a sensor is on the front, but it is a good compromise to at least have one on the back in addition to a face unlock, Apple just removing it completely is another duff move IMHO.

While in the past I would agree with Apple's philosophy of you have to "tell the customer what they want" was true, it is becoming less and less relevant in this day and age.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the print readers on the back and am glad Apple didn't go that route. You do get use to it being there after a while but it's still a terrible place to put it. I've used it there on the Pixel. Pixel 2 and the Essential but I never liked it. I do like how Sony use to implement it but they decided to put it on the back starting this year.

faceID is just as accurate as touchID, for me at least, and it keeps the phone clean looking, unless someone loathes the notch that is.

well rumours it may go by 2019...will see.

The notch minimum is here to 2018 and likely 2019. The hardware changes have to be significant enough where they can reduce the notch either with sensor/camera refinements or display alterations.

Only a matter of time re: Apple putting a Touch ID button under the display. I don’t believe Apple marketing-speak for a second and never have. It may take some years. Android will start doing it and it’ll be half baked and a nuisance. Then Apple will have perfected the tech and an entire Keynote will be held on how revolutionary the tech is. And all the fanboys will praise it as the greatest feature ever.

Steve said the iPhone would never have a larger screen / will always be usable in 1 hand correct? Eventually they had to succumb and the same thing will happen with the Touch ID under the screen, because everyone will be doing it in a few years. Whenever Apple does it it’ll be done right.

If that’s your belief, then how do you explain that Craig Federighi stated that Apple attempted to place touch ID under the display, but They abandoned the project in place of Face ID being there number one priority. Federighi never stated Apple never failed placing the sensor under the display, but openly admitted Touch ID under the display was not their goal and it was always Plan B. When Apple stated Face ID is their future, I think it’s here for much longer than you’re giving credit too. By Federighis interview, I don’t have credence to believe Apple will migrate to placing Touch ID under the display.

Furthermore, it’s been rumored with in the last few days (By Ming Kuo), that the Galaxy Note 9 no longer will included a fingerprint sensor under the display due to technological challenges. So clearly the limitations are there for manufactures with an OLED display.

Agree... I think Apple will make it smaller and smaller over time and maybe at some point, when they have perfected the tech, the under screen reader will come.

re: the rumor of them doing away with faceID? Well, that was from ET news --> LOL and is was nothing more than click bait in my opinion.

I'll go ahead and make a more solid prediction... --> The iPhone will exist in 2019!

Respect your points. I just believe that once Android starts doing it (and they will) Apple will follow suit but will master it. They won’t ignore a killer feature that every other phone will feature, just like they played catch up with big screens. I believe Face ID and Touch ID can co exist in the future. We will all see sooner or later. That said, hatred for notch aside, Face ID has worked flawlessly for me, 99% of the time.

Good find. I had a feeling.

So Apple figured this out already and came up with innovative UI gestures instead, making home button obsolete.

Guess others will need to figure something out. Stay stagnate with a home button, innovate something new Or join the UI gestures too and copy Apple along with the notch.

Is it jus me but as an X owner, other phones seem dated now to me. :D

After using the X for a while now I don't think I could ever go back to a home button having phone.. faceID works at about the same rate as touchID did and the gestures are intuitive.

Plus, aside from the tiny cutout for the notch, it's all screen! :D

Agreed.

I can't wait to replace my iPad Air 2 with a new iPad featuring Face ID and a large notch. I don't even notice it.
