Do you like the new KEYBOARDS - OWNERS ONLY

I like it! It could be mainly because I am used to light-touch typing. If you type lightly, you'll appreciate the solid feedback the keys provide. But yes, there's simply no travel compared to the previous generation keyboard. So if you like to hit your keys hard, then the experience may be different.

Also, people coming from the new Magic Keyboard should have an easier time adapting to the MBP keyboard.

I was pleasantly surprised I liked the keyboard, since this my desktop/work keyboard:

Now THAT is something that would require a learning curve...

I owned the new one. Actually 2 of them. It wasn't bad imo. Workable for me. Only complaint was fingers got tired after typing a lot but I mean it's hardly a complaint. The new MBP's are the greatest computers imo.

The keyboard was one of the main reasons I returned it. I had mine for just over 2 weeks when they first came out and just could not get used to the lack of travel. As a bit of background I use an IBM model M as my go to keyboard at work and most of my other PCs have various mechanical keyboards with Cherry reds and blues. I preferred the keyboard on my 2013 MacBook Pro Retina over the new one.

I like the new keyboard, after a few weeks of adjustment I can definitely say it's an improvement over the old one. Keys lack travel, true, but presses feel more precise and solid, especially around the edges. The "clicky" feeling and sound of the keys which many people mention as an annoyance doesn't bother me, but I believe it's a completely subjective matter.

It's however undeniable that there have been a few QC issues with it reported by many users, on a level ranging from "I can live with it" (e.g. different keys making a different sound), to "really annoying" (such as keys getting stuck or registering multiple times), so there is certainly room for improvement in a future model.

Well I use about 6 different keyboards. (different workplaces, work laptop(zbook), game-pc, macbook, etc.)
And basically all variants, membrane, mechanical, chiclet.
When you press a key, a letter, number or symbol appears.
So to me it's just another keyboard. Nothing special about it.

I hate to do this to people, but -

I bought the non-TB 13" SG when it came out, and was a bit disappointed with the keyboard (but it's since grown on me), then a few months later (this year) my wife bought the silver 13" non-TB, and that keyboard feels much tighter than on my 13".

The only difference is the color and more recent release date, but there's a difference, and it's still noticeable. There's nothing wrong with mine, I'm really just wondering if some keyboards are different than others..

With poll options 1 & 4, are you assuming a macbook owner's previous laptop was a macbook?

What are the build dates on these?

I like the stability and the size of the keys, I just wished that it has a slightly more travel stroke as I feel my fingers get fatigue faster with these new keys and I find the left and arrow key not to be the same size as the top and down arrow keys make it easy to miss press them.

I come from a 2011 MBA and now own a 2016 MBProTB 15". I voted, "I Like It". I really can't say, I love it, because I'm not sure what exactly is the issue with the new keyboard. I type fine on both my 2011 MBA and 2015 MBProTB.

I hate it. The keyboard on my old MacBook Air was a dream to type on. I wrote four novels on it. With this one I'm typing much slower and still making tons of mistakes. I typed on a Surface Book Pro a few days ago and it reminded me of my old Air. Nice key travel and no mistakes. Apple certainly blew it with this one just to save a few pennies.

My main irritation now is that the Magic Keyboard hasn't been updated to closely match the 2016 MBP keyboards.

Having as close as possible of an experience on desktop and laptop is what I really want so that I'm not always adjusting either way when switching back and forth all week.

Saving pennies usually doesn't happen with an entire redesign of an internal mechanism.

Coincidentally, I read about this yesterday. Keyboard might be on it's way. I don't particularly care because I don't use my touchbar regularly on my current setup, but for those of you that do...

What's it called? Just that Advantage 2 what it says there? I've recently considered getting an ergonomic keyboard since I've started getting pains in my wrist when typing for longer periods of time. I'd like something nice though. Preferably with 19 F-keys

I have switched from previous MacBook Pro generation. I am sensitive to keyboard quality and write a lot (Univ + R&D). I consider this keyboard best ever on laptop -- almost equal to apple wireless keyboard (which comes with iMac). I tried MacBook 12" and keyboard was disappointing -- there is an obvious difference between these two (in favour of rev. 2.0 of course).

Worth mentioning here is that I come from IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad laptops (T43p, T60p, T61p, T410s), which set industrial standard (not now though).

I'm in the "not so hot" group.
I can use it, but I prefer the older one. This one is also loud when typing fast.

The new keyboard is definitely more expensive then the old one. I guess the main issue is still the key travel.

It's the Kinesis Advantage 2. It's an amazing keyboard. Took me a month to get used to it but it is totally worth it (even at its price). My typing speed has gone up, and the wrist pain has gone away.
