A president can implement tariffs on foreign countries, but can a president implement a tariff on an American company specifically? Like, can they single out a US company instead of a foreign country or foreign company?
The iPhone is made in china so I’m sure there is a way to target certain products made in other countries.

Tariffs would be on how much Apple is paying for them, so the production costs in your parlance.

They'd still have to pay the tariffs on the parts that they imported.

It would be production costs + shipping + all other ancillary costs of bringing the product to shore.

I'm waiting for a response from your "Lordship and Overlord of the USA, the one and only with beautiful hair and I know everything and know more than anyone else on the planet" statement from Trump"

If Apple announced they were going to do that, within seconds, Trump would say the tariff is 50%. Then 100%. Then 1000%.

We are dealing with a madman- who on top of being a narcissist sociopath, is an absolute moron. He is far too stupid and egotistical to ever admit, or even know how stupid he actually is.

Of course, all of this could be stopped by Congress, but we have a Republican majority that is petrified of this absolutely insane person.

Overall, this only ends two ways: 1) The Republican caucus finds its spine and other body parts and removes him from office via impeachment or the 25th Amendment; or 2) a Big Mac send from Heaven does its job.

There is a third way: Apple sues and this gets blocked by a judge and remains in legal limbo until either of the choices above happen.

I don’t think those tariffs will happen, it’s a threat to get Apple to move some manufacturing to the US …
Moving iPhone assembly to another location is a multi-year effort, but some other product will move to US and someone will be happy

"It would be more financially viable for Apple to absorb a 25% import tariff on iPhones sold in the United States than to relocate its assembly operations to the U.S., Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today said."

Which is why Trump will raise the tariff to 140%. 🤣

This president doesn't care about what he is allowed to do. He only claims the authority for any of these tariffs by lying that there is a national emergency.

Apple loves to battle in court, as evidenced by the cases they have against Epic, Masimo, Qualcomm, etc.

Like a duck to water.

Whether or not it's legal, Trump will do it. Let the lawyers battle it out over a few years.

We’re all paying the price for yall electing his azz. Smh! Hurry up January 20, 2029!
I remain so happy with my vote!

With regard to the tariff comment this morning, none of us know what’s going on behind the scenes and who’s telling who to go screw. So far the policymaking has been spot on, so I’m willing to cut him some slack to see what happens with this or how this is impacting other negotiations.

Bottom line? None of us know enough of what is going on across the globe to pass judgment yet.

"Wedbush Securities recently estimated that shifting ‌iPhone‌ production to the United States could increase the per-unit cost of an ‌iPhone‌ to approximately $3,500."

Wedbush also said: "We believe the concept of Apple producing iPhones in the US is a fairy tale that is not feasible."

We paid an even bigger price the last 4 years after electing the last guy. Spending an extra few hundred on an iPhone pales compared to how much food, energy, house and other ESSENTIALS have gone up UNDER THE LAST GUY. Many thousands have left your wallet due to massive inflation since 2022.

But “ the price of my beloved iPhone might go up !!!!!!”

Now you people care? Because it affects your stupid phone.

What are the tariffs paid for? The retail price of $999 for example or just on the production costs of an iPhone? Maybe Apple could do the last step of the assembly in the US. Then it is technically produced in the US.
It’s classed as “the last major transformation” - applying a sticker in the US won’t cut it

That's one of the major problems; It shouldn't be "behind the scenes". When it affects the economy the way these tariffs do, it should be out in the open.

I will accept nothing except absolute transparency.

Additionally, the economy should be handled by congress, not the president/executive branch.

Just have Foxcon announce they're going to build a big and beautiful multi billion dollor iPhone assembly plant somewhere in the U.S. (Wisconsin?) Trump will believe them like he did before. By the end of Trump's 2nd term, Foxcon can say that due to changing market conditions, they have to reduce their planned investment.
^^^This. I'm from WI and we saw up close the whole process play out. First Foxconn announces they want to build a plant somewhere in the US. Then a number of states try to one up each other with tax breaks and favors to win the contract. We spent several hundred Million dollars making infrastructure improvements, gigantic tax breaks, dislocated whole neighborhoods, changed zoning laws, etc. to make way for the new Foxconn factory. This took years to play out. In the end Foxconn backed out of the deal and the taxpayers were left with an enormous bill.

I don't wish this on anyone but this is not a bad play on Apple's part. Say they are going to move iPhone production to the US and slowly go through the motions. He'll be out of office, dead, or bored with playing with tariffs before they really have to spend a penny.
