Yeah man, I'm back on the 6S and couldn't be happier. It feels smoother and faster. The artificial lag introduced on the 7 when you return to the home screen is completely unnecessary and random. That one can be fixed in software though so maybe itll get better.

That lag is clearly a bug and not intentional.

I don't think they want the 7 to feel slower than the 6s.

I think what's happening is that they're switching to the low power cores when you go back to the home screen, but they're doing it too soon.

This is asinine and not helpful, nor is it rooted in reality.

Yeah I was just going by a previous comment of yours

"Actually I've ... emailed back and forth with Tim Cook in the past about it, and spoken with Apple Executive relations! Pretty good due diligence I'd say!"

"I was ... pissed. ... and exec relations followed up and got me a nice screen 5. So it worked out."

Am I the only one whose 7 doesn't have a yellow screen? I was SO relieved when I turned my phone on because so many people have said the screen is yellow and isn't bright enough, but mine is fine.

OP I am coming from a 5s so I can't compare the 6s to the 7 but hey, I say keep what makes you happy. Newer does not always mean better!

They aren't or they wouldn't be still highly used in high end computer displays. My ultra wide 34" uses ips and it has awesome black levels and contrast. The Apple Cinema Display is an ips display rated as one of the best ever made and most accurate for color reproduction. That's why most professional photographers use displays like this. Saying it's inferior is wrong.

Professional OLED monitors are now considered the best in the industy. If you have never viewed and OLED tv side by side with an IPS panel tv, then you really have no clue on how much deeper blacks are on OLED. In fact, luminance at 0% can't even be measured, while on the best IPS panels at best they are 0.05, and in most cases much worse. Without absolute black, contrast ratios on IPS panels are lucky to get better than 3000:1, while on OLED it's infinite. They are not good at all. In fact, the movie industry is moving away from post production on IPS panels to OLED, since they are vastly superior with black levels, color accuracy and contrast. The reason why many professional photographers use IPS panels is that they are a lot cheaper than OLED. A 30 inch professional OLED panel costs $30,000. So they aren't using ips panels because they are better, it's because they are cheaper.

None of the reviewers have mentioned any of those negatives and they have been
Living with the phone for two weeks....really!!!
I wouldn't find it odd the fact that the reviewers haven't found a single issue. I bet that they manufacture some phones for the reviews with more care than the rest.

The iPhone 7 I played with yesterday, had the warmer screen. Which I don't mind at all, on it's default setting. Though I can see how someone wouldn't like it.

The beauty about the wide color gamut displays, is that the that new custom control of color/temp/hue you have in iOS10, really shines with the 7's, unlike it can with the 6's on iOS10.

Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Color Filters. That gives you complete control over color and temp.

OP...I'm not suggesting you didn't already know about this, and I'm sorry you weren't happy with the 7, even after playing with these custom settings. Hopefully we'll see ya back for the anniversary edition :)

I didn't see the new accessibility options specifically mentioned much if at all in the previous pages. Apologies if it was.

To those who don't know about it and are unhappy with the default temp, you can change it. I was able to get that iPhone 7 I played with, to the exact same color temperature, as a Note 5 I had for reference. Identical. And the Note 5 has what would easily be considered a cool display hue. So people who haven't tried...definitely jump into Accessibility and check it out.

Cheers!

OP, I am going to keep my iPhone 7, but I think the "yellow screen" you are referring to are not yellow due to a manufacturing issue. Instead, I believe it is two things: 1. They are a lot warmer than previous iPhone screens (Apple stated this), and 2. the iPhone 7 isn't as bright as the 6s and 6. The latter, to me, is the bigger issue and one that perhaps lends itself to this whole 'yellow tint" theory. I am disappointed the iPhone 7 is not brighter and i am hoping that Apple fixes it with a software update.

Aside from the foregoing, I am going to hold onto my iPhone 7 because it was a 'slight' upgrade from my iPhone 6 and also because I got it in a color different from my iPhone 6 and I like it. Time will tell.

Good luck with the 6s and enjoy it.

I enjoy posts like this that tell it like it is.

I'm a current 6 Plus user truly trying to justify this upgrade and the fact that you said it was a slight upgrade from your device might just be the answer I'm looking for.

I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and hold out for next year! Wish me luck!

every year we are comparing this years yellow phone to last years blue tint phone.

Okay, so according to you, every year, Apple starts out by selling phones with yellow tint screens, then at some point switch to bluer screens. But next year, when people compare the new phones with the older phones, how do we know if they have the earlier yellow screens, or the later bluer screens? Not everyone who gets yellow screens returns them, you know. I personally don't care if my screen is yellow or blue as long as it's even. I usually get iDevices within the first month of their release, and some have been yellow and some blue. If I lined up all of them by year and compared their screen tones, my guess is they'd be pretty random. In order to prove your assertion, we'd have to collect a fairly large sample of phones that were bought in the first month after release, then collect an equally large sample of phones bought a few months after release, and compare their screen tones. And we'd have to do this for every iPhone generation. Until someone has done this, your assertion is just an anecdotal observation.

To the OP, Good for you, get what you want, but you've been proved wrong many times since you started this.

Actually not once. But keep telling yourself that.

I can't stop giggling about him lying about corresponding with Tim Cook. That's adorable.

Like I said I emailed Tim and exec relations followed up and I got a new phone. Giggle all you want. This was also on the 5s and not remotely relevant to this discussion. Yes, I regret bringing it up.
[doublepost=1474250282][/doublepost]Final thoughts on the matter:

It's clear that many dont want to think critically and hold Apple accountable in justification of their yellow screens. Thats fine but let me present one more argument for you.

Many have argued that Apple is moving to a warmer temp, its intentional and more correct. To those people, I ask this question: Is the phone in this reply a defect? Disregard the uniformity issue as thats a separate issue, keep this to color temp:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/yellow-gate.1996889/page-7#post-23491271

As you can see, this phone has the same tint as the posters clear, blueish, iphone 6s. The mail icon, the music icon, all look beautiful and clear, and match the 6s. Whats more, the screen is clearly brighter than the 6s, as promised in the keynote.

So is this guys screen a defect then? Since Apple is intentionally moving to warm screens? And if it is a defect, then why does this defective screen have the greater brightness levels promised in the keynote?

In the meantime, the yellow screens have now been measured with light meters and have shown to be less bright than the 6s. Theres entire threads on the lack of brightness and some are calling it brightness-gate. So you're telling me that the correct screen looks a lot worse/different than last years screen AND has lower brightness by design, and any clear looking screens WITH the promised increased brightness are the defects?

Yeah, I'm not buying it. But if you enjoy your dim yellow screen, you should totally keep it.

I can't stop giggling about him lying about corresponding with Tim Cook. That's adorable.

I can confirm that back when the iPhone 5 launched the first one I received from my carrier at the time, VZW, had a broken rear camera right out of the box. This was confirmed at the Apple Store. The second phone from Verizon had what sounded like a loose screw inside the device rattling around. Since Verizon provided me with one exchange within my 14 day grace period they wouldn't send me a third phone. I e-mailed Tim Cook directly and someone from his office in San Francisco called me the following day to straighten things out. I told her I wanted a new, sealed device, which she said couldn't be done. But she did offer to send me a 'remanufactured' iPhone 5 which I reluctantly agreed to.

Fast forward a few days and the phone arrives. Sure enough the battery was loose inside and was clearly banging around inside the housing. I shot a 30 second video clip of me just moving the phone from side to side and the resulting battery movement which could be heard. I e-mailed the woman at Cook's office and she followed right up and apologized several times and finally agreed to send me a brand new sealed phone. The new one was fine, no issues at all. So while Tim Cook himself obviously isn't responding to e-mails, he has a staff that does.

Like I said yesterday and btw I agree with OP

Had I not gotten this as a free upgrade from T-Mobile I wouldn't have done it

Basically same exact ducking phone as the 6S minus that it's black

I see, feel, and notice nothing different

I noticed this while playing with the phone at the Apple store. The only and I mean only saving grace is that me and the wife never owned the Plus model. Otherwise I was struggling in telling my wife what the differences were outside the display. But she was pumped about the Plus so when I got home I preordered a pink Plus (ugly but she wanted it). But next year I highly doubt she would be interested in a new phone unless she hates the large model.

For starters I've noticed the battery is better. Plus low-light pictures will be better.

Yep, exactly my experience. I did exaggerate a bit with the words "back and forth" - the back and forth was with the executive team just like you. But they got me a new phone and all was well.

I've dealt with executive response teams before, too. But I don't say I'm corresponding with the president when I'm talking to their STAFF. Big, big difference.

My 7 screen is better than my 6S+ IMO.

Maybe a tad warmer, but not much, and it seems brighter. I never liked the 6S+ screen and I had 2. They always had backlight bleed and the pressure points. I have neither on my 7. Not sure how the 7+ is. The camera is a noticeable change, and the battery on my standard 7 seems to last nearly as long as my 6S+ so overall I'm content.

Is that lag when returning to the home screen really intentional? I despise it. Only thing I don't like about the phone.
