I find it a little 'funny' that the people who bought their g5 machines a few days ago are firmly in the 'the intelimacs suck' camp - ok not suck but you know what i mean.

the truth is that you say you wouldnt swap it - the truth is that if it was offered to you on a plate, you would take the faster, newer model

"I love my old iMac even it gets outperformed massiv by a new model which has been launched 4 days later" -

I dont get that stuff aswell...
Yes apple has nice design maybe and the OSX is superb -BUT no need to be happy with all - it's primary a computer - 2nd you pay money for it!!

If you can get for $170 a massiv faster machine do it lol - thats economics - if i find a old imac 2.1 for under $1000 dollars i would buy it i think...

performance vs $$$$$$ - if u get punked by apple send em the old one back - because you will never get a reduction just because it's "old" -and get for money the better & faster system... IF IT'S NO WORKING send it back lol - i would get the 3 year apple care anyway...

Its the feeling that you just spent $1800 and your computer is now outdated. Yes, I know computers and technology are updated all the time, but 4 days later is way too soon.

I have been saying since the Intel announcement that I couldn't wait to get a new Intel Powerbook (before I know they gave it a new name), but now that the MacBooks are out and I am reading about some of the Intel MacBook/iMac shortcomings, I am gonna stick with my 15" Powerbook for a while longer.

I wouldn't call a brand new iMac G5 outdated by any means. Yes, Apple has released a 'new' iMac running on Intel, but break it down a bit.

1) It won't run VPC (a must for me)
2) I have read that most printers will not work on it
3) It will not dual boot WinXP (or any other OS for that matter)
4) It is not 64-bit (wasen't that the big 'thing' back when the G5 came out?)
5) Almost all non-apple software at this point must be run in Rosetta
6) No Firewire 800
7) No internal modem

Those are just what pops up off the top of my head. Is the Intel iMac really a computer that 'outdates' the G5 iMac? I don't think so.

Okay I don't get this with people sometimes. You buy this computer you have always been dreaming of and a few days later it has became a POS? Why do you want to return it? Is it slow? Does it not run well? I don't blame you for wanting Intel technology because PPC is so outdated, but I don't think it would be worth spending the re-stocking fee for it, unless you are doing some heavy-duty processing and if you are doing that you would have not picked an iMac in the first place.

I think that the restocking fee is so worth it for the new iMac. It is a ton faster. You will notice a HUGE difference. Especially with web browsing. Web browsing was so bad on Power PC. So an average user would benefit. You could always try to sell it on eBay. It's a long shot, but it might be worth a try. If you don't want to take that chance then just pay the restocking fee and save a little bit longer. I think you will really enjoy the new iMac a lot more.

This coming from a guy who in his own signature admits he doesn't own a Mac. He's also 13 ... not that there's anything wrong with precocity.

Can anyone confirm that I can return a product that I bought at a different Apple Store? Just really don't want to go on a 1 hour drive to get surprised I can't return my iMac at a different store that has the new model I want.

All stores around me have been saying they're sold out, and I finally got the Peabody store to hold one for me...

P.S. I hope this isn't worded too confusing.
