It would be absolutely beautiful if Apple made the new iPP 11” OLED version backwards compatible with the old Magic Keyboard so we don’t have to dump all of them into the trash. I realize there is very little chance of that happening.

My current 11-inch M2 iPad Pro will likely be my last iPad. The Apple Vision Pro will replace it. I can’t wait for the AVP to ship. Bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max just so I can make spatial videos in preparation.

Apple isn't going to kill its lower end iPads because the education market is very lucrative. Also Apple isn't going to price its mid-range tablet as a lower-end tablet because Apple want to make as much money as possible, while being held responsible by shareholders who want Apple to make as much money as possible.

The problem is they are fragmenting the products. There are already too many different iPads.

I think this makes sense for those who just want a larger screen without all the ‘pro’ (snigger) bells and whistles. I know parents and older users in general benefit from that legibility and don’t care about the screen technology or processor.

But I am curious at how they’ll price it, given the Air was already bumped up in price recently. It’ll be very close to the 9.7” Pro…

Samsung tablets, to the best of my knowledge, basically don’t offer anything in the iPad Pro price point. Samsung’s upper tablets are priced around the same as an iPad Air and go down from there to their more mainstream offerings.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra starts at $1200 and goes up to over $1600. Certainly not iPad Air territory.

Remove 10th and 9th gen iPads from sale (keeping the 9th around as cheap education bulk buy); rename iPad Air to “iPad”, keeping the processor and display non-Pro. Give iPad Pro SD Card (for photographers) and MagSafe 3 in addition to its thunderbolt 4 port. It’s not complicated but Apple insists on making the lineup so.

iPad mini, iPad, iPad Pro (with additional ports; pro chip; professional display and larger screen size option)

All should support Apple Pencil 2 and charge it magnetically. USB-C Pencil and Pencil 1 should be discontinued. Apple execs should be slapped.

I don't know why your comment is getting disliked, all these are solid points; Apple has fragmented the iPad line to the point of confusion, different technologies and three different stylus that do not work across the lineup. Pure Exec's meddling that put sales over technology and innovation.

well, it is because you two don't understand business or economics. Different versions exist because market has different income segments. A wealthy family may use Air and Pro ipads, while a lower income family still may afford a simple iPad and a simpler pencil. It is win win for both, Apple and the families. If Apple doesn't offer cheaper versions, the sales would be lost to Android, and families will not get iPads (which are far better tablets). Not everyone can afford Pencil 2, so there is a cheaper version with USB-C. Such elementary things and you can't grasp them. In your world, everyone would ride three models of Mercedes Benz because presumably it is simpler. But we know it ain't the case and never will be. That's why Apple makes cheaper 9 and 10 gens and also makes expensive Airs and Pros. There are also smaller versions and bigger versions and they are periodically updated with newer CPUs and displays. That's it, really, it is that simple.

Because you can't be serious that the entry level iPad has to start at $599? If Apple can drop the price down of the iPad 10th generation down to $399, that's a huge compelling entry level price point to get an iPad. Not everyone needs an anti-reflective coated screen or the power of the M1 chip on their iPad. Why should only education users have to need that type of light performance? Apple can create a clear distinct pricing tier for their main full sized iPads for every type of customer that goes up every $200: $399 iPad 10th generation, $599 iPad Air, and $799 for iPad Pro. That sounds perfect to me.

Furthermore, forcing users that don't need an Apple Pencil for drawing or artistic purposes to purchase the $129 version is also silly. That's a whopping $50 price increase. Does everyone need pressure sensitivity in their Apple Pencil? I'm sure a lot of people would be happy to save that $50 and use their included USB-C charge cable to charge their Apple Pencil.

Ive been telling them for years to put a 13 inch screen in the iPad mini.

It's common sense. The portability of the iPad mini, with the screen estate of the larger Pro. *key thing is, that it's not foldable 🤔

I was reading this post and thinking "well, this does make sense" because, you know, it would be nice to have a "just bigger but nothing else" iPad on the lineup. But, do you know what I think doesn't? The whole iPad Pro line.

I recently got a 11" M2 iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, and quite frankly, I don't know why does anyone need this (M2 for what?) if it wasn't for some features that are not really that "Pro" nowadays (such as FaceID).

Given the state of the tablet market, I think an iPad line composed of the 7,9" mini, 11" Air and 12,9" Air (all called just "iPad", with the same features and all supporting the Apple Pencil 2), would be all that is needed. Maybe throw in a low cost 9,7" iPad SE, and a premium iPad option, but that's it. Otherwise, the iPad line is really confusing, and adding yet another size option... well, I don't know.

Sounds like no one’s buying the pro models and air is unsurprisingly more popular.

Mini LED has been an utter failure of a tech, Apple knew it was a terrible stopgap and that’s why the 11” pro never got it.
Has it been a failure? OLED has screen burn-in -- that sounds more of an utter failure to me. Can't wait to see my OLED iPad screen burn-in my home page or lock screen.

I agree... it's pretty messy. Walk into an Apple Store these days and it's just a huge bunch of iPads, with no clear distinction to an average consumer walking in off the street about the differences between them. There should just be a lower end version and iPad... no Air, no pro...

Thats what its needs to be across all of their lineups.. get rid of Air and Pro. What does Air even mean now??? MacBook Air, should just be named MacBook also... in any case, the 12 inch MacBook was more 'Air' than MacBook Air 🤔

iPad SE and iPads (with two different sizes).. maybe supporting the same keyboards and accessories.. So if you do end up wanting/needing a better version, you can just get the other iPad... and not have to get a completely new set of accessories. It would fit in with their green credentials... but I guess that might be asking too much.

oh, and two pencils, at most, and supporting the entire range... not necessarily every function etc

I actually really dislike going to an Apple Store these days... there's nothing exciting.. just lots the same thing, after same thing... loads of different versions of iPads, MacBooks, the iMac... each individually is great... but boring like crazy..

Bright clinical lighting... boring shelves, boring tables piled with a bunch of devices which are just slightly different to one another. Nothing wows you.

Even the accessories they stock are boring...

They all have different prices if you have not noticed

It’s good to have choices. You aren’t buying them all so nothing confusing. Pick the model at the top of your budget. Done.
If you pick the model at the top of your budget but not the model that suits your needs... you will end up spending more than you need to. (Yes, this is what apple wants)

But most sensible people...

You should look at what you need... see what you can get. And key thing here, to compare with other options from Microsoft, Samsung, Asus.... Google even... compare the whole market.

You know I had no idea they were priced differently. I never knew that.
Imagine that they all are differentiated by price so you can choose one which is best for your budget. As tablets they all perform similar functions, but some have better speakers and displays or chips. Pretty hard to grasp i know. Some car manufacturers allow you to choose SUV or sedan and even have different colors or options for an engine like diesel or gas. Pretty difficult, isnt it
