***PLEASE BE AWARE THAT FIRMWARE 1.1.3 IS NOW OUT AND THAT THIS GUIDE WON'T WORK EXACTLY AS IT APPEARS HERE. I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO TAKE A PHONE CURRENTLY RUNNING 1.1.2 AND DOWNGRADE AND JAILBREAK BACK TO 1.1.2. AT THIS CURRENT TIME THERE IS NO JAILBREAK FOR 1.1.3 AS FAR AS I KNOW***

This guide is the result of me hashing through the many jailbreaking guides that were available immediately following the 1.1.2 release for dummies like me that upgraded their phone without thinking about it. :) I have simply taken the README file from Concieted Software and expanded on it to hopefully make an easier to follow guide.

*99.9% of the questions people ask are solved by reading the entire guide word for word. Please do so before starting and ask any questions BEFORE you start!*

* Please note, before you start this know what firmware you phone came with!!! If it came with 1.1.2 OTB then there is a really good chance (if not 100%) that you cannot unlock your phone. Please take time to research whether or not your phone can be successfully jailbroken and/or unlocked.

So, lets begin:
Conceited Software recently updated their package, so now the same procedures will work for Mac and Windows, and are easier to do! Here is what you will need for the procedure:

1) an iPhone, duh
2) conceited software's jailbreaking package
3) 1.1.1 ipsw
4) a wifi connection

These instructions are mostly from the README file from conceited software with my comments and clarifications thrown in.

** I cannot guaruntee this will work!!!!!!!! I was doing this on a phone originally activated with iTunes and being used with AT&T.

Lets get started...

Step 1 -> Downgrade to 1.1.1
*** NOTE: This guide does not guarantee it will work 100%. Also errors 1015 is expected at the end of the process. Continue reading to understand. ***

1. Download the 1.1.1 ipsw firmware file. If the downloaded file has the extension ".zip", please remove it and modify it to end up with a filename ending in _Restore.ipsw

2. Reboot your iPhone holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark) and continue to hold the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode. The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes if not started yet . ** For my phone I had to start with the phone unhooked from the computer, hold the power and home button, then when it went dark I let go of the power button (still holding the home button) and plugged it in.

3. Restore your iPhone by pressing and holding the ‘ctrl+Shift’ key on windows then clicking ‘restore’ and selecting the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier. The restore should go through and end with error 1015, THIS IS NORMAL. Click OK and close iTunes.

4. In order to kick the phone out of DFU mode (AKA recovery mode), start TouchFree by double-clicking "windows.bat"
on Windows or "jailbreak.jar" in OS X, then click the "Boot from Recovery" button.

The phone will restart and show the connect to itunes to activate screen.

Step 2 -> Activate
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I DID NOT DO STEP 2A THEREFORE I CANNOT OFFER ADVICE ON HOW TO DO THIS!!!!! SKIP THIS STEP IF YOU WERE ALREADY USING YOUR IPHONE WITH AT&T AND WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY. THIS IS EXACTLY COPIED AND PASTED FROM THE README FILE IN THE CONCEITED SOFTWARE PACKAGE.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2a: Jailbreak 1.1.1 on Unactivated iPhone
*** NOTE: If your phone has been activated through iTunes, you can proceed to step 2b. ***

1. enter *#307# press call, now use the back button on the top of your screen to remove *#307# ,
now enter 0 , press call, press answer, press hold, press decline. And you get to the contact
list. And thereafter every time you push the homebutton you just slide the "emergency call"
slide, then enter 0 , press call, press hold, press decline.

2. Push contacts, end call and you get called again, this time hit decline and you access one of
menus with favorites, you can edit contacts, do a test ride on keyboard, take photos etc.

3. Now edit a new contact and type in "prefs://11" as web-address and "http://jailbreakme.com" as
an additional URL.

4. When you tap "prefs://11" you can now select your favorite WiFi gateway.

5. Now press the home button and move the slider to the dial-pad.

6. Now you can go back to the contact list by Dialing 0, push call, then answer, then contacts,
then hit the "http://jailbreakme.com" web address you typed in.

7. Scroll down to the bottom, click "Install AppSnapp". Safari will exit and you'll return to your
springboard. Wait for the phone to reboot. You are now jailbroken. and are able to use
Installer.app.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2b -> Again, this is for a phone that was previously activated through iTunes and being used with AT&T

Let iTunes 'activate' you phone again. It will show "Set up as a new phone" or "Restore from a previous backup," if your phone has been previously synced to iTunes, either one is a valid option. A blue box will show "waiting for activation, this may take some time" but don't worry, it will not and should not activate.

Slide to unlock and you should be able to access all features of you phone except the phone and edge. Now, connect to your wifi and launch safari. Navigate to jailbreakme.com and install appsnapp (you can find the instructions for how to do that on the website if you have any questions)

Make sure appsnapp is installed successfully before proceeding

Step 3 -> Prepare for upgrade

Now you must prepare you phone to be upgraded to 1.1.2 with oktoprep

Launch installer and tap install -> Tweaks (1.1.1) -> OktoPrep -> install

When you get the confirmation stating something to the effect of "you are ready to upgrade" go on to step 4.

Step 4 -> Upgrade to 1.1.2

Connect you phone to your computer if it isn't currently connected, and launch itunes.

Click on your device and click UPDATE. If you click restore you will be right back where you started and will need to do this process over again.

Let the update go through. If you have a previously activated phone with AT&T iTunes should activate you phone and you should be able to make and receive calls (i.e. have a phone) and use edge again, however you will notice that installer is not there anymore. THAT IS NORMAL. Close iTunes again and get ready for the last step.

Step 5 -> Re-jailbreak

WARNING: If your iPhone is unactivated, it will be factory "hactivated" for you and YouTube enabled. If this is not desired behavior, activate your iPhone with iTunes before proceeding.

Open the file you downloaded from conceited software at the beginning and double click on the Windows.bat file. Let the file work its magic and you are done!!!

Now for one after note: This did not work for me the first time through! I got all the way to step five and then got errors from the Windows.bat file. I did the whole process again and it worked flawlessly. If you get errors along the way, just restore your phone and try again. Persistence pays off

Thanks goes to all the people out there who works so freaking hard making sure we can have all the fun we want with our iPhones. Thanks for all the hard work guys!!!!!

Also, if there is something that is not clear or that you think I could improve on with this procedure please PM me so I can edit it in. Hopefully this is easy enough to understand that we n00bs don't have to keep bugging the regulars :)

Thanks!

Thanks for that tutorial.. I'm going to try it out over the weekend..

But I have a couple questions before I start off with the Jailbreak.

I have the 1.1.2 UK iPhone that I got last weekend and its been activated through iTunes and I'm using it on an O2 iPhone tariff.

Do you know if your tutorial will work for me?

I understand the jailbreaking is completely different from unlocking, so, once I have succesfully jailbroken the iPhone, if I need to take it back to apple, can i simply do a restore in iTunes and will this take it back to the originial state where apple will not be able to tell if I have jailbroken it.

With future updates from apple, is there a chance that I may brick my iPhone? Or will I simply lose the jailbreak and then have to jailbreak again with the new method for the new update?

This still doesn't work 100%.

I would rather the dev teams work on breaking 1.1.2 properly than promote this workaround all the time now. Until then, I'm not going to risk this method.

I guess it could be a risky thing, but I messed with mine a lot and it didn't hurt it a bit. Also, I am not part of the dev team nor am I 'promoting' this. Its just that its worked for a lot of people, myself included, so its worth a shot for some.

Yup truly said and spoken. Some people can use this method or risk it. Anyways, the worst damage you can do is reversible by Restore if you follow this guide and don't mix guides up.

quick question

how long should the windows.bat take to do its "magic?" I have done it twice so far. First time with and error after double clicking the .bat file and the second time I waited 5-10 mins after double clicking it and the installer was never put back on the iphone. Thanks

The speed depends. My friend's took no more than 5 minutes.

should i notice anything?

third time so far trying this. just double clicked the .bat file. Should i notice anything happening in/on windows or one the phone while the "magic" happens? or does it just "happen" if it works this time?? again, thanks for the help/advice

If Windows.bat doesn't work use the Jailbreak.jar file in the 1.1.2 Conciented Software Jailbreak kit.

hmm ....

I thought jar files were only for mac operating systems. will try it though

I think they are. When you run the .bat file you should get a pop up that asks you to set up an ssh password and then click start. Then command prompt pops up and scrolls a whole bunch of stuff around for a while ('the magic') then it will say if it is done successfully or not.

At the end of my guide I put a note. The first time I tried this process when I got to the .bat file it DID NOT WORK. I went back to the very beginning and tried again, then it worked fine. Try that.

???

I know this is basicly blonde proff but.... Im still having trouble, for some reason i cant download a older version of iTunes like 7.4.2 it will start downloading but once it almost gets completed like 99% something pops up so fast i cant read it and then nothing? also i guess im blind but i cant find any 1.1.1 ispw. And when i checked iPhuc it says it dont work with 1.1.1 now only 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 and all the older versions. So what now? Should i just wait for somthing simillar to app.tapp where its download it run it and restore and bam your done. Or can some one help this retard?

Where are you downloading it from? Try here: http://filehippo.com/download_itunes/?3201

also i guess im blind but i cant find any 1.1.1 ispw.

I didn't put a link to that file in this guide because it is basically everywhere. Here it is: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...927.In76t/iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw

And when i checked iPhuc it says it dont work with 1.1.1 now only 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 and all the older versions.

You should be downloading iPHUC from here (for windows!): http://code.google.com/p/iphucwin32/
There are warnings but it worked fine for me as long as you are using the right version of itunes with the right MobileDevice folder (i.e. itunes version 7.4.2)

If you feel these instrucions are at all above your head, then you really need to remember that I cannot be held responsible for any damage you might do to your phone. While as far as I know the worst that could happen is you have to restore in iTunes back to 1.1.2, this still isn't for someone so new to computers that they don't even know how to use a command line interface, and almost not jailbreak method is, not even the point and click ones.

Good luck!

Thanks for ALL the help

GOT IT TO WORK!! The guide works perfectly I found out 2 days ago. It wasnt the guide or the downloaded files are even ME that was causing the problems. My laptop had a virus on it that wasnt allowing it to do its "magic" with the windows.bat file. my desktop is so full of stuff that it was getting bogged down by trying to run the processes. I backed up my laptop and restored it to an earlier backup date and it worked on the first try. Thanks again for all the help. The best minds on iPhones live at MacRumors!

Thanks

It worked great the first time I tried it... The only problem I had was using IPHUC... I used ibrickr to turn the phone back on and everything was smooth from there.... Thanks again and also to the Dev team for the hard work!!!

I had a rough time with iPHUC on my mac platform and some minor ones in windows. Again, as you've seen, persistence pays off!

Hi,

I've been reading through various threads about Jailbreaking the UK iPhone, most of which mention the ability to then use any O2 sim card.

I was wondering if anyone had tried (or had seen details elsewhere) of whether this also allows Tesco Mobile sims to be used?

As they are a sub-network of 02 I was hopeful that this might work.

Cheers
Stu.

You probably want to try searching these forums and others for the answer. Also, this isn't relevant to this thread, so if you do want to ask this question (after verifying it hasn't been asked and answered yet) you should start a separate thread.

While I appreciate the efforts to keep this post clearly visible, it is in fact against the rules to bump posts, and I really don't want this thread taken down because it keeps getting bumped. Thanks, but no thanks kind of thing.

Thanks
