Not sure exactly why some redeem as SD. I've only bought 2 flixster glitches but both redeemed in HD.

Thinking the buyer maybe just mistaked it for HD. Most listings I see specify either SD or HD.

I think it's only Warner and Lionsgate movies that have the glitch. Also some tv series.

Actually he sent me a picture of the Blu-ray slip and it definitely listed HD. It turns out there is some glitch when redeeming the movies on Flixster because others had this same problem. I emailed WB and they added the HD version to my account. Took less than a day so I'm pleasantly surprised.

The odd thing is that now I have doubles of each movie in my UV library. One that is "SD, HD" and one that is just "SD." The OCD part of me is going to delete the SD copies since the HD version already includes SD, but is there any way I can just gift the SD version to a friend?

I ended up doing the same thing with a copy of the Lego Movie. Had an old SD only version then bought the HD code. I removed the SD from my library because Vudu listed it twice and we kept picking the wrong one. Kind of scary how easy it is to "delete" a UV copy.

As far as I know there is no way to transfer movies. The only thing transfer "via merge" is your whole UV library.

BTW - on the Blu-ray forums....how do you find anything? I find it very hard to locate anything, especially when most things are for selling the actual disc. And I notice they don't like Paypal F&F? Do people really not do F&F on there?

I stick to the two main threads that are stickied, UV & DC (Non-Disney) and the Disney thread.

Also, sellers are NOT allowed to specifically request/advertise F&F since technically it is illegal and since Blu-ray.com is such a huge website, I guess they don't want to open themselves up to any trouble.

I generally just send F&F anyway since I'm used to it and to throw the seller a bone. And if I'm buying a single movie for a few bucks, I'll ask if they'll cut the price by 50 cents if I send through F&F. No one ever declined me.

How big are the files? Can you rip any blue-ray disc?
Yes, you can rip almost any disc.
So far my rips range from 15 - 35GB.
After encoding, the range is 1.5 - 15GB.
Animated movies are at the smaller end, while older, live movies are at the larger end.

Animated Cinderella is one of my smallest, while Mary Poppins is one of the largest.

I'm using a 6TB external drive.

The iOS app 'cheap charts' is great for sorting (and alerting) all iTunes sale prices. i check the movies section on the app daily.

Thanks for this app. Just what I needed. I think I've hit the limit of all the older iTunes HD codes I'm going to buy. Everything from now on will be new releases and movies actually bought on iTunes.

Hey guys I just found an awesome deal for those who use iTunes gift cards to buy movies especially since Apple will be having some great deals coming up for the holidays, $25 for $10. Use promo code SAVE10 on the Raise app during check out. You get an additional $5 credit if you use my link to sign up which would make $15 in savings. They have other gift cards too but maybe you guys would be interested in this deal.

Here’s $5 to get started!

Don't know if referring links is allowed? If it isn't can someone let me know so I can remove post

I think I'm beginning to understand why some members here are so adamant about having iTunes copies. I redeemed an HD code for The Hobbit Trilogy through Flixster and it redeemed in SD. I emailed WB about it and Flixster fixed it to HD but then I had duplicates of each movie.

I removed the duplicates from my UV account which I thought fixed the problem. On the Flixster website, the duplicates have also been removed. But on my iPhone and iPad apps, the duplicates remain and there is no way to remove the duplicates from Flixster because technically the duplicates don't exist. There must be some back-end bug where the app still sees my dupes. The worst part is the duplicate doesn't have cover art but a generic gray cover template.

Even more incredulous is that my Vudu account doesn't see the Hobbit Trilogy after the HD conversion. I used to see the SD versions on my Vudu account before the HD conversion. I can't even watch the SD versions on Vudu because I deleted them from UV.

Long story short, if I want to watch The Hobbit Trilogy, I have to use the Flixster app although I prefer using Vudu for my UV collection. The Flixster app through my Samsung Smart TV only has the first two movies of the trilogy even though my website account and iPad app has all 3.

That's just the nature of Flixster. You have to be REALLY careful with what you are redeeming I have found. Yes you can save some money, but the seller has to be trusted and even then things can mess up. I typically won't buy any Flixster codes for movies over a few bucks......not worth the risk to me.

I also have the same issue with the Lego Movie SD I removed from UV. Flixster still shows the grey cover box. I think Flixster in general is crap for redeeming.

The UV world isn't quite as polished as iTunes, but it's much larger. And definitely not friendly to the Apple only user. Once you realize there is more than just Apple and Apple devices, the world does open up quite a bit.

You can find the Hobbit Trilogy Extended for around $12-15 and it redeems full HDX on Vudu.

Exactly that. Honestly, with iTunes you know what your'e getting and you know there's no conversions or extra app to deal with. It's all on your Apple TV/iphone/ipad/computer with no hassle. It's interesting to me when people (not you, in general) talk smack about the walled garden/eco system and I get their point at times but, not having to deal with playback issues and one stop shopping and things that just work is way more important to me than most anything.

Get them all in iTunes and you never have to worry about duplicates again. ;)

And that's exactly what Apple bets on.....the good old "It just works" tagline. Again it's like most Apple stuff when you stay all Apple - they control the end to end experience. Put Microsoft Office on a Mac and you get a crappy experience. Same with Vudu/Flixster on iOS.

It's once you get off of the Apple device you start to see that generally things also just work on the other side. I haven't had any issues with the Vudu app on things like Roku/Tivo/Xbox. Not as polished as Apple, but when I'm 2hrs into the Hobbit I'm not thinking about the icon I clicked to watch the movie.

Awesome option if you want to spend retail for it.

Oh great, so you also have the grey cover art problem too. Guess there is ZERO hope for this being fixed. I got The Hobbit Trilogy Extended for less than $12 but can't even show it on my Vudu account as part of my collection, for some reason I can only access it through Flixster. I'm just gonna count my losses since I paid under $4 a piece for these and just consider them "rentals" when I watch them. Might have to re-buy these on iTunes if they ever have a sale.

Obviously there will be some where I'll have to pay retail (Iron Man/Harry Potter), but I'm at the point where I'll be happy to wait for the films to reach blu-ray and buy the code then.

Yes, only on the Flixster iOS app though. Not on the site. And the dup title is gone from Vudu. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the Flixster app and that usually fixes it for a while. But it always comes back.

Are the Hobbit movies shown as HD in your UV account? If so, you should be able to contact Vudu and get them to fix it on their end. If they are not HD in your UV account then I'm guessing Flixster just gave you Flixster copies if that is even possible (can't imagine how since Flixster just redeems UV titles, they don't sell anything).

I always get the seller to confirm that a Flixster code is HD and will port back to Vudu. Only done a few codes like this, and some sellers have actually given me the code first since they were so cheap they wanted to make sure it worked. Guess that's really where it got the Flixster glitch name.

Nice, you gave me a glimmer of hope. Emailed Vudu so we'll see what they come back with. Also noticed the cover art to my Dark Knight Rises on Vudu is different from the regular cover (definitely not as pretty as the iTunes cover). Wonder why they do things like that.

Vudu CS has typically been pretty good for me so hopefully they can get it straightened out.

I'm guessing the cover art comes from each service. I have different cover art on Vudu / UV / Flixster - all for the same movie. Guessing each stores their own art. That is one benefit to downloading iTunes - you can change the local cover art if you want to. I've also ran into local iTunes cover art being corrupted from the iTunes store on the new ATV4. Very weird. But you don't get iTunes extras from local files on the ATV - so you end up with the stock art from the store.

I'm also going to start looking in to the Vudu sharing for some family - as most don't have any digital movies. Since DMA doesn't share I'll probably just log my parents Tivo's into my account. Nice that they even let you share.

The digital copy environment is beyond frustrating right now. I truly wish UV would do what Disney has done with DMA. A master catalog of titles that simply links to whoever your preferred ecosystem is. Probably the best ecosystem management available. You can even leave your catalog to someone else by unlinking your account and linking the DMA account to theirs. What's better is the entire catalog becomes permanent to the new user so you could link to one kids account then link to another kid six months later passing on your entire collection.

This is one of the problems with the digital copy environment. I figured out the conversion cost for all of our titles to go all iTunes or all UV. To get in iTunes what digital copies we have in UV/Vudu it would be about $2k to duplicate the catalog. There are fewer titles, about 60/40 favoring iTunes, but the cost is $12-19 per movie. Because we built the catalog from digital copy I could do disk to digital with Vudu for about 90% of the catalog, this would also be about $2k when you throw in the versions that aren't available in disc to digital. Either way, that's a good chunk of change to line up into a single ecosystem at this stage.

That is/was the thought behind Ultraviolet. Your UV rights to a movie live in your UV library. You can then access that movie in any provider that works with UV. Right now the big names on that list are basically Vudu, Flixster, CinemaNow, M-GO. You can link to any of these providers. You can even merge your UV library and give it to someone else if you wanted.

All these providers obviously pale in comparison to iTunes/Google/Microsoft and Amazon. I don't think we'll ever see the day where they join UV. Too much to lose by having people not locked into their ecosystem.

Disney did do it right, and it's awesome. But this is directly from a studio....a studio that didn't want to be part of UV so they did their own thing. The other studios all chose UV.

I agree with you on the frustration. Wish all the studios would allow you to own the movie - and be able to access it wherever. I just don't think that's ever going to happen sadly.

except where the part where the OP told you it didn't. You haven't had any issues, I have, so has the OP... That doesn't either one of us wrong. I just can't be bothered to trouble shoot simple things like watching a movie when I want.

"Awesome option if you want to spend retail for it."
It's like you didn't read any of this thread....it was to show people you don't have to pay retail. My last 8 movies were purchased under 20 bucks for the lot. I'd hardly call that retail.

I bought all the iron mans for less that 1 dvd cost on the blu-ray site. But then again, if you want the disc, you should check out the bluray forum where they will ship it you.

It might just take a while to show up. The other day I redeemed the old Batman Tv series on Vudu, it didn't show as being UV, so it didn't port to the other services. About 4 or more days later I noticed it no had the UV symbol on it in Vudu, and was now also showing up in Flickster.

Yeah I've had problems - that's why I said "generally". I've had plenty of problems in iTunes as well - duplicate movies, buffering issues, etc. There is no service that just works all the time. For me maybe I've been lucky that the Vudu Tivo client has worked well for me. In the end if I was really uptight and concerned I wouldn't be buying digital.

And for my comment on buying retail - I'm talking about the codes that aren't available for iTunes. If you want an iTunes version best you'll get is 20-25% off if you get Paypal codes unless they have a sale. There are more and more movies that are hard to find iTunes codes for. Plus you can't beat d2d for stocking up on older titles.
