I've finally got the funds, to get any of the the three MacBooks.

Now, I'm not concerned about this whole "OMGz th3rmal paste" issue, so seeing as price isn't an issue and I'm going to buy any of them stock so I can go into the store and walk out, no shipping wait, which one would you personally recommend?

I'm looking at the black one but if anybody can persuade me otherwise, then go ahead and try it :).

So which do you think I should get?

I voted White 2.0 Ghz. I just prefer the look of the white one over the black. I suppose the biggest advantage will be a couple of hundred dollars left in your pocket to spend on other goodies. :)

Voted 2Ghz.... Best to go with speed now as you cant upgrade that later.

Voted WHITE... Every PC laptop out there is black - so what's so frigging great about it

Besides cost difference you can put towards any of the following

Extra Ram
BT Keyboard & Mouse
Nice Bag to carry it around in
Therapy to get to solve the real questions - why am i so indecisive ;)

I just picked one up yesterday and im in love with it. Not literally... but you know what i mean. The black would be nice... but the price premium I believe, is just not worth it. Even with the stock configuration, its feels faster than my friends Dual 1.8 G5 with 2 gigs of ram. So I cant wait to get my 2 gigs and put them in here to see how it fares.
On the heat issue... I dont see what other people are talking about... it gets warm... but thats expected from a computer... and I would not say that it becomes unbearably warm.
IMO this is the best 1200 that I have ever spent. Worth every penny.

Extra RAM is a good idea, any ideas on where to get 2 512mb's for relatively cheap?

Already have a Targus bag that I've used since I had my old OLD HP Laptop - nice bag.

Depends where in the world you are. In the UK, scan.co.uk is a good cheap place.

White, i think the Black looks to dellish

Grrr your making me want a MacBook...NO i need to save for a iMac..no off to play around on Apple.com:D

I'm in NY in the US, so that's not really an option ;).

I wanted an iMac at first, but then the MacBook came out, trust me, get a MacBook ;).

1.83 version. More money left to max out RAM and HD, which is much more important for performance than the (10% or so slower) CPU...

...oh, and I have an external DVD burner (that I prefer to use both as a media player and burner)... no need for the internal Superdrive... :)

white. because black will get lost in your black inside knapsack... unless, you carry a lot of paper, then the white computer will get lost amongst your papers... oh and you have to dust the thing every so often because it will gradually turn speckled and who wants a speckled computer? (i guess you should dust things anyway...

i have a crappy sony vaio at the moment- just waiting to switch, and it is white and black... and the black bits get really dirty... just my experience...

oh and imagin the other stuff you can get with that extra money- extra ram, a bag, a new ipod and a game if you are thrifty!

oh and you can always spray paint it like they did in 'hackers'

Get the black one, very stylish. This is the first black notebook since the pismo!

BLACK. ;) :)

And go to www.ramseeker.com for RAM. :)

At Data Memory Systems, a pair of 512's are $96.

Thanks Matt, and thanks for the link (via chat) to that RAM, that's a good deal!

I think I'm gonna get Black, it's so damn sexy, and yeah there hasn't been a Black Apple laptop since the Pismo.

I voted for the white 2ghz also as that's the one I liked at the store yesterday. The black while very appealing, just didn't justify $150 bucks to me.

Good luck on the purchase!

I'd go for the 2 GHz white one. I agree with others why say the black one is sort of ugly... it would match my 19" Dell LCD perfectly, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing... :D

I voted for the white 2GHz. I like the classic Apple look of the white one and I think it's the best bang-for-your-buck purchase. I've played a lot with the new MacBooks in my local stores and I find that the black picks up fingerprints way too easily and shows scratches much more than the white one does.

Plus as a few others have said, you can take the $200 that you'd be saving by not buying the black one and get yourself some other stuff. For example, an external keyboard, a mighty mouse, a speaker system, more ram, an iPod nano, some software, an external hard drive for backups and media storage...The list goes on! :D Good luck with your choice!

I'd say black, but I don't like the matte finish to it, so go classic white and use the extra money to buy extras as already reccomended. :)

I would get the black one, naturally that is the one I purchased. I know it is at a premium, but who cares, you are young and have the money anyway. :p Personally I like getting new things and the White one just reminds me too much of the ibook. Not that that is a bad thing, but the black is baaaaad.

If you need a Superdrive, and the only advantage to a SD is burning DVDs (all other read/write speeds are equal with Combo), go for the 2.0. If not, the difference in processors is pretty negligible due to the bottleneck known as Frontside Bus Speed...

Actually the Combo writes CD-RW faster. :p
