I haven't used the Mini 6 so forgive my ignorance on the situation.... but, how do you release a new version that doesn't 100% fix an issue like that? Just watching that YouTube video, I wouldn't have been able to take it on the 6 and even on the "improved" 7. That's bad.
People still bought the 6, so 🤷‍♂️

The fact that this is the thing we have to complain about is a testament to how good the iPad mini is otherwise.
I also complain about the new (since the 6) aspect ratio and button placement, and about the color choices.

What's not to like about the aspect ratio? I quite like it for reading in portrait. Button placement is a compromise due to the small size of the thing, for better or worse. And color is subjective - there's always black space gray, at least!

I find the aspect ratio too narrow compared to the old mini. It’s narrower than any other iPad. The home screen layout also hasn’t been optimized for it. I use larger font sizes, at which the lines have now become shorter than I’d like. In landscape orientation, the mini is now basically only good for gaming and video consumption, other apps don’t do too well with it. The old aspect ratio was more versatile for other applications. I don’t game on iPads, and don’t watch videos on the mini other than the random YouTube link.

They had to move the volume buttons due to the Pencil magnetic attachment, and they probably didn’t want to place them on the other long side because that’s where cases have their hinge. But the result is just horribly inconvenient IMO. It’s also bad enough that the iPhone and iPad have different volume button placement, and since the iPhone 6 also different power button placement, and now even the iPads aren’t consistent. That’s just bad for muscle memory when you switch between devices a lot.

I like a neutral silver or white, which is not available.

Maybe this has been spoken about already, but what confuses me is how this became a problem only with the mini 6 (and 7th generation to an extent). What about all other LCD iPads that have existed? Purely down to display orientation and display driver?

A bunch of other reviewers said it is fixed. Just like last time it'll probably be some units that have it while others dont. I only ever saw it on one unit on the 6s and I had about 20 units to look at (including my personal one). The only one I ever saw it on belonged to my buddy so it wasn't affecting each unit.

My guess is different parts from different suppliers.

Since the mini 6, they have less space in the bezel on the short sides, but still have the camera and charging port there. So it was likely more expedient to place the display controller on the long side, but that also means changing the refresh direction.

In addition, the narrower aspect ratio makes the effect more prominent in that direction. The narrower a display, the more slanted the lines become parallel to the short side.

Not really surprising. Since Apple admitted the Jelly Scrolling in the mini 6, Apple clearly new it was present and was a concern to some users. Then here come the Mini 7, and not a word from Apple about Jelly Scrolling. Of course it is still present, if Apple had fixed the Jelly Scrolling in the Mini 7 it would have be boldly proclaimed in the Mini 7 PR announcement.

Doesn't bother YOU. But it was the sole reason I returned my mini 6 day one back in 2021.
There was huge backlash against the OnePlus 5 when it came out, as they similarly rotated the display controller.

Clearly Apple didn't expect people to notice as they're too used to selling expensive mid tier hardware to simpletons, but they were wrong.

Not sure why that other guy was telling everyone they have no right to complain about products they buy either.

I didn’t even notice it on my mini 6, so I’m not worried about it for my personal use, sorry for who notice it, still this kind of attention is only reserved to Apple products.
As is proper.

One cannot extoll the virtues and superiority of Apple products at the same time as expecting Apple to be held to the same standards as their competitors. (well, technically they could, but they wouldn't be intellectually honest)

That is why I stopped buying anything other than entry level Apple products. Those, IMO, are the only true tech bargains. The higher up the product line (or storage capacity) one goes, the lower the cost-value. Again, IMO.

Just you wait. If this gets fixed, people will move on to other complaints like 60hz, not being OLED, and no M-series chip. One after the other.

You mean: consumers expressing their own opinions about competitively-expensive tech they buy instead of just loving whatever the seller chooses to serve and then defending the seller's decisions by calling out other consumers not also loving it exactly as served? Say it isn't so. ;)

The cheapest Dell Ultrasharp branded Monitor I can find is a 1080@120, 24" unit at Best Buy. Note that this thing costs $239.99 at the time of commenting. This is only a monitor - computer and peripherals to use it sold separately. You'll likely end up spending more than $499 making this thing usable. And you can't even take it anywhere once you've done all that!

How about we just look at tablets, then?

Lenovo Tab M11 is $179 and has a 90hz panel, which is nice! Except that it is a significantly larger device, and has a Helio G88 powering it. Also, hope you like Android 13 cause that's likely all you're gonna be seeing on it! That model has a lot in common with the more expensive Galaxy Tab A9+, but Samsung is a bit better when it comes to software at least.

You'll note I had to compare to larger tablets. That's because there's basically only one other competitor in the same size class as the Mini - the Kindle Fire 7. It's $80. The price tells you everything you need to know about it, you really do get what you pay for.

All this to say that, for $499, the iPad Mini 7 is a surprisingly good deal. iPhone 14 and 14+ are more expensive for a smaller screen, inferior chipset, and shorter battery life. Plus, no Apple Intelligence. I guess you get cell with those, so we can't be too harsh.

If you’re in a store, use this link to test the jelly scroll.. The “influencers” must be blind to say it’s “fixed”.

Relax. The consensus is that it's improved, not fixed. How much remains to be seen. Probably at least 50%.

So they didn’t really fix the jelly scrolling. More suspicion for me that apple will discontinue this product line some years down the line. iPod Touch just received a final spec bump to run iOS 9 and that was it.
Granted I’m not an iPad mini user, nor I will get one For myself, but still.

It's possible they made it "good enough I guess" .. or so it appears

So many Apple products feel in a weird limbo right now

They seem to be taking an incredible amount of time and effort simply to "switch to USB-C" on a variety of devices and actual meaningful updates that reflect true R&D and vision are ... just ... not happening.

I know Tim loves to squeeze the lemon for juice and all.. but c'mon Tim .. it's time for some NEW lemons here..

My iPad mini 5 has it. It’s just the jelly happens in landscape orientation instead of portrait. There were many threads about that here, like the mini 6 & 7 threads.
