The display of the XR next to iPhone X/XS just looks mediocre.

This is back to this being very subjective. To you it would be that way but in my experience I can see a difference, just not a massive one. I certainly wouldn’t pay more for that difference either which is good as it narrows my options down even more. I get to compare my 8+ to the XS on a daily basis and even then the difference is not at all compelling. If it was then there wouldn’t be a need for the XR or older models because everyone would be buying the top tier devices.

I mean, I see your side to this, but I think to an average consumer, they can’t differentiate the differences really. They just see a ‘colorful display’, they don’t know what OLED even is, let alone the difference of LCD.

I personally don't know if PWM affects me or not, but I absolutely love the blacks of an OLED. It always looks as if there is no display there, it blends so well.
