Congrats! I have the 16” M1 Max, and it’s by far the best laptop I’ve ever used!

I usually prefer mice to touchpads, but Apple’s touchpads are my all time favorite pointing devices.
I tried the trackpad to start with, then tried the mouse and enjoyed using the trackpad more lol , but I’ll probably use the mouse for other things too

Please, do not encrypt it with File Vault, do create a good login password. I suggest a sentence, it's difficult to create a multi character password that's memorable so sentences have become quite popular eg. TwoPlusFiveis7 or 2ToTangoForTwo or even 2EasY4Me is still 8 characters has upper and lower case letters and 2 numerals. Avoid symbols, they can be problematic. A good login password will provide all the security you need for your device and a nonsense sentence is so much better than; your name, your birthday, 123456789 or mypassword all of which are incredibly common even today.

In general I’m not very good with trackpads and I always feel a lot more comfortable using a mouse rather than using the trackpad, it feels more accurate and natural for me. However I have heard good reviews about this trackpad so it’s mainly a backup just incase I don’t like using it
If you’ve never used the Apple trackpad you may be in for a surprise. I hated trackpads on MS based laptops but it’s a different game entirely on MacBooks.

Best Buy has the Pro 14 at $1699. I was really wanting M2 Air 16/512, but at $1699 I couldn't pass that up.

I had two $50 gift cards for recalled air friers that burn down your house and a $5 rewards, taxes were $105. So $1699 out the door.

I would recommend using filevault, as it the worst happens, and your laptop gets stolen at least you don't have to worry about your data and passwords being compromised.

There is not even a performance penalty to pay with M1/2 to use it.

Too late guys, I’m using filevault. I was told not to use it because it slows your machine down and isn’t necessary?
If filevault has made my machine slower I dread to think how fast it is without LOL. It’s operating supersonic right now and is perfect so I don’t think the filevault activation has altered anything

isn't it on regardless what you choose and the option not to use it is simply skipping the security aspect* of it?

Did you get the base model?

I’ve been using the Apple’s polishing cloth to clean my screen and it’s pretty effective. It’s good to have it along with your brand new MBP. It keeps the gorgeous screen clean and pristine. Just wash the cloth regularly because it attracts dusts and dirt quite easily.

Thanks bought one earlier this week for $1749 so you saved me $50 with price match. 😃

On the Apple silicon and T2 Intel computers the SSD is always encrypted. If you turn on FV you it uses your login password but if leave it off, it uses the Secure Enclave to encrypt based on an internal secret value that is paired to the SSD. All of the encryption is done in hardware so it doesn't slow down the machine at all.

Hmm, interesting to know. I have an Intel MBP, and turned File Vault on last week.
Thus far, it seems okay...
