Something about giving a 3rd party my passwords just does not sit right with me. I rather just cut the middle man out. If I am using Apple, then might as well as let handle it as such.In my opinion it is enough. I certainly wouldn't want to pay a subscription fee for password management software.
I think i was thinking of 1pass.1blocker blocks ads, doesn't manage passwords.
There’s a free-and-open-source Al Dente alternative that I use and recommend. It doesn’t have the bells and whistles, but if you just want to do the most important part of putting a consistent limit on your battery charge (until the blessed day when Apple brings the iPhone 15’s battery system over to Mac), it does that well at the unbeatable price of free. https://github.com/actuallymentor/battery
Congrats on nearing the end of the grad school tunnel. As a fellow academic (so far): Keynote is far superior to PowerPoint, full stop; even diehard Word powerusers will tell you that Word will regularly mangle its own documents, so write your thesis in LaTeX; and if you’re using any spreadsheet app for data analysis—be it Excel, Numbers, or Sheets—you’re already doing it wrong. 😛
I use Apple News, but it is honestly a terrible experience. Even the paid version has ads, the search feature in it barely works, UX in general in it seems poorly designed to me. No ability to modify the sidebar other than adding favorites. (There's a sports section for example, I don't follow sports, but I cannot remove it from the sidebar.) The whole app feels like an afterthought.I have yet to find a need for Apple News...
I just enjoy reddit since it is both live (and i can see all word news) but i can also interact with people as well.I use Apple News, but it is honestly a terrible experience. I highly recommend AlDente Pro. It is only $25 and it works a heck of a lot better than Apple's built in feature and I also automatically calibrates the battery for you, which is a big plus over the Apple feature. . I also highly recommend Forklift, which is a Finder alternative. For uninstalling apps, I recommend TrashMe. It does an excellent job of finding and removing all the files of the app you want to remove from your Mac. If you like to download YouTube videos and videos from other places, Downie is an excellent app for that.
It's not a mandatory need but, it is something that will definitely help with extending the lifespan of your battery, especially if it will be plugged in most of the time.I just enjoy reddit since it is both live (and i can see all word news) but i can also interact with people as well.
Thanks for the youtube recommendation.
Honestly the battery life is something I am not too knowledgeable about. $25 is not really that terrible but is it also something a new Macos user needs at this moment?
You DO NOT need AlDente. Don't listen to those who tell you otherwise. Apple already has battery management software that works behind the scenes to charge/discharge your battery appropriately, depending on your use, to prolong the life of the battery. I use my MacBook Air plugged in nearly all the time, and I let Apple's native battery management take care of everything. Don't let people upsell you on something you don't need.I just enjoy reddit since it is both live (and i can see all word news) but i can also interact with people as well.

Nobody has said it was a requirement. It has been suggested along with other apps. And there is no need to capitalize words. People can read your post just find without the yelling. You DO NOT need AlDente. Don't listen to those who tell you otherwise. I will use anything but Microsoft.I hate it when people say this word.
You can find tens of reports on Bugzilla from me which are still open after half a decade. Like for example on Windows when you have a network printer and it's turned off, your LibreOffice Calc documents all take 30 seconds to 60 seconds to open.
I would rather pay for Excel than use that absolute garbage. It could be a good product but there isn't anyone left on the project who wants to make it one.

On Office packages, start at requirements. If you have to collaborate with other people then it's probably MS Office. If you can get away with mailing PDFs or work solo then Pages and Numbers are adequate. Actually Pages is pretty good once you get used to it.
I do a lot of document authoring and haven't used word for around 5 years now. It's all either Pages (mostly for writing letters) or LaTeX via MacTeX.
Edit: Word is a despicable turd, just a popular one. I have no idea how anyone puts more than 5-6 pages together without it spontaneously turning into a tyre fire.
good onePeople often mention that and linux etc but Any kind of business/collboration and it just falls flat (aside from servers). For basic average joe stuff, pages/numbers or even google docs is enough. The linux community is just so fragmented and no one can agree on anything, hence the need for 2,393,203 distros.
exactly! It has worked just fine and i refuse to use Microsoft anything. I don't want it spying on me in the background or OneDrive being installed...The charting in LibreOffice could be better, but otherwise it does all I need, actually more than I need.
Until Numbers and Pages support ODF they are not useful to me especially given the speed at which Apple obsoletes old versions.
If you just need it for passwords and just on Apple devices it’s totally enough. I use 1Password because I also store software licenses, secure notes with alarm codes and stuff and also I occasionally need it on non Apple devices. And the app is quite nice.In my opinion it is enough. I certainly wouldn't want to pay a subscription fee for password management software.
Just use it. Also jump full on into the Apple side of doing things: Pages, Numbers, KeynoteIt's a brand new m3 max so no worries there
is this in the store or something I would need to download online
What is this 1989?...sending files back and forth with others...
Congratulations! Masters nearly killed me. So, of course, I'm heading for the PhD."I deserve it for nearly completing Grad school"
Join MacRumors = CheckAnyway, what is the first thing I should do/install coming from Windows?
This. The amount of valuable info on the MacMost channel is amazing. If you can’t figure out how to do something or can’t find a feature that you think should be available on macOS this channel is a great place to start.OP I’m going to do a shameless plug for this YouTube channel. You should really check it out if this is your first time with Mac, you will learn a lot!

Blasphemy!I will use anything but Microsoft.
But what if I am considered an apple fangirl? Sike, idc.Just use it. Also jump full on into the Apple side of doing things: Pages, Numbers, Keynote
Thank you. Law school has been fun but i am ready for the next chapter of my lifeCongratulations! Masters nearly killed me. So, of course, I'm heading for the PhD.

I am still a Microsoft fangirl. Though I think since I actually loved Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 and liked 10, ever since I used 11...it really is what made me want to go mac because I dislike what 11 is(an enhanced 7 aka a regression imo) so it was time for something new.
