I guess I'm not following you ....

If someone bought the 3G at 199 or 299 - they're eligible for an upgrade before purchasers of other subsidized smart phones? Is that what you're saying?

The original iPhone was unique in that it wasn't subsidized; leaving people free to get a subsidized phone whenever they wanted.

Yes, that's what I was getting at, since that was the case with the original iPhone.

Ahhh, I see where you're going now. No, I think it's more about contract tenure than subsidized pricing, but I obviously could be wrong. And, at launch, was the original iPhone not subsidized? I know it was $600, but I thought I remember seeing something like $800 for an unsubsidized one way back when...and then the price was reduced to $400, was it still not subsidized then either? (Not being a smartass or sarcastic, I'm actually asking, lol).

The original iPhone was never subsidized...it came in originally at a 699/799 price point, then was lowered a couple months later.

Essentially, since the original was never subsidized, att cant lock you into a contract since you're paying full price....since the 3g is subsidized, you can bet att will lock you in. the only way this wont happen is if apple negotiates with att and figures something out

Or the carriers were told to have the subsidy paid by the time the next iPhone came out, and then allow users to upgrade (i.e. spread the subsidy over a period less than the time from 2 iphone release (e.g. for O2 - July 2008 through to say July-August 2009). Or maybe we're in it for at least Nov/Dec - (17 months and upgrade on the 18th?)
Allowing multiple contracts, and then shuffling the not yet finished one would sort it out, but the carriers could get nasty. Hopefully Apple has enough of a reign on things to at least have the last word.

Huh...I was in a 2 year contract with the original iPhone, as I'm sure everyone else who bought one was, too...

i think he meant not keeping you in the contract in the sense that ATT felt like they should allow first gen iphone customers who didn't buy their phones subsidized to buy the 3G at the new customer (subsidized) price.

All I know is this.

The next iPhone is coming. Just a question of when. I'm patient though so, thats not an issue.

All I'm curious about is if 02 will let me upgrade to a new one but only is we see a 32GB model. Till then I will carry on waiting. =)

Do you have comprehension issues?

You said that you "didn't understand the question."

And he replied "Sure you don't", suggesting that you did realize what the original reply meant. This isn't profound stuff here, guy.

where did i say that i didn't understand the "sure you don't" reply? i said it was cryptic, not that i didn't understand it.

how ironic that you should lecture me on comprehension issues :D

After the major leaks there were for the new nano and iphone3G they probably employed a high end security consultant to snoop around in the background and identify potential leak sites.

Close them down and they will keep everything under wraps, which they have obviously done very effectively.

Expect more than you expect. I don't think its going to be just an OS upgrade.

The palm is serious competition so they will want to up the ante.

Apple also stated that the refresh time for the iPhone is summer. They're definitely going to release a new iPhone this summer. I'm 100% sure of it. How else are they going to add video recording to 3.0 (from the screenshots we saw a while back from 3.0 beta)?

im usually not one to comment on mock-ups....but i must admit, i think that second unibody mock-up is damn sexy

I love the Unibody mockup but the glossy back needs to disappear and it would be perfect. I hate, hate, hate, hate glossy plastic and all the greasy fingerprints. I really, really, really hope they go for a matte plastic this time.

agreed...the back should be the same look and feel of the black macbook, or the actual back of the aluminum iMac

hey look it happening again! lol

not even May yet.

honestly, i rather not see these spy shots because they can be very misleading. they could be fakes or pre-production models that will only get us excited and disappoint some.

let the anticipation build up for the June event.

Man I hope it looks JUST LIKE the iPad. Love that aluminum!
