there has been no bigger screw up than vista and the xbox 360
mobile me and 2.0 bugs are very temporary, as for 3G problems, they seem to be very isolated

I agree with you completely on the Vista part.....
but unless your referring to how the xbox 360 is supposed to work with vista and does so poorly,
i have no idea where your coming from about the 360 being a screw up
i love my 360
the games are phenomenal
what theyre doing with the fall software looks amazing, dare say, apple quality?
i have had the red rings, i know the hardware tends to malfunction, and i know that is a problem
but they handle it very well, and it doesnt anger me in the slightest

dont make me remind you what happened last time Apple tried to make a game console.....

There is nothing to see here. At the end of the day people still rush out and purchase the iPhone 3Gs.

What simple task is much more difficult and complicated to do on Vista than it is on Mac OSX?

Just one example, and it's XP, not Vista. ( I haven't bought any MS OS since switching to Mac). A relative gave my kids a couple of computers, with XP. Connected them to my wireless network, (in itself more complicated than a Mac).

For various reasons, had to change the password on my network. All my Macs brought up the network, asked for the password, saved it to keychain, and connected. Not so the XP machines. Had to go in and completely delete the connection in the comp, and create a new connection. Failing that, XP insisted on supplying the old PW, and connection was refused.

I don't have Vista, but my parents do, and I get to go fix issues from them. Their Vista has been pretty good, but it's still a pain to deal with.

well i was upset when one of my 6 360's (all died on me) scratched up a game that is now unplayable and MS wouldnt replace the 60 dollar game

also, i was upset when MS wouldnt reimburse me or give me extended live coverage that i payed for but was unable to use as a result of my 360 being sent in for repair ( took like a month and a half to get it back)

I mean I don't have to convince you of anything. I can only tout my own personal experience. I have a decent laptop and everything runs smooth on it. What do you want me to do? Come to your house and show you how awesome my laptop with Vista is?

I see Vista everyday at work, thank you anyway. It looks like what it is, a poor copy of OS X.

*Just thought I'd dump more fuel on this grease fire :D

What was the point of that post? Thanks for the story about XP but we're talking about Vista and OS X here. I admit, connecting to a network in XP was painful but MS really cleaned up in that area with Vista.

How Vista looks ANYTHING like OS X is beyond me and probably everyone else with proper eyesight.

Hence the poor copy part of my comment, all that money in R&D and Microsoft still can't get a decent OS.

*Actually this thread more closely resembles a dumpster fire I think I'll walk away at this point. Just remember you are at the MacRumors: Forums.

The window movements, how the hover over each other like in OS X, and when they slide into the background like using exposé in OS X. Those are the only comparisons I see in Vista.

Microsoft vs Apple
Lets see here, I have had a Vista based laptop since September. I have never had to restore it.
I have had an Iphone 3G for two weeks that has had to be restored 3 times now.

Point 1 for Microsoft

Windows allows third party developers to do as they please.
Apple says - only if we allow it.

Point 1 for Microsoft

Internet Explorer (I am talking Windows mobile) loads Flash based websites
Safari doesn't

Point 1 for Microsoft

Microsoft can play Divx, Xvid, AVI, MP4, Quicktime
Apple only Quicktime

Point 1 for Microsoft

Windows mobile comes with pocket Word, Excel, Powerpoint
Apple - we can read only

Point 1 for Microsoft

So far its 5 points Microsoft, 0 for Apple.

BTW, what is so wrong with Vista anyway???? It works every bit as good as all my Windows XP based systems?

Granted I love my Iphone, but it does have its limitations. The video codec thing is my biggest peeve. Its a video Ipod!!!! Allow the most common video codecs. I know there is one being created for jailbroken Iphones which brings up another point you SHOULDN'T have to jailbreak to do common things. Even the Iphone doesn't include themes - whats up with that????? Oh thats right, Apple products are always boring looking. Itunes, Quicktime, Safari. If I could I would bypass Itunes and use Rhapsody anyday.

Sorry to rant, but I hate these people that thing Apple is the best thing out there. It still doesn't come close to being the market leader.

first of all, don't complain about people liking Apple products IN A MAC FORUM
thats why theyre here
go make fun of us in a windows forum

point 1-don't even try to convince me that its fair to compare a laptop to a mobile phone, even a smart phone

point 2- apple allows it on their computers. if your referring to phones, i believe apple is taking the right stand. 3rd party apps that arent checked can do all sorts of bad things, wether because they mess up the phone, or because they steal info (there HAVE been apps that copy your phonebook and send it to the developers). but if your willing to trade stability for function, then i can see your point here

point 3- lets be honest. windows mobiles internet is awful. flash is coming. (as stated below) and when it does, it will be done RIGHT. the real internet, useable, and enjoyable

point 4- i can play all those files on my mac just fine. if your talking about phones, I can play mp4s on my iPhone. i havnt ever found a web video (not a download) thats an AVI. maybe I dont look hard enough. The thing the iPhone lacks is FLASH (and a pdf reader). however, Adobe is working on it, and doesnt want to release it until its faster (i hear its a bit sluggish right now). Its a pretty new platform. Give it time

point 5- this seems to be your only completely valid point. although i personally dont need this, I know there are plenty of people who do.

vistas biggest problem is lack of compatibility
i have a pc that dual boots vista and xp. the capture card/tv tuner works fine with xp. not at all with vista. the companys website said a driver would not be available for vista anytime soon.

appearance is a preference. i think apple software looks great. but if you truly prefer rhapsody, it works with iPods now, from what i hear

its 4 dollars a month
are you really that cheap? think of it as a repair charge

as for the disc, thats too bad.
did you move the xbox with the disc in it? they tell you not to do that in the manual, as it will scratch the disc.

Yeah, that's why it took my 20 year old step nephew an hour to get the Vista laptop to connect to the network.

Meanwhile, the G3 iMac I gave my dad connected in about 20 seconds.

I'm beginning to strongly doubt you have ever used Vista. Your comment about Vista being a "poor copy" is completely unfounded and you haven't provided one reason as to how Vista is a poor copy of OS X. This is exactly why I hate fanboys. They love arguing and never provide anything substantial to back up their arguments.

I wasn't aware healthy discussions about Macs and PCs were outlawed here. I am aware we are at Mac Rumors (as if all the fanboys weren't a dead giveaway). We are still talking about Macs here so I really don't know why you felt the need to remind me what URL is in my address bar.

Vista is great. So is OS X. Don't trash one just because you use the other. Trash the other OS because you have honestly had a bad experience with it.

well then i can agree with you there
they should replace it

but you can't say your not impressed by the quality of the games, which, in the end, is why you buy a console to begin with.

gears of war, halo 3, call of duty 4, bioshock, mass effect, oblivion
all great games

plus the quality of whats coming...unbelievable
fable 2, fallout 3, BIA: Hell's Highway, Rise of the Argonauts

but i should probably stop talking about xbox in a mac forum

I'm 20 years old and mine connects fine everytime. I don't know why age is relevant here?

If your step nephew doesn't have a great laptop then I can understand that. It's not Vista's fault it wouldn't connect, it's most likely his wireless card.

Comparing Apple computers to computers running Windows is pretty stupid to begin with. Apple controls what hardware goes into everything running OS X. Microsoft doesn't have that luxury. They have to try to make their OS work with everything under the sun and let's face it, some hardware manufacturers aren't as great as others and will skimp out on quality parts.

hey, dont call him a fanboy
those are the guys who list every piece of apple equipment they've ever owned in their sigs

and the same goes for you. don't trash him just because YOU'VE had a good experience. im happy that your one of the lucky ones. but the point is, there ARE lots of problems with vista. Microsoft has admitted it.
and although vista doesnt look much like OSX superficially, looking at a list of what microsoft added to vista that already existed in OSX is almost hilarious. and looking at the similar apps side by side (apps that didnt exist in XP, but did in tiger)
one example is Vistas sidebar (dashboard, anyone?)
oh but wait. Vistas sidebar uses GADGETS. Dashboard uses WIDGETS

you're right. they're not similar at all

I'm not trashing him. If you look back at my posts in this thread I haven't said anything negative about Mac OS X except for the problems my friend is having. I'm not trashing anything.

Where is this list? Link?
Vista's sidebar and Mac OS X's dashboard are hardly what make a good OS. They're both gimmicky and I have my sidebar turned off.
