Will people have to pay for this Micro job? F that!! Why the hell would I pay MORE money a month to get a better signal in my home.....when I can switch to Sprint or VZW and get service juuuuust fine!

You said your MicroCell is plugged directly into your modem?? If so Turn Off your MicroCell, UnPlug your Airport from your MicroCell, then un plug your modem. Wait about 1 minute. Then plug in your modem, wait until the online light is solid, then plug in your MicroCell, then your AirPort, and see if you can activate then. Hope this helps.. :)

You can contact me personally at mbsaeger@me.com

Ive done this, along with a hundred other things. No dice. I think its a programming issue on their end. I have a GPS lock, internet service, etc. They sent me an external GPS antenna but thats not the problem. It sits on the window sill. Its waiting for the activation signal but not getting it. On the trial website its listed as "pre-activated" and I cant do anything about it.

(its just been a bad week. sending my macbook into applecare today too to fix a bum fan :/)

Ok, I went to the microcell activation site again, this time my microcell was not registered yet. I guess they must have deleted it. I set it up again, got the "20 minutes you will get a confirmation" message. Crossing fingers.....

It Works!!! Woohoo!!!

Got the confirmation email, a few seconds later I got full service!! finally!! Man im glad i got this thing.

As far as pricing, I heard that its expensive. like 300 bucks. i dont see how they can charge that, then a monthly charge as much as 30/mo. In my situation, I could care less, I dont have a home service (that would cost the same anyways) so this is the best solution. I get 25% off my bill anyways so even if it was 30 a month, i dont care.

Bottom line is, if you want a service, you pay for a service. You dont want it, you dont buy it. You want to sit in a smoky restaurant, you do. You dont, they dont get your money. You think its worth it, you get it. You dont, you come to a internet forum and cry life isnt fair :p Its the basis of free market capitalism.

In the meantime, drool :D

My 3G Cell

I just got mine on Wednesday. After a few calls to tech support, it's up and working.

I tool completed a survey and then they asked me to participate. Full bars...and 3G service.

But, if your number isn't registered on the microcell, it will block out others' 3G service unless you add them to your trusted number site.

I have to complete two surveys, then at the end of the trial, I get to keep the box and $100!

So, I take it you had activation problems also, as I did?

This is what I've heard, I'm wondering about 3G service on other carriers? I know only AT&T can be used with the unit.

Me too. Are you in Charlotte?

$300 for the device and then $30 a month? LOL - No thanks. I thought this thing would be good. It appears to be good and do what it's suppose to, however the price, no way. Absolutely absurd.

I really believe the extra money a month is ONLY if you want unlimited minutes. If you want to continue to use the minutes that are included in your current plan, I can't imagine they would charge for that.

That would make sense. Especially since there are 2 different levels of pricing. One for single line plans and one for multi lines. At first I could not figure out why they would do that when the device can support up to 5 phones. Why not a set fee, why a 2 tier setup?

Then your post came along. If that is the case, it would be much better and I would be happy doing that and paying for the device outright. Much more sense. Unlimited would incur an extra monthly fee. What you have already, would not. Just the cost of the device. Most everyone I talk to would be under the M2M umbrella and won't cost me any minutes. That and my nights and weekends as well.

Wish there was a rating system - I would rate you up Bryan :D

Exactly. I'm surprised it doesn't come with a built-in terminal where you have to swipe your credit card.

No crap! No way i'd pay more on top of cell service because ATT fails to get service where I dwell.

then go to Sprint or VZW. No one is forcing you to use ATT Microcell or ATT period. No cell company gives 100% of the US perfect coverage. If ATT is poor in you area, switch...

Sprint charges up to $25/month (+taxes) and $100 up front for their AIRAVE and VZW charges $250 up front for their network extender but no monthly fee.

ATT will somehow follow suite but the whole idea of charging a monthly fee is kind of bunk since you are using your own DSL/Cable internet that you are paying for

That is hilarious! :p

:)

Of course, we are talking about AT&T here. So, I wouldn't fall out of my chair if I was completely wrong.

I think you are close, if not spot on. It just makes sense.

New ATT customer here, but what is this Micro Cell and why is it going to be sold?

It's like a cell tower for your home. It blankets your home in cell goodness. 5,000 sq ft of it. Hooks up to your broadband connection.

hehehe this reminds me of something. When I first got my iPhone I lived in Yukon which is down I-40 west of OKC and there I would average 1-3 bars of edge service. When I moved to North OKC I got 5 full bars of 3G in my house of all things so I imagine it would be the same if I bought a MicroCell and used it at my old house.

Good thing I don't have to now but something like this would have really come in handy a year ago.

You're missing the point...I'd go with a company where I dont have to use ANY of these, regardless of the company. One of them are bound to have coverage in my area.

I think you are missing the point, which.....is his point? idk anyways…

AT&T realizes that coverage may not be available in every area. this is their way of offering a solution to these problems. this technology is not free, and it's not like they are purposely keeping their coverage spotty (competition would eat that up). so, for a fee, they are offering something to take care of this problem.

(and let me know when you find that company that gives you full coverage and unlimited minutes everywhere in the world for $19.95)

Understood, BUT if I am not an iPhone user....Why the F would I remain bound to ATT if I can not get coverage where I live unless I get that MCell? I wouldn't...I'd say heck, I can get this BB Bold(just picked a random phone) from Sprt, VZW, Alltel, etc and it WORKS at my home w/out any additional cost.
I see what they're offering, but it's no lube shafting...Hell, they should GIVE you that MCell just cause you're will to deal with no service at your home and other big 3 has it, if that's the case. Not too often you have a home that can receive highspeed internet and not get cell service. That lets you know they are not in some remote area in the middle of Montana.
I'm not knocking you...dont take it personal..I'm saying I should not have to pay them MORE just to acquire a signal.

If I really have to pay AT&T $300 up front AND THEN $15 on top of that per month in order to use a Micrcell, I'll just use less than half of that up front cost to pay my early termination fee with AT&T, and switch to another provider who I have service with at my house. I want my iPhone, but I could get over that pretty quickly if this is the cost. I could switch to an Android device to fill that void, I guess. But I'll wait until I hear something official from AT&T before I judge.

The 5000 sqft thing:
if you lived in an apartment, it would kill your neighbors' home reception?

That sucks for them.
