I have a 6s and a friend has a 6 Plus. When I compared our phones, I could tell that his display was a bit more crisp than mine, so I understand the criticism that the XR has only 326 ppi and should have 401 ppi. I like the display of my 6s fine, but, sure, I'd rather have 401 ppi if I could. Still, it's not a big issue.

And, sure, I'd love to have an XS or XS Max, but 64GB is too little storage for me, and I refuse to part with $1150 for the 256GB model or even more for the XS Max. I have other financial priorities.

So I'm back to the XR. The display is a small annoyance, but when I'm checking the news or weather, listening to music or a podcast, texting or writing an email, I really don't think about it. I can buy a 128GB XR for $799, and its camera may top the X in areas where only one lens matters thanks to having, from what I've seen and read. The XR has the same A12 chip that the XS and XS Max have.

No, the display won't be as dazzling, but the primary reasons I've stayed with iPhones are that Apple has great customer service, the phones are quality and last, they get timely iOS updates, and, most importantly, they nicely integrate with my 10.5" iPad Pro and my still-going-strong mid-2012 retina 15" MBP. Is the XR priced too high? Probably, just as the XS and XS Max are, too, in my opinion.
Yup.

In Canada, the 128 GB Xr is CAD$1099. After tax that is $1242. The 256 GB Max is $1729. After tax that is $1954.

Thats a 57% premium! IOW, over $700 more. Wow. Not worth it for features my wife won't use or notice anyway.

BTW, while the 128 GB Xr isn't exactly cheap, it's actually cheaper than what I paid for the 128 GB 7 Plus.

Nothing wrong with near 720p on a <=6" display. What is wrong is the pricing when, for example, $50 Huawei Ascend XT2 has great 720p 5.5" display. Is it worth paying 15x more for the Xr? For the naive consumer perhaps but not for the smart consumer.

There are other metrics to displays, your only focusing on one.

Are you claiming your pay 15x more for the just the revolution of the display? That’s a rather ridiculous assertion

Are you saying iPhone users are suckers? It looks like they are. They are buying inferior products while paying top dollar.

I think your getting confused between samsung and iPhones.

Samsung offers an inferior product compared to the xr.

As displayed on-screen, to my eye, they look quite similar actually. However, if you zoom in (by clicking on the picture), yes you can see improvements in the text clarity on the Plus (on the right). The easiest place to notice this is in the letter "w" in the word "power" in black below the number "70,000". Compare that to the "w" in the word "were" below "Ottawa". Whether you notice this or not depends on your eyesight and how close you hold the phone to your eyes.

The 8 here (on the left) should look identical to an Xr in terms of text quality, so that should give you an idea of the quality of text on the Xr.
