Thanks to people on this forum I’ve now made a purchase of what will be my first Macbook. I was going to get the new Air M2 or even the Air M1 but as I will be doing photo editing and using it for work related purposes I got the 14” pro. Surprisingly in silver though and not space grey. I was dead set on space grey until I saw how beautiful the silver was in photos.
The better screen, nicer specs and more ports was the reason why I opted for this over anything else, plus I get 3 months of free Apple TV with John Lewis. Arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait !
I updated from a 2012 retina 15" MBP to a 16" M1 Max MBP, and the model/config you are getting is just an amazing laptop to use. I also went with Silver over Space Grey, as silver is very neutral.

Here a couple of useful photos of both colors and 14" vs 16" size comparison, and what the inside design looks like. Enjoy your 14" MBP when you get it. As you can see it's just one of the best model releases Apple has ever made inside and out. :)

Every few weeks or so I like to gently wipe down my keyboard and trackpad a little bit. Is it good for that too, or is it more just for the screen area?
It's universal and good for everything. It does the job well. The fabric is thick and heavy-duty. It also picks up all the dust and particles very easily.

Congrats and welcome to the MBP Club 😁 These are some awesome laptops, they remind me so much of the old TiBook G4

Enjoy that baby! Good choice on the 14" silver!
The mouse while yes, an ergonomics aberration & a joke to charge, is still way more efficient for heavy duty productivity than the trackpad.
The trackpad feels nice and that's it. The very few people I know who go for it instead, it's because of that, it "feels nicer" but completely admit less efficiency as a tradeoff. It is also uncomfortable to use for long periods. As with anything YMMV.

Looking at the photos I love both, but I’m glad I opted for the silver one. I was hell bent on getting space grey as my iPad Pro is space grey but I love the contrast of the keys and the silver. Plus it’s something different right

I'm still deliberating between the new MBA and what you have ordered. It's getting very hard to ignore the 14 inch M1 Macbook Pro at the moment because of the specials going on in the country I live in.
I guess it depends on what you’d like to use it for. If it’s on offer and you’d need the features the Pro has then I’d go with the one I’m getting. Mine is the 14” one. I originally wanted an M2 air then changed my mind to an M1 air and I was going to spec out the M1 air to the max which would have been cheaper than the Pro. While both machines would probably be great for what I do the MacBook Pro was just better because of the screen being much better, way more ports because I do photography as well and have large files to deal with so I can just slot my sd card in the machine ( although I can transfer images wirelessly so that’s no issue either but sometimes this takes longer as my device has to link up to my camera via Bluetooth and sometimes it doesn't connect )
Plus it’s got more power and I may need that extra power just in case the workload gets high. All in all I’d probably be good with all 3 machines really but the MacBook Pro is arguably the best option by a mile at the price point and I also love the aesthetics of it 😁

Thanks for your feedback. In many ways you're in a similar boat to me. I probably could live happily with either machine.

I need to see and feel the new MBA in the flesh first. But the PRO screen and resolution is way better and suit your line of work also.

For the spec I would want for the new MBA and the specials available on the pro the price difference is only $100 dollars. Which is swaying me back to the pro.

Decisions, decisions...

Woo Hoo! Congratulations on getting your first MacBook Pro. It's a beast. You'll instantly fall in love. It's such a beautiful machine. Last year, I got myself Macbook Pro in Silver color too. It definitely brings back the classic retro vibes. I bet you are extremely excited. I know I was!

Btw, I would highly encourage you to order an Apple Polishing Cloth. You have to make sure you keep it clean. Your MacBook Pro will appreciate it. :)

Have fun and see you around. 🙌✌️

The M1 Pro has been my first Pro also and it's blown me away. The screen is incredible and speakers are no slouch either. Fire up some 4k HDR videos and prepare to be impressed.

Enjoy! I switched entirely to Apple (laptop, TV, iPhone, iPad, AirPod, etc. probably 12 years ago and wouldn’t go back.

Magic Mouse is a weird choice cause MacBook trackpad offers so much more than what Magic Mouse could ever possibly offer. But the 14" MacBook Pro silver is a good one. Will be a solid machine for years to come, plus fingerprint is nearly unnoticeable during normal use.

Just arrived half an hour ago!. Everything so far is in perfect condition, I will open the box and take photos of the machine later as I have to go out for a little while. I don’t work for John Lewis and have no affiliation with them whatsoever but I have ordered tonnes of tech from them over the years and very expensive items including my Sony A90J TV from them this April and everything has always arrived perfectly! They also ship out these items with the courier DPD who are always great and I’ve never had issues with them although I don’t know if people have issues elsewhere.
I ordered my old IPad Pro a few years ago from Curry’s as it was the cheapest price of all the companies I checked and I think they used Parcelforce or some other courier and the box they put it in was flimsy as hell and looked like it had been thrown around and the exterior apple box that the product comes in was damaged on the corners but luckily the iPad was fine.
I emailed Curry’s about this with photos as evidence and they weren’t really bothered about it and said as long as the product was fine they couldn’t do anything about it. As the iPad was fine I left it at that and couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of arguing but I wouldn’t use them again. As you can see here, the box is in perfect condition and was wrapped up very well to protect it.

OP I'm with you on the Silver. I recently purchased an additional MBP and after owning Space Gray for years, I decided to get the silver version and I'm so glad I did. I like it so much I gave away my space gray airpods max and purchased the silver ones to match it. I'll most likely go silver with the next iPhone as well.
