So yeah, I ordered the Samsung one as it's got a higher ppi screen ... Cheaper than the Gear 2 too. Anyone else going to take the plunge. Mine won't ship till 7/7/2014

Waiting for the Moto 360 before buying anything. However, this Samsung watch is now my second option. The LG watch looks to much like a 1980's Casio calculator watch that I happen to still own! And works!

Glad Samsung made it for any device

Yeah ...

Bringing Android to wearables
Android Wear extends the Android platform to wearables. The Samsung Gear Live is compatible with all phones running Android 4.3, Jelly Bean™ or higher, and all of your favourite Android apps will display notifications on the Samsung Gear Live.

The fact it doesn't have some of the other sensors the live has too. I'm hoping the live will work / integrate with things like my Jawbone Up & Fitbit Flex too.

This makes the Gear 2 a bad choice since it only works with selected Samsung phones.

Good that Samsung will support Android wear, if no 5.5 iphone it will the Note 4 and I nice Android watch to be cool

I have no interest in a watch so I wont be buying. I bet a couple years down the road these things will be pretty cool

Let alone justify €100 more for the Gear 2

Yes, I am very interested in the sensors and if things like the FitBit will play nice with Android Wear? FitBit has been very Android pro-active so if it is possible, I see it happening pretty quickly.

The heartrate monitor is the key to the Samsung watch for me and may move me to buy it over the 360. Just don't know yet.

I ordered the LG G Watch, I think I'll replace my Gear 2 with it. Thankfully I got a sick deal and only paid $225 for the Gear 2, because otherwise I'd lose a lot when I sell it. Samsung is getting on my nerves a bit lately by making everything you buy obsolete in 2-3 months. I know technology evolves, but the amount of products they churn out are going to eventually discourage some early adopters to snap their products up so quickly. Just my 2 cents.

Yep.. That's what pushed me over. Just download the app from play store on any android device, pair and sorted....

It was €199 on play store here which is same price here as Gear Fit.

it says on GPS 4.3 or higher is needed. for both wearables BTW. not only that, I checked using google compatible link on my tab 2 7.0 and its not supported running 4.2.2.

edit: I just saw your quote post my bad

you are the man!

yea 4.3 or higher for both watches

What happens if your cell phone plan doesnt allow tethering? Since it essentially tethers through bluetooth to download apps eh?

I've wanted this watch for the longest time. I wasn't even a watch person back then but loved the idea of a calculator you could wear.

Yes I am a bit of a dork.

I like to wear a watch and also appreciate the added functionality provided by a smartwatch. The problem so far is that functionality is still rather limited and the watches available have been lackluster in aesthetics. I think Android Wear offers the first compelling overall experience so I'm interested in checking it out but based on the designs so far, I'll only consider the Moto 360 or the Kairos.

In fact, I'd very much consider the price premium for the Kairos first as I find it a far more beautiful design and the hybrid mechanical/smartphone design is genius. Even better is that it will also be using Android Wear.

All of that being said, it's all rather a moot point for me right now as I don't have any immediate or near future plans to switch from iOS.

It doesn't require you to turn your device into a hotspot, so it doesn't matter if your carrier gives you Wi-Fi tethering on your plan or not. (Unless your carrier actually charges you for using Bluetooth in which case we need to get you to a new carrier PRONTO! ;) :) )

Anyways, I'm waiting to see what the Moto 360 has in store, otherwise I'll probably go for the Gear Live, though I heard it has poor battery life.

That's pretty wild. Isn't that breaking the tos of certain cell providers? That's awesome :p

Namely unlimited data people still can't tether

There have always been easy ways around these roadblocks the carriers use. Besides. No tethering clauses were used to fleece consumers of more money to use data they were already paying for! iPhone users were AT&Ts primary target audience. Another reason I hate u.s. carriers.

Add me to the list in just pre-ordering the Samsung Wear. Can't wait to get it and see what the note 4 has in store with it.

Bluetooth Pairing is not the same as tethering a data connection.

The watch has no independent functions it can use with a data connection. Every single app on the phone is completely dependent on that same app installed on the phone. It's basically like using AirPlay with an Apple TV. The watch isn't doing anything independent with a data connection.
