I got my Mid 2018 13" MacBook Pro Touch Bar.
Here are the specs: 2.7 GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD.
Ask me anything!
EDIT: If you want a benchmark, please tell me which tool you want me to use :)
Geekbench: https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/9034283 & https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/compute/2628316

Congratulations! :)

How's heat management? Does it throttle under load quickly and does it get hot? What about fan noise?

What did you replace with it exactly? A 15" but I'm not sure if it's a 2016 or 2017.

I was considering that config. Or maybe one down. I was looking at base CPU, 16GB, 1TB. I think you went up a CPU option as well. My config priced out to $2,599. I was on the fence about 13 v 15. Screen size v saving weight. When I looked at it the same 15” was $2,999. For $400 I would get 6 Core, larger screen, DDR4, and dGPU. Only downside would be additional 1LB in weight. The 15” just seems like a better value. Still have not ordered though.

Did it ruin your wallet?

ABSOLUTELY *tears without regrets*

A 13" Late 2016 Touch Bar 2.5 GHz i5, 16 GB RAM 512 GB SSD

I will answer your first question soon :)

I considered the 15" as well, but it came down to:
- 5-6 years ago, I moved from the 15 to 13 because it was too cumbersome for the classroom
- it is still too cumbersome for the classroom
- I would not benefit from the discrete GPU (that can consume more battery)
- the 15" has an inferior iGPU than the 13" because of the dedicated GPU (Intel Iris Plus 630 v Iris Pro 655).

My main question I really want to know is hot does the 13” model run? Does the case itself ever get hotter than that of your previous MacBook Pro?

Also, I’m jealous, but my wallet certainly isn’t jealous. Lol

13' has Iris 655 eGPU while 15' has Iris 630 eGPU
Does not the “e” of the eGPU stand for external? I think the intergrated GPU on the CPU package is abbreviated iGPU? I was confused by the original post also, because I read the comment as that there is a reduction of available PCI-e lanes in the 13 inch MBP relative to the 15 incher, over TB3 for eGPU usage.

The only thing keeping me from upgrading from my Mid 2015 15” is the lack of USB-A. How do you manage that?
I have already switched all my accessories to usb-c only. And I have one usb-c to usb-a adaptor in case I do need to use a legacy port. All in all I spent maybe $70-80 converting my accessories over to usb-c only.

If you don’t want to go that route you can buy a hub, but honestly if you plan on continuing to use Apple computers you’ll have to make the switch down the road anyways. And having all one connector type is really nice.

The only legacy item I still use is my SD cards, which I use the usb-c to SD card adapter for. Honestly #donglelife is not an issue anymore as there are many great hubs out there, as well as plenty of usb-c products now.

I figured. At this point all I use USB for is drives and backups anyway, and that could easily be replaced.

Does it get hot and do you hear the fan when playing 4K youtube videos?

What is the brand and model number of the wifi chip on your laptop?

I'm actually thinking about getting the exact same model just with 512GB SSD as I use external drives for photography / video files. Currently I'm on mid-2014 13" after having mid-2010 before so I think 4-year upgrade is just right for me. Which Macbook Pro have you been upgrading from? Any major differences so far? Thanks!
