Can somebody do a vid of that? I just cant picture any advantage to that. You mean it just has a little bounce hen you reach the end of the page?...As if you wouldnt know anyways? Im a bit confused.

Yes, that's the effect.

It's tiny, but with touchcreens it makes a ton of difference. The thing is, a touchscreen does not have a tactile response, so if you slide your finger and nothing moves, it gives an illusion that the device froze, you expect movement.

That's where the bounce-back/rubberbanding effect comes in. It makes the UI feel alive and responsive. And it turns scrolling into a more playful thing.

It would be great if Android had this.

Not if you see the slide bar on the side at the bottom and the bottom light up with the blue glow. Actually the Mini has that bounce effect. I just never really thought much of it and dont find it to be any big deal.

I hope they have a more uniform OS. I love the look of the Google Play Store 4.0. Now, make the whole OS similar to that! It needs a more consistent layout throughout the whole OS.

What do you mean by more uniform? BTW, I like the new Play Store, as it is much easier to navigate, and feels a lot less busy.

It's one of those things where you don't really appreciate it until it is gone. And you never really pay much attention to it until it is gone either.

When I switched to a Nexus 4, it was hard to tell if my phone was freezing or if I had hit the end of the page. I love my Nexus 4, but the bounce effect is a subtle addition that makes a big psychological difference that really adds to the entire user experience.

I guess for some....lol, i didnt realize it was gone when i went to Android and didnt think nothing of it on the Mini. But, thats cool. Some people notice those small things where some dont. Its not something i would scroll down and go "damn, no bounce....that blows". I notice the scrolling line on the side all the time so im aware of it..plus the glow which i dont notice as often as the scrolling line. But that's me.

When other people use my phone and they ask about scrolling, I tell them about the cyan glow at the bottom, top, and sides. Everytime they said they never saw it, and though that my phone was just lagging. So the bounce effect seems to do a much better job at telling the user than a soft blue glow.

Plus the bounce effect ultimately moves your content more. And when you use a touch screen, you expect your touch input to move your content, not make a glow. So this little thing can really add to the responsiveness of the entire OS, even though it is such a small addition.

But of course, everyone has their personal preferences.

But the stock messaging app doesn't include quick reply. In order to reply to a message using the stock messaging app, you have to leave whatever app you are currently in and go to the messaging app. With Go SMS Pro and a lot of other third party messaging apps, they include a quick reply feature.

I won't.

you don't have to use a separate messaging app. Things like popup SMS are just add ons

I actually do not like that bounce-back. The reason is because in order for it to work there needs to be something further on down that is left for the "bounce." Well what if what I want to see is in that section that is hidden. So there were times I would have to hold my finger in the opposite direction to "hold it" so I could see what would immediately be hidden once I remove my finger.

Same with zooming in. At times I wanted to see the maximum zoom level--which was only possible if I held two fingers on the screen. It seemed odd that it was able to zoom more, only to bounce back when I let go.

Didn't take me long on Android to realize the blue glowing bar meant "we're done." At least it shows everything.

I'm looking for an instance where bounce-back actually works as you describe it. All I'm seeing is the bounce occurring into background space, and the return is back to the end of available material.

Where can I find an example of bouncing out of something I actually want to see?

I'm just happy someone understood what I wrote :). I don't have my iPhone with me now but when I get home tonight I will take a look. But an easy test is to go into the camera roll and view a pic. Zoom in as much as you can. After zooming to max notice you can still zoom a little bit more, but that it bounces back when you release your fingers.

Yeah - I've done the zoom thing too. You can pinch to go above or below the maximum or minimum zoom levels, and when you remove your fingers, the image bounces back to the minimum or maximum zoom level available. You can try it in an app like Numbers, where a little notification pops up when you reach max. or min. zoom - you can still go beyond that with the pinch, but it will snap back to the limits. I don't see it as a negative.

I can also go to the Gallery app on my N4, zoom beyond the maximum, and it will also bounce back .... just not nearly as fluidly as in iOS. :D

Ya I used SMS popup but I didn't like it. I prefer the popup inside go SMS PRO.

I didn't really care for SMS popup either. It always seemed like I had a ton of messages "stored" in the pop up. Hopefully klp fixes this and just adds it.

One thing that annoyed me with pop-up replies was when I was in the midst of typing in another app using dictation. The recognized speech was automatically diverted to the pop-up reply window. Nearly sent a few strange messages due to that. Now that I have mastered swype I don't use dictation much anymore.

Gent you know more about this, wasnt you the person that knew all about 4.2.2 before release ? If its you pls share if its not a problem :)

I'm with you. I just saw a story that has the name of it the way he spelled it. He had it right when none of the sites did. I wonder what else he knows.

----------

I see they finally have it spelled correctly lol ;)

How did you know the spelling before the sites did?

I really hope the next Nexus is not by LG.

I really hope the next Nexus is my Motorola.

I wouldn't even mind if Motorola became their dedicated Nexus-maker. Why not? It makes sense, like Nokia is Microsoft's.

All this KLP talk makes me want a Nexus again.
