I've got Ant-Man coming in Steelbook via the US so I'll have my own code for that.

MI on the other hand, will be slightly trickier as I bought Ghost Protocol this morning for $1.75 so I'm going to have to hunt around for the others.
Don't get mad again but I got the Quadrilogy on UV for free due to a glitch a few months ago. :)

Did you get Ghost Protocol on UV or iTunes? I want MI:5 on iTunes for some reason but the fact that I have the other four on UV means I don't want to split up my series.

Anything UV I'm not interested in. Can't be dealing with glitches - sounds like more hassle than it's worth.

I got it for iTunes.

Is there a difference between redeeming a UV on Flixster vs anywhere else? I often see this "Flixster glitch" but don't know exactly what it means.

To people collecting Marvel movies: Does anyone know if the iTunes copy of Guardians of the Galaxy has an aspect ratio that switches to the taller IMAX version during the selected scenes that were filmed that way? It should be easy to tell as soon as the opening title sequence.

I've been recently disappointed that 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Interstellar' do not do this (and yet, 'The Dark Knight' does), so for me, bluray is the best way to go for those two movies. But Guardians is from a different studio so I don't know what to expect.
Other recent Marvel films might have had some scenes shot in IMAX, too(?), but Guardians of the Galaxy is the only one I know for sure.
No. Only the Blu-ray 3D version of Guardians of the Galaxy has an alternating aspect ratio. The regular Blu-ray and digital versions do not.

Don't discount UV if you can get something with a Vudu client (fingers crossed it comes to ATV). Selection is much better for movies. And like @ECJ mentioned - with buying Vudu credits (usually at 50% off) you can get some awesome deals. Also remember Vudu credits redeem for disc-to-digital. So instead of $1 per movie it closer to $.50 cents per movie.

I'm a bit addicted - up to 144 UV titles (not including DMA) since I started!!

If your UV account is connected to both Flixster and Vudu, most movies redeemed port to either. The Flixster glitch is where a full code (usually Warner Bros and Lionsgate and a lot of TV) is available on Vudu but it can also be redeemed again on Flixster (sometimes multiple times on Flixster). You can get some good deals this way - and with the right seller they will sometimes send the code first to make sure it works. You definitely don't want to take the glitch code and try to sell or give away - that'll get you banned ASAP.

I think this was sorta covered in the thread but is the below correct? I added to BHMRampage's info from the first page. I also added some movies in parentheses for familiarity.

Sony and Warner Bros are exclusively UV codes (Spider-Man, Man of Steel, Mad Max: Fury Road, Hobbit Trilogy)
Universal and Disney are UV and iTunes (Fast and Furious, Jurassic World, Marvel movies)
Fox is UV or iTunes - pick one or the other (X-Men, Planet of the Apes, Kingsman)
Paramount is UV and iTunes (The Gambler, Interstellar, TMNT, Terminator Genisys)

So is there no shot of ever getting Spider-Man or DC comics movie codes on iTunes to match my Marvel collection?

gotta just buy them on iTunes.

I could have picked up a free Mad Max Fury Road but I wanted it in iTunes and plunked down the $10 when it went on sale.

HOLD ON...The Paramount Movies you listed (if they are paramount, not too sure) are BOTH UV and iTunes. I know because I have seen people offer both away from the same code.

oh and Disney can be 2 iTunes or 2 UV (or 2 Amazon, etc) by way of using DC+. Basically you can redeem a Disney code on iTunes and another iTunes user can also get it. So, that makes them a little special. You have it correct that it is UV & iTunes but it could be both the same partner redemption.

*I also bought the Dark Knight Trilogy when it was $15-20 last Christmas. I already had 2 on bluray but figured the final one would be close enough to the iTunes Bundle price and I'd have all 3 on iTunes.

Correct.

Disney does *not* give UV codes. Disney's DMA can be linked to Vudu, but the movies are not UV and do not transfer to other UV providers. Universal does not always provide iTunes codes with smaller movies.

Watch out for deals on the iTunes store. They sometimes sell movies for $5-$10, or discounted bundles (for example, the Spiderman trilogy was on sale for $14.99 recently).

Yeah the bundles are good deals in respect of their standalone prices, but it is still much more expensive than codes. I just picked up The Hobbit Trilogy Extended Edition on UV for just $12. Even an iTunes sale would probably bring it to $30 since it retails for $50.

I used to be anal about these things but thankfully I'm okay supporting UV since it isn't a junk format, but rather a standard format. I have no faith in Google Play no matter how cheap the movies or shows might be.

Ahhhh you STINK :p I just picked that up as well but for $15. Still a great deal - it's $50 bucks on Vudu.

You do get a lot more flexibility with Vudu/UV - lots more devices to play stuff. Extras aren't nearly as nice as iTunes......but there are just so many things that will never have iTunes codes.

Thanks again @ECJ - since I found this thread my movie total count is at 255.

46 iTunes only
32 DMA
177 Vudu/UV

Yeah, but on the other hand you cannot download and then back up or move your movies to other devices, because the DRM only lets you play them on the device or computer where you downloaded them. To add insult to injury, the Vudu iOS app plays movies in SD resolution only, which is particularly painful if you e.g. connect an iPhone to a big TV in a hotel to watch a movie. You also cannot download them to a NAS or something and then stream them locally in case you don't have a sufficient Internet connection.

Flixster iOS app will download and stream in HD. Then Vudu app on Roku/Tivo/Smart TVs/Toasters will playback on TV.

Even with iTunes movies - you'd have to strip the DRM to make them truly playable without any kind of authentication. In the end, I'm not really worried about it. If I was I would still be buying CDs and BluRays.

Don't be too jealous. I redeemed it through Flixster and it redeemed in SD. Apparently this is some sort of glitch with The Hobbit EE Trilogy where it redeems in HD for Vudu but not Flixster. The seller is looking into it since another one of his buyers has the same problem.

Which begs me to ask, how does the Flixster glitch work? With a UV code, you can redeem once on Vudu and multiple times on Flixster? So if I theoretically buy a Blu-ray with UV code, I can claim through Vudu and sell the Flixster code multiple times therefore making all of my money back?

Not sure exactly why some redeem as SD. I've only bought 2 flixster glitches but both redeemed in HD.

Thinking the buyer maybe just mistaked it for HD. Most listings I see specify either SD or HD.

I think it's only Warner and Lionsgate movies that have the glitch. Also some tv series.

That's pretty much it summed up. It's hard sometimes to be only iTunes, or only the apps that are on AppleTV.

I started off buying codes, but now I've switched to just renting Blu-rays and ripping them. I got a 30 day Netflix trial for 3 discs at a time and just rip and send back the next day.

I get better quality than iTunes downloads, have a better selection, and don't have to worry about bandwidth issues from streaming.

I'll probably pay for another month to load up some more then just pay for a month every now and then to catch up on new releases, or get some redbox rentals.

What software program do u use to rip blu-ray movies? Would like to burn some of my movies that don't have codes.

I use MakeMKV to rip and then I re-encode to .m4v with HandBrake.
The ripping doesn't take too long but the encoding is CPU intensive and takes a while. I usually just queue several up and then encode overnight and while I'm at work.

I'm now at the point where the same codes are being sold and I've got pretty much what everyone is selling.

And until UV/Vudu get an app on the ATV that plays in HD, looks like I'm going to be buying gift cards for my purchases.

Just picked up Days of Future Past: The Rogue Cut for $4 on iTunes. Very, very happy with this one. I almost broke down and bought it a few months ago. Once Ant-Man and MI: Rogue Nation come out, I'm taking a break.

Cool thing about that one is it includes the theatrical version if you don't already have it.

Can you please say where you got Rogue Cut for that price? Hopefully a place that has more copies?

Sadly I didn't get it from an online store but from a member of the Blu-ray trading forums. As soon as I saw it on his trading list, I jumped on it.

Ah, thanks. I see it for $6.50 at the lowest. (I'm still using ultravioletcinema.com as a buying guide, if anyone knows of a different or better database of online shops…). It's still cheap, but right on that fine line of might as well get it on bluray.

I find online shops to be the most expensive, Google forums in the middle, and Blu-ray forums to be slightly cheaper. I'd recommend the BR forums since they have a feedback system similar to eBay so you can spot a good trader. I found a few X-Mens that sold for $3 and $3.50 but that was a few weeks ago and supply seems to be dwindling.
