Other It’s almost 2019 and apple announced a phone that cost 750 and can’t display a 1080 screen

Cost cutting measure to make sure that the XR doesn't compete with the Xs.

Because for your average consumer the specs aren't even a factor in their purchasing decision. Today the average consumer wats a larger screen for consuming media like Netflix, Hulu and gaming. The Xr is a consumer device with a large screen and a good point of entry cost, for an Apple Device (and still getting the latest Apple A12 for gaming)

the XR is going to sell like crazy. Nobody cares about the screen.
Yes it's going to sell likely crazy but I think it's incorrect that nobody cares about the screen. The thing is though the XR screen is as good as the iPhone 8 or 7 screen, which is good enough for most.
It’s not even 1080P. But for the internals it has, I think it’s fairly priced seeing as it’s an Apple branded phone. You can’t expect it to be cheap.
The Xr (and Max) has 22% more screen real estate than than the Xs.
Yet that phone will likely sell more than Samsung/pixel devices combined.
It is called trying to gain more market share, by trying to make a phone that will be more affordable to a larger segment of consumers who want to try Apple.
And it will probably outsell every phone on the market, so can you blame them?
Apple staggered the Xr release for a reason. It’s going to sell. I’m in camp that would consider it if it wasn’t for sub-1080 resolution.
At 750 they will miss that point. Affordable could be 500 or less, not 750.
You only spend that money if you plan on buying a flagship, whatever brand you like.
It will be a hot seller but only for Apple users not for entry people i think.
I mean, if you have a moto g6 that cost you 300, 750 is too much to try something new.
If you are looking for 750 bucks, people want a flagship not a cheap version. That is why i will wait another year. And Iphone 8 with ios 12 is good enough

They are already selling the 7/7+ to achieve that lower price point. The iPhone 7 sells at US$449, and performance is excellent with iOS 12. If you're a Plus-sized individual, the 7+ goes for $569.
In contrast, the Xr is decidedly upmarket. It's not exactly flagship, but it's close, considering it has all the innards of the Xs Max, except the telephoto lens. As for the screen, it's not as good as the Max, but it's exactly the same pixel density as your iPhone 8. Identical. If you like the 8 screen, then you'll like the Xr screen, because everything will look the same as the 8. No, it's not as good as the Xs Max screen, but as you say, the 8 with iOS 12 is good enough, and thus the Xr with even better specs internally will also be good enough for the masses.
Yes, the Xr is missing 3D Touch, but this feature is one that most people don't use. Some like it, but neither my wife nor I use it. I tried for like 3 months and finally gave up and now have it turned off permanently.
Due to price and the fact the Xr is almost as feature rich as the Xs Max. Basically it's the more practical version of the Max, with an lower spec screen, but one that is good enough for the most people.
Screen real estate as I define it (although I don't know if you're using the same definition).
The Xr and Max show the exact same amount of information on screen, but the Xr's screen is a little bit smaller, so all screen elements will be a bit smaller on the Xr than the Max. IOW, the Xr and Xs Max are in the "large" screen category for the 2018 models.
In contrast, the Xs is a smaller screen which shows significantly less data on screen. The Xr and Xs Max both show 22% more data on screen than the Xs.
In terms of actual measured size of the of the screens, the Xs is about 12.8 sq. in., the Xr is about 14.2 sq. in, and the Xs Max is about 16 sq. in. (but remember that the Xr and Xs Max show the same amount of data on screen).
And this has exactly what to do with the screen resolution of the two phones? The complaint of this thread is that the XR has a lower PPI than what the OP expects for a phone of its price. If you care about such things, buy an XS. Simple.

I think this thread and other threads illustrate the confusion about the Xr's screen. Some people complain about the Xr's "low resolution" screen, but some of the same people happily use an iPhone 8 screen.
This is bizarre, considering the the Xr screen should look exactly the same as the iPhone 8 screen.
Furthermore, the iPhone 8 debuted at $699. The Xr screen is much bigger and the Xr debuted at $749.
