iPhone 1.1.2 issue

One small question. At what step should I plug my SIM card in?

Another question: I finished step 3 and it seems like my iPhone can work now. Is it necessary to perform step 4 and 5 in order to use iPhone with full functionality? Or those 2 steps are just to upgrade from a usable 1.1.1 to a usable 1.1.2?

After all 5 steps, my iPhone seems to be working fine now. It has all the features: camera, iPod, Wifi... However, once I plug my SIM card in, it complains that my SIM is not approved for use. I've seen in the list of Install package a anySIM which allows iPhone to work with any SIMs. Is this the solution to my problem?

Are you trying to unlock or stay with AT&T? If you are just jailbreaking then you should have never taken your sim out. If you are unlocking I cannot help you as I have never unlocked a phone, but you should be able to search and find information on the forums.

To more directly address you question about steps 4 and 5, if you had had you sim card in and were reading word for word you would have seen why you must do steps 4 and 5.

Hi, thx for answering my questions. I bought the iPhone in the US and brought it back to VN to use it with another carrier. Is it called unlock or jailbreak? And what is the difference between the two?

Jailbrake is when you get the installer.app to get all the 3rd party applications and such while staying with at&t and unlocking is when you are switching the carrier.

Hi all,

Can anyone confirm that has jailbroken a latest 1.1.2 O2 UK iphone using this guide, that when you put a payg 02 UK sim in it that it will work ? I know that all UK phone come with the new 4.6 bootloader which makes them unlockable to other networks, but have read that it is possible to use a PAYG 02 sim !

Also I know by jailbreaking the phone it will let you install the third party apps, but do you need to do anything else to get a payg 02 sim to work or just pop it in and up pops the 02 logo...!

Sorry if this is a little off track. but I know that the iphone can be used on a payg sim without signing up to the 18month contract, just not sure if this is the correct method in order to achieve this.. If this is the correct procedure will it then be OK to upgrade back to the 1.1.2 and still use PAYG 02 ?

Many thanks in advance for any help/advice :D

Unlocking vs Jailbreak

Ok people let me clear things up a bit--->

1. Out of the Box (OTB) state iPhones with 1.1.2 firmware version CANNOT be unlocked using Software methods. You can however, use TURBOSIM by Bladox (StealthSIM also confirmed to work, other hardware methods available also).

2. Jailbreak is the action of installing 3rd Party applications only (like iBlackjack, Lights Off, Apollo IM, NES Emulator).

3. Unlocking requires a 3rd party software like anySIM or iPhone SimFree. These can be installed and runned once and iPhone is jailbroken. Unlocking is the action of releasing of your iPhone from the AT&T (US), O2 (UK), Orange (France) or T-Mobile (Germany) tether.

4. Only iPhone with firmware versions OTB 1.1.1 or earlier CAN BE unlocked.

** This is how things are for those who are confused. This guide is for JAILBREAKING only!!! **

if something goes wrong on the way...

hey guys... thanks for the clear instructions... i have a jailbroken phone myself but now i am trying to jailbreak my friend's phone (1.1.2) using these instructions and i'm scared that something might go wrong along the way... so what i wanna know is is it possible to do something so wrong that even itunes restore won't help?

meaning: no matter what goes wrong along the jailbreaking prep, will itunes restore put the phone back to original setting?

thanks

Hey, everyone.

I'm stuck on Step 2b (my phone has previously been activated by AT&T). I did all the steps before it correctly and I am connected to my home WiFi network, but Safari won't let me go to any websites. It always comes up with the error message "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server." So, therefore, I can't get to jailbreakme.com to install AppSnapp. I know it's not my wireless network's fault because I'm using it right now on my laptop to send this message and view other websites. Is this because of the new iTunes and iPhone updates that came out today? Please, any useful help will be much appreciated. Thanks for reading this! :)

UPDATE: I've inadvertently discovered the problem. I took out the SIM card to use it in my old phone until I could find a solution. After I did that, I did the "slide to unlock" and then it brought up jailbreakme.com, as I had left it on Safari when I was trying to connect earlier. However, nowhere in the instructions during Step 2b or before does it say I have to remove the SIM card. So, I'm wondering, will this be a problem throughout the instructions: figuring out when to remove or put in the SIM card?

Ahhhh nuts. I just realized, in the middle of this process, that I won't be able to upgrade to 1.1.2 to re-jailbreak because 1.1.3 just came out today! grrrrr

Does anyone know how I can continue this process? I just installed AppSnapp in the beginning of Step 2b. Am I just going to have to stick with 1.1.1 until there's a jailbreak method for 1.1.3, or what?

Alright, so now I'm just using my jailbroken phone with 1.1.1 but I can't use the phone part. My SIM isn't working with the phone. It's the SIM that came with my iPhone. I've had it since October and I just decided to jailbreak my phone. So how do I use my jailbroken iPhone with my already-activated AT&T SIM card? I tried AnySIM, but apparently you can use it for only new SIM cards. I'm at a dead end, folks, but I'm not worried. If I don't get an answer here, I'll just search around for something. I'm sure I'll find a solution. (Besides, I know how you people hate the newbie questions.) ;)

Once you downgrade to 1.1.1 and jailbreak you HAVE to upgrade back to 1.1.2 to be able to use the phone part. From what you have said, I believe you should be able to get the 1.1.2 .ipsw file from somewhere and just make sure you are upgrading to it. Unfortunately, however, I have no idea if that will actually work, and I am not about to mess up my phone trying it :D

On that note, this entire guide might be irrelevant now that 1.1.3 is out.

Yeah, I downloaded the 1.1.2 file after I found it on another thread here, but I can't afford to mess up my phone trying that either. I'll just have to wait for a 1.1.3 solution, I guess. Thanks for the quick response! :)

where to download jailbreak.jar file?

Hi, I know i'm a little late in the game but i've been on firmware 1.1.1 since i bought my iphone last year. I'm finally deciding to upgrade to 1.1.2/1.1.3. The only problem is that i can't find the jailbreak.jar file anywhere. It's no longer on the Conceited Software site (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/site/112jb.html).
I hope some one can help me out. It would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
