11.4, haven't updated to 11.5 yet.
Sometimes I really see no difference from booting without this kext loaded, thought the kext wasn't loaded but the script says it does, chances of successful boot are around 1 out of 3 in cold boot, haven't tested warm yet

You have to play with the `latebloom` and `lb_range` values (probably increase). See the second post to get good starting values for your system.

(I tried many values and this boot issue is a mess with or without LB)

Question. Have you tried to boot without all the storage in there?

I only have one drive in the machine. A PCIe Crutial 2.5"
Ok, probably my understanding of what the report says. Seems to indicate at least 3-4 storage disks with different DiskId's. I know on mine with 11.5 with only 1 storage bay (even with all the PCIE's which includes 2xNVME's and 1x PCIE SSD) It booted perfectly in with Cold Boots and 50% with warm boots. As soon as I add a second sled in. It wont boot into 11.5 at all. Fails every time. Remove the sled (regardless of which sled) and boots fine again. That was why I was wondering.

UPDATE!

1. Created a USB 3.0 installer with 11.5RC and built OCLP using 0.2.4 UI
2. Installed a fresh copy of 11.5RC (Had to force shutdown several times to get it to finish)
3. After it booted successfully I warm and cold booted at least 10 times with about 3 hangs.
4. Crossed fingers and will report back lol

Im really new to this and I am trying to figure out how to try it. Do I just drop the kext file in the kext folder after I mount the EFI? also I can't find where to edit the Lateboom, lb_range, or the lb_debug values. If anyone can help that would be great. thank you!

Below is my system's Latebloom check v10.app output. I have had 100% success so far with cold and warm boots of Big Sur 11.4 and Big Sur 11.5.

The only time that I encountered a stall in booting was during the upgrading process from Big Sur 11.4 to 11.5. The verbose output stopped at an apfs line. I powered down and then powered up and the installation process resumed and completed the successful upgrade to Big Sur 11.5.

Completely failed any attempt to boot last night - warm and cold. It turned out to be a 10TB USB drive plugged into a hub connected to a USB 3 port on one of my cards. Normally this drive is only plugged in for CCC clones. Unplugging solved it.

macOS 11.4 to 11.5 Update

Was able to run an OS update completely not from home, actually VNC'd into the machine and was able to VNC when it finished. As before, Latebloom with 100ms delay and 20ms range and debug worked for my MacPro3,1:

I have been using latebloom ketx very successfully ( 200 20 1 ) for more than 10 days in BS 11.4.

My experience updating via OTA from 11.4 to 11.5 has been a little bit hard. I have had 7 fresh and warm reboot failures (hanging right in the middle of the progress bar). Now I finally got a successful booting and it seems latebloom continues doing its job with very good performance.

Maybe it is not related but I see some failures booting my Windows 10 EFI (hangs from the very beginning). That was very rare before latebloom.

Thank you @Syncretic and all the people here.

Kexts can't really affect other OSes, as OpenCore cannot inject kexts into non-macOS environments. What you're experiencing is more than likely a coincidence or related to the force shutdowns from the macOS hangs (as this kills power to the hardware instead of letting them go through proper shutdown procedures). Same reason some experience data corruption, the hang itself is not at fault but instead the forced shutdown the user must do can inadvertently create issues

First, thanks to @Syncretic and everyone else working on this... Here's a data point in case it helps:

I successfully installed a fresh copy of 11.5 on a SATA SSD in a MP 5.1, running latest OC and latebloom, and can boot/warm-reboot consistently with one exception:

- As long as I use only 3 out of 4 disk bays (all SSDs), it consistently boots without issues…
- As soon as I add the 4th SSD it consistently fails to boot… it doesn’t seem to matter which bay is left empty, as long as one is.

My settings are latebloom=220 and lbrange=20.
My system is populated with all bays full, 3 spinners and one SSD. The SSD has Mojave and Windows.
There is one additional eSATA SSD on a PCiE card currently running Big Sur and containing the EFI used by OC.
There is also a PCIe NVME drive currently running Catalina.
It all boots fine unless I have an additional drive on the USB bus.

As what are those disks formatted?

They are all APFS… I also have 2x in the DVD bays, and one Apple SSD (AHCI) in PCIE slot, so the total I can successfully boot with is 6 SSDs (3x in bays, 2x in DVD, 1x pcie)… i tried different latebloom values with similar results (currently using 240 with lbrange 20).

I’m not sure if this helps get to the root cause or just a consequence of whatever is causing it, I just wanted to share in case it helps…

This is an early-2009 Mac Pro cross-flashed to MP5,1 firmware, or MP4,1>5,1. An early-2009 Mac Pro with MP4,1 firmware don't even support a X5690 or any other Westmere Xeon. This matters.

Man, cold boot, warm boot - Big Sur 115 is running so well I am really tempted to put it back on my NVMe from the SSD and putting Catalina back on the latter. 3x drive performance difference.
Big Sur is just flying on OC 0.7.1 with latebloom and Radeonboost.
I'll live with the quirky USB issues.
