I would get the middle spec model (White, 2.0GHz). You get the best of both worlds. You get the better color ;), the Superdrive, and the faster processor. While the hard drive isn't as big as the black one, you can always BTO that or add it in yourself afterwards (it's very easy to do :) )

Well I just ordered 2gb of RAM (2 x 1gb sticks), so that should be here by the time I go to the store and pickup the machine, I'm still leaning towards the black one, because the white looks dull to me, but the final color decision will be made in store and after asking multiple people what they think, and the 60gb vs 80gb doesn't matter, because I have a 160gb external that has all my data from my PB on it to restore on the MacBook.

Although I really think I'll end up coming home with a Black one.

Where did you order your ram from?

IMHO $200 does not make up for the meager 170mhz speed bump and a slow as sin (4x?!?!) dvd burner that doesnt even have dual layer.

low end for me. and max out the ram. fo sho.

and if i neEEEEEed to burn DVDs from this machine i can always get a 16x dual layer external for cheap down the line.

I'm glad the MacBook is finally here, but before rushing into the Apple Store to order one, a few questions.

First of all, am I right when assuming that the SuperDrive writes only single layer DVDs? (and CDs but that's not the point) So all dual layering will be up to my iMac? (But it does read dual layers, right?)

Second of all, has anyone seen any stamina or heat benchmarks between the 1,83GHz and 2,00GHz models? I'm more interested in the battery times than ultimate performance (especially with the iMac ready to back up), doesn't make much difference to me which one I order.

Im getting the BlackBook, I think it just looks like an awesome Pismo.

Either way you MUST (this is a MUST!) post pictures of it! And i mean a lot!

Since I bought a black one yesterday I had to vote for black. :D

I really had no intention of paying the extra $$$$ for the black one until I saw it and then I had a very hard time deciding.

Itasor, before you keep on passing that link around, there is a revised edition to that article original posted on that website it came from.

http://marklem.com/mlem/?p=12

I suggest you post that also if you are going to spread that other crap around.

That's good to hear, I hate to see defective Apple products.

I still say the white one though....I think it just looks nice. PCs are black...Macs should be white and aluminum. :p

You know, that's a really bad decision. Should one stay with the Apple white or go for the more proish Black, which then again looks like a Dell or ThinkPad... But then again the Apple logo looks better in the black model... Or...

I'm telling you, it's a way of driving a perfectly able customer mad and the sole reason there are two colors are that the waiting lines wouldn't be that gigantic when most are trying to decide which one :D

I voted for the White 2.0ghz, but I have been torn between whether i like the white or black more, but have yet to see either in person so maybe my vote for the color isn't as helpful as another's may be. Economically the white is better, so i went with that. For the money the 2.0ghz MacBook with some upgrades like larger HD and more RAM (if you need it) makes for one amazingly powerful and cheap machine.

Whatever you go with, congrats. :)

I voted for the White 1.8 because I 'm confident that as soon as something new comes out in about a year you're going to want it and sell this machine. Myabe you'll grow out of that but since that doesn't seem likely - the percentages you get back in general on re-selling from upgrades are low hence minimize the upgrades.

Good point. The 1.83 would be a great interim compy for those who just know they're going to jump on the Merom bandwagon when it first comes along. I've thought of putting off my 17" MBP purchase and getting a 1.83/2.0 white macbook instead, until merom comes out and its bugs are worked out. The MacBook would then become my wife's when I got the MBP. :) Hmmm...so many things to consider... :D

Today is the day, just gotta wait for the mother to return from work/dr appt, I got so excited I posted a topic on Apple Discussions asking for advice.

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=491560&tstart=0

I have a very strong feeling I'm going to be walking out with a Black 2Ghz. Also ITASOR I saw that link before, and then days later I saw the update posted by mlem and I do believe that was an isolated incident.

Oh baby!

I got me a Black MacBook, gimme a day with it and then I'll post my thoughts :D.

But I can say this, it's kickass so far.

Great choice, Larry! :) Congrats on the new machine. Looking forward to reading your thoughts.

I went for the white one, since most PCs are either black or grey and I'm still quite new to this whitishness which I like. Besides, I wear mostly black so it's nice to get some contrast :D

Went for the 2,0GHz model for one reason: SuperDrive. Burning DVDs on the go might not be very relevant, but the MacBook won't always be accompanied by my iMac, it just might have to make it as a stand-alone during it's life.

Otherwise the 1,83GHz would have been sufficient, especially when I suspect there might be less heat issues (not significantly perhaps) and a bit better battery life when compared to the 2,0GHz. (Just a hunch, no facts)
