Having only one macOS installation in the system
Perhaps my experience is not typical enough, but I can point out that I currently have Mojave, BS 11.4 and BS 11.5.1, and I've booted them all (through latebloom in the case of BS and via OpenCore in all three cases) without issues, although, admittedly, just once in the case of Mojave, another time in the case of BS 11.4 and three times in the case of 11.5.1. It doesn't seem as if BS 11.5.1 is "offended" by the presence of BS 11.4 and Mojave. But, as I say, it's quite likely my experience isn't prototypical enough. Maybe if I were to boot 11.5.1 more often with this hardware I would get several hangs, which, in turn, might be alleviated by removing the disks with older operating systems. I have a GPT/MBR hybrid disk for Legacy Windows; the other three disks are APFS, and they are all of the mechanical, rotating type.

As long as Mojave, Catalina, and Big Sur do not share Containers, they do not influence each other.
I can boot Mojave and Catalina without OC, and Catalina and Big Sur with OC/latebloom.
Big Sur does not always complete booting. But I have stopped fiddling with values, other values just seem to make it worse - latebloom=200 lb_range=20 lb_debug=1 seem to be best for my config.
I can also boot Windows 10 without OC. It has the standard BIOS emulation BootCamp install.

I would NOT recommend living without a Mojave partition/disk.

For clarification @PeterHolbrook, you only booted Latebloom once with 11.4 and 3 times in 11.5.1? If so, I am not sure how useful/reliable that is as a report for this beta testing thread. I assumed you had tested with more boots in my past replies to you. Nevertheless, we have had enough reports with substantial number of boots at this time, so the general take is that Latebloom is indeed working very very well.

I personally can confirm that, in addition to my previous report (20 boots with 11.4 and 20 boots with 11.5.1 resulting only in 5 hangs total), I have had great success at multiple boots recently with my complete system setup (as per my signature plus external USB 3.0 hub). I did about 8 additional boots over the past 4 days, all successful with no hangs.

I don't think my numbers or those of other users were ever intended to be infallible guidelines for anyone, only roughly representative ones, from which other members can zero in for their respective roughly similar configurations. Mine is a production machine, and I can't usually afford to start booting it up repeatedly just to see how often it succeeds/fails. Ever since I started using latebloom, I pointed out that my main hurdle was in the installation of BS 11.3+, and for that I found latebloom very useful, as it, more than once, succeeded in eventually installing an update of Big Sur after few fails, something that had only happened once before (for 11.4, but which never booted to the Desktop). Then, once the installation of Big Sur ended successfully, booting to the Desktop of 11.4, 11.5 and 11.5.1 (installed on top of 11.5) has been quite satisfactory, but I've only done it less than 5 times.

Thanks for clarifying that you booted less than 5 times with Latebloom, and based on your account if I am understanding it correctly, most of those 5 boot were part of the upgrade process so not even user initiated? I was not asking for a personal reason/rationale on the boot number as that would be off-topic, I was only asking for the actual number of boots to assess how to re-assess your previous replies to me and others in the previous pages. I understand your thinking described above in terms of what this thread is for etc, nonetheless you have been quite active in this thread, even moderating it I would add, providing replies and recurrent insights on your system's stability in addition to any initial report you posted. Based on the 5 boots account, my view is that it is very difficult for you to make any valuable/meaningful claim about the stability of your system. It could be that it crashes every other boot from now on, if you tried, or maybe not. That's what testing is for. That's what this thread is for.

No, failed and/or successful install processes are NOT included in that tally. My limited experience makes me quite confident BS 11.3+ can indeed be booted with some degree of confidence on my cMP, something that was not true before latebloom made its appearance. As for how successful future boot processes will be, I can’t predict anything. My crystal ball needs repairing.

EDIT: In addition, the tally of 5 boots to Desktop is taking into account only the ones after the successful install of 11.5.1, but not three or four of 11.5 before that and another three or four of 11.4 on an experimental disk before 11.5.1. My initial testing of latebloom trying to boot a presumably corrupt 11.4 was very disappointing (roughly one dozen failed attempts or so). Then I reinstalled 11.4 and it worked after a couple of tries, and then 11.4 booted several times in succession, both with and without latebloom, both with cold and warm boots. As said, none of this is included in the tally of five.

Thanks for the additional details, but I am not sure they necessarily give more clarity on your success rate (in fact I feel quite a bit more confused now.) My views and impressions expressed in post #431 still stand. Let us know if/when you are able to fix your crystal ball.

Can we get an average of the data we've seen so far in all of the reports in order to set expectations for everyone plus newcomers?

For example, it might be worthwhile coming up with a statement such as, "While this is an average of all data collected so far so please do not think you'll see the same result: On average it takes 2.25 boot attempts or roughly 3 minutes to have go into a successful boot process when you have an average of 42GB RAM."

I think this would not only be helpful at indeed setting these expectations, but also encourage more people to give this a try. It's sometimes hard to bite the bullet with a concern about what to even expect as far as a time investment goes.

I can't see how that could be done. Who would do the math? In post #2 you can see several experiences in the use of latebloom, several of them being indicative of vastly different hardware setups. Perhaps you can do the math yourself from that data, but I can't see how that would truly be indicative of a precise likelihood of success for another case. For instance, if you take my case (something @Stex doesn't seem to like much), I've done very limited experimentation after my successful installation of BS 11.5.1. Just three boot processes of 11.5.1 after the installation itself, and all were successful. Does that mean that a 100% success rate is a realistic possibility? Probably not. If I were to reboot into BS 11.5.1 one further dozen times, or fifty times, or one hundred times, I would probably get a success rate clearly less than 100%. Now, do I want to do that for the sake of statistical accuracy? No. Three successful attempts are enough for me to know that there's a good chance that I can get to the desktop without too much trouble. Maybe my next attempt will fail, but I'm quite confident that a successful boot will occur shortly afterwards.

I don't recognize Latebloom either using OpenCore Patcher 0.2.4 or manually installing lightroom.kext into the specified folder. I have used the latebloom checker and it comes up as "latebloom.kext is not loaded". I also use the config.plist provided by this contributor with the same result. How can I get my Mac to recognize latebloom?

Thanks in advance.

It's not your Mac, as such, that should recognize latebloom, but OpenCore itself. You ought to place latebloom.kext in your EFI/OC/Kexts folder of your blessed EFI boot volume, and the following (or something very similar) is to appear in your relevant config.plist file:

Code:
    <dict>
    <key>Arch</key>
    <string>x86_64</string>
    <key>BundlePath</key>
    <string>latebloom.kext</string>
    <key>Comment</key>
    <string>PCI delay for BS/Monterey</string>
    <key>Enabled</key>
    <true/>
    <key>ExecutablePath</key>
    <string>Contents/MacOS/latebloom</string>
    <key>MaxKernel</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>MinKernel</key>
    <string>20.4.0</string>
    <key>PlistPath</key>
    <string>Contents/Info.plist</string>
    </dict>

within the "Add" array of the Kernel section of that config.plist.

And, finally, you must include something like no_compat_check latebloom=100 lb_range=20 lb_debug=1 as boot-args in the NVRAM/Add/7C436110-AB2A-4BBB-A880-FE41995C9F82 section.

There is no mistake in the placement of latebloom.kext, and there is no mistake in the description of config.plist. I didn't make any mistake in using the bless command, and the OpenCore bootloader screen is fine.

Could you upload your config.plist?

This file is the same as the OpenCore Patcher.

@ZNDK What OS are you testing LateBloom on? If you look in the config.plist generated, a MinKernel of 20.4.0 is set. This corresponds with 11.3's kernel version, thus older OSes will not have latebloom injected
Are the commas after latebloom values, "latebloom=250, lb_range=1, lb_debug=1" reason for concern?

It would still set the correct values however it's technically incorrect for a boot-arg, seems to be a typo in OpenCore Legacy Patcher

Though this wouldn't cause the kext to not load

In other words, can I update to 11.3 in my current state?

Correct, there should be little concern
However as others will point out, always keep a native or easy to boot OS in the scenario that 11.3+ have repeated boot hangs. This lets you mess around with latebloom arguments more easily instead of constant retries until you're in the OS

Just tried to install 11.5 from createinstallmedia stick with OCLP 0.24 and those 250ms latebloom settings what oclp builder sets.

(5.1, Single X5690, 64GB, AHCI Blade)

250/1/1 -> createinstallmedia stick hung
150/10/1 -> createinstallmedia stick hung
100/10/1 -> createinstallmedia stick hung
70/10/1 -> createinstallmedia stick booted, installing right now

as the most of us have success in the 150 range, I think 250 is a little too high for Mac Pro preset.

it installed without hung and rebooted 3 times automatically.

11.5 report:

After success I update OC 0.6.8 > 0.7.2 and then OS to 1.5.1. Hung 1 time during installation, shut down manually then on, installation continues and finish. Then 3 successful warm restarts (booting from NVME drive). Everything works fine!

Used kexts:
AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext
FeatureUnlock.kext
latebloom.kext
Lilu.kext
WhateverGreen.kext

Changing ThirdPartyDrives and ExternalDiskIcons to <true/> in Quirks shows my SSD PCI drives as internal. Before that change they shows as external. I do not use method from ST.

Thanks a lot for so beautiful kext. Cheers.

Here's my report on my update to OC 0.7.2.

First (warm) boot to a 0.7.2 USB flash drive. The system hung.
Second (cold) boot to the same 0.7.2 USB flash drive. The system hung.

I thought the above was unexpected. I noticed that I had several external devices connected to my Titan-Ridge Thunderbolt card, so I switched them off.

Third (cold) boot to the same 0.7.2 USB flash drive. Success.

I updated the EFI of my normal Big Sur disk to OC 0.7.2.

Fourth (warm) boot to Big Sur 11.5.1 disk via the internal OC 0.7.2 EFI volume. Success. I reconnected the external devices after reaching the Desktop.
