Im afraid you aren't correct. Every single year people claim its intentional. And every single year, after a month or so, the good screens return. Apple has made no statement that the warmer screen is intentional, nor will they. That myth, along with the glue drying, gets floated every year to calm people down. Yet every year we are comparing warm screens to last years cool blue screens so how is that possible if every year a warm screen is intentional and "more correct"?

It's possible because after launch, the good screens return, and now we have something to compare next years yellow screens to.
This could even be related to the selfie flash business they started with the 6S.

Haha really though. Honestly I don't care about upgrading nearly as much as I used to. My 6+ actually works really well, I'd just want the better camera. This is actually the first iPhone where I haven't felt it become horribly slow or anything, even on iOS 10.
I'm in the same situation with my 6. It didn't have a single scratch even after the 2 years, until last week it slipped out of my damn pocket and fell on concrete. Now there's a bit of scuff on the lower right corner.

Smartest thread I have read all week. Kudos, OP. You actually posted stuff that matters to me. None of the whiny, superficial, OCD, ADHD, and self-entitled threads I read all week.

Besides, just return it. Let it weed out the bad batches during the early days of manufacturing. The iPhone 7/7+ will be on sale for the next three years! In 2-3 months, you might get a better price on it.

Early adopters = guinea pigs for beta testing...

Yeah man, I'm back on the 6S and couldn't be happier. It feels smoother and faster. The artificial lag introduced on the 7 when you return to the home screen is completely unnecessary and random. That one can be fixed in software though so maybe itll get better.
Wise choice, glad to hear that you are enjoying the change.

I believe that Apple's going to be sorting out the problems with the iPhone 7 as well as iOS 10 over the course of the year. Then they'll be ready to introduce a better iPhone 8 next year.

Thanks for the honest report about the problems with iPhone 7, you've confirmed that those like myself that have stayed with the 6S have truly saved the time, money and headaches that iPhone 7 buyers are experiencing.

Cheers... :D

Yes Indeed Thanks to the OP!

Hey, contact me in 2-3 months when you finally get your iphone 7 and i'll bet you 500 bucks my launch day 7 is no worse than yours. We can compare them side by side in person even. Lets show macrumors some definitive answers on this shizit.

It's bizarre juvenile comments like this that tarnishes the image of Apple customers.

To be fair: Anyone who upgrades phones year after year, always wanting the latest and greatest, and ideally immediately after the device is released, is someone who has extremely high standards. Very often, these people will end up unhappy. It's debatable as to whether the fault lies with Apple.

If you look hard enough you'll find fault in anything, this is just buyers remorse. Its a phone, a bump up from the 6s. It's not going to do your laundry or take out the trash or what ever else you think they should be doing. It's only an improvement on the 6s.

Heres the keynote. Not one mention of warmer colors. The gamut was mentioned, and that gamut is whats driving the line on the cinema standard. None of this means yellow tint. I'm sorry but this argument comes up every year. Its never been right, it'll never be right. If they switch to OLED next year we might be past this IPS initial yellow screen issue, but TBD.

No, we won't. My husband and I each had Note 7's. The screens were very different. His had a very distinct aqua tint. Mind had a pinkish tint. Neither was as true a white as our iPhone 6S Plus displays, which aren't perfect, either. So when Apple does switch to OLED screens next year, we will be revisiting this same old stuff again over and over. Sigh.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My husband and I sat out the launch this year. Lol, I joke that I need to go through the five stages of grief mourning the headphone jack. I'm almost to acceptance now. I'm going to wait for the various x-gates to play out before going for an IPhone 7. I already went through boomgate with the Note 7 and will have it back soon to keep me busy. Plus we will be busy making sure our Note 7 AMOLED screens aren't some weird off tint. Sigh. Sigh.

Next year when the iPhone 8 comes out, I'm going to make darn sure that I wait a few days and then pre-order so that the arrival date will come about a month later, and I'll have enough time to review the Mac rumors sites and other sites, so I can still cancel the order and save myself some possible remorse. ;)

One would think a company as experienced and wealthy as Apple could offer better screens on a phone they charge such a high premium price for.

Dingy Yellow displays aren't the mark of a high quality smartphone. Nor should users have to spend time guessing how to fix it.

Samsung doesn't have a problem, why can't Apple get it right?
This is inaccurate. There was a huge noticeable variance in the quality and tint of the AMOLED displays between my husband's Note 7 and mine. Mine was warmer and seemed to be brighter and have slightly better contrast.

I really want to get that out there because when Apple switches to OLED people here are going to be surprised that OLED isn't the panacea to display variances that they seem to be expecting.

Apple source their displays from different companies. The good sharp white one without backlight bleed is from Japan Display Inc (JDI). The pissy yellow one is probably Foxconn/Sharp. You just have to play the display lottery until you get one with JDI.

Yes this is more likely then my original hypothesis. Maybe JDI screens are in shorter supply and they have to use inferior panels at launch. In any case, the good sharp clear panels are the only panels I will accept. i recommend all do the same. If Apple wants to use multiple suppliers, they better make damn sure that both suppliers supply a part of equal quality.

I think people need to keep in mind the 2 year cycle. For me, it was obvious from the start that the iPhone 7 is NOT for 6S owners. If you have a 6S, you will most likely not be very impressed with the 7 (as we see with the OP).

On the other hand, if your coming from a 6 (or 5S in the case of the cute girl standing in front of me at the Apple store line), then the iPhone 7 is definitely a proper upgrade.

Or they could upgrade to the 6S for the same thrills and less outlay...

I dont see any reason to upgrade from 6s to 7 than ois. If you already have 6s and doesnt need ois, why would you even consider 7? Better to wait atleast 7s.

And the massive upgrade that US carrier are throwing at everyone who care.. You can sell you 6s, bought a used 6 (or 5 if you are Verizon owner) and the carrier of your choice will throw $400+ at you feet for you to upgrade it to a 7 or 7+ for your cost of 6 - what you can sell your 6s for.. I think that is incentive enough for a lot of folks.

I'm in that exact position, I'd be happy upgrading to a 6S but it just isn't enough of a saving to justify the older model (to me). Have looked at second hand but they hold their price annoyingly well (plus risk)!

In my experience, launch screens look better and they get worse after the first few batches.

That's just what I've noticed over the years.

Also, cooler vs warmer is a personal preference, not a defect.

You like cool screen temperatures, I like warm. My iPad screen has a yellowish tint to it and it's fine.

I've got to admit that I prefer the look of cool screens but my eyes much prefer warmer displays. I find warm or yellow screens far less fatiguing and after my super-cool 6S+ I'm kinda hoping for a more yellow 7+.

I think youll get your wish. If you get a cool screen im me and we'll do a trade.

This is like the ol' LED light bulb issue.
Some prefer the cooler (bluish white) and some prefer the warmer (warm white) bulbs.

Except the text, brightness and contrast is inferior on the yellow screens. If all were equal, and you could adjust the screen to your preferred temp, thatd be ideal. But see all the complaining about brightness? The inferior screens will never match even the 6S brightness level. Cause they are inferior panels through and through. Apple is counting on you not having one of the good screens to directly compare it to. They've been pulling this profit scam for years.

Agreed. There is a reason why these high end computer monitors (UltraWide, 27", 30", and so on) all use the same technology that is in the iPhone. The IPS display is great for color reproduction and SRGB. That is why professional photographers use them. If OLED was that great, why hasn't computers gotten them really yet?

I've been struggling to decide whether to keep my 7 or not as I already have a 6s......I know there is not much difference between them but I still expected more......until I realised why I'm not seeing that much to get excited for......

I had the IOS 10 Beta on my 6s for a few weeks!!!!

Normally when I get a new iPhone.....even if there are only few small hardware differences....a new IOS provides some awesome new features.......I've come to realise that is maybe what is missing......I've already been using the new features for weeks!!!!

So the lesson here for me is......new iPhone + new IOS = excitement........new iPhone with no new IOS = a bit meh!!!!

No more IOS Betas when there's new hardware on the horizon!!!!!

Sucks for you. Apple will never go back to awful blue-tint displays anymore. All the pro-displays are warm-tone as well. Good riddance.

Too bad for you that there's already examples of blue tint iPhone sevens and in the end that will probably be more blue sevens then warm sevens. It's a vendor issue and not intentional.

The warmer looking screen is actually more correct and closer to D65. It's like tv's. Most people people prefer the much cooler standard setting on their tv, when in fact they should be using Warm2, which is the most accurate setting for white balance on any tv.
