Not too happy about the November delay. I am aiming for an iPhone 12 Pro Max and it will be really annoying if the delivery time will slip very soon to January 2021.
Believe it or not it will definitely be delayed till January or February. Look at what happened to Apple Watch! Released in September and some models are out until November.

That never happened with iPhone X and that product wasn't available until November 2017.

Anyone has an ELI5 explanation of what shooting directly in Dolby Vision exactly means? How does it compare to shooting in HDR?

Dolby Vision is one of two competing HDR standards. The other one is HDR10.

HDR10 supports 10-bit color. Dolby Vision supports 12-bit. (The actual difference between the two is less than that, because there’s no display hardware at present that can support the full Dolby Vision color range, even at the cost-is-no-object professional level.)

HDR10 is an open-standard while Dolby Vision is proprietary, which means Apple has to pay a licensing fee to use it.

Of all the things in this world to get “so pissed off” about, you picked a product that Apple has never promised to be released on a specific date and time. I guess Apple should go ahead and release AirTags, even though it (allegedly) isn’t ready for product release and use, so that you can stop being “so pissed off.” If Apple did that for you, your joy would last less than 5 minutes after unboxing, as you would then be “so pissed off” about Apple releasing a product before it’s ready, just to make sales.

Here is a thought: Stop and think about what you said and the focus of your anger, and then refocus on something more meaningful and logical to be “pissed off” about.
here’s another thought: how about let people be pissed off about whatever they want to be pissed off about?

anyways the homepod mini looks cool :D

Yeah I’m going to be upset if the shipping times start slipping for the 12 Pro Max into January 2021. Hopefully the silver is an unpopular color in 256GB. I even saved enough for the 512GB version if the dates start slipping for the 256GB.

No one is stopping you from being “pissed off” about stupid and illogical things.

The mini may look cool but, I want to see and hear what it can do before dropping a $100.

The iPhone X wasn't released during a pandemic though.

Foxconn reported returning back to normal in late March.

There was absolutely no evidence of supply problems with SE2 nor the countless other Android phones launched this year.

They all slip to the same degree more or less within a few minutes/hours of each other. Apple makes proportionally fewer 512GB models w.r.t the number of customers who go for this model.

When I preordered my 512GB XS Max in 2018, I did so in the afternoon, I think Preorders went live at 3AM EST/12AM PST, and I still got it on launch day, the only other preordered iPhone I did was the 7+, 256GB, ended up getting the Tuesday after launch. Idk if it was because the XS Max was 512GB and not many people buy the bigger storage, or because they didn't think it was that big of an upgrade. As for the 7+, I didn't understand why mine got delayed till the Tuesday after launch, but didn't matter, was just happy to have it that soon. The only other iPhone I ordered online was the 6S+ in 2015, I actually ordered mine like a few weeks after preorders/launch date(s), and got it like two days later, while I read in the ATT thread at the time how they didn't get the same model I ordered, like ATT didn't stick to the whole prioritizing who orders first, so maybe it's just a crapshoot, but ordering a iPhone is easier than a damn PS5 or XBOX Series X, failed on both of them, but in the end, not worth the money right now, when the games are on PS4 and XBOX One too, and I decided to just get a MacBook Pro 13 Inch 1TB in Feb or March 2021.

Nice analysis video about these leaks from Rene Ritchie!
He misinterpreted the "4x/5x optical zoom" tho. According to the focal lengths it's 2x / 2.5x for the pro / pro max respectively and 4x/5x if you start from the ultrawide shot.

Bummed by no 120hz and the late November release for the Pro Max (and the fact that it still has that horrible name). I'm happy they keep further improving the camera system, but the 11/Pro is already elite tier and I wouldn't consider that enough of a reason alone to upgrade this year.

I can’t see them marketing it as 2.5 x zoom....would be rather pointless. When they say 4x optical it should be as it is on the note ultra. Otherwise it isn’t real 4x/5x.

Yes, true.
I was just pointing out that Kang said “the entire system can do 4x/5x optical zoom” and that people are misinterpreting this as real 4x/5x optical zoom.

We don’t know how Apple is going to market this (4x on entire system is equal to current pro models so probably they won’t even talk much about it).

Difficult to assess whether the leak is 100% accurate or not ........ I'm sure the tech side is probably pretty near the mark (we will see very soon) ....... but dont you think Apple cover various bases by filming / transcribing more than one aspect that is variable ? Like the release dates, countries of availability etc .......... much the same as your favourite soap operas (if you have one) film various versions of significant and highly publicised events so that not even the general cast always know the broadcast outcome..... just food for thought :)

1. Kang is a well-known leaker with an extremely good track record.

2. Kang's info probably isn't just based on watching the launch video. The film industry doesn't need 12-18 months to design, test, and ramp manufacturing to assemble 80 million devices. All they need to do is write a script and shoot. In many cases, re-shoots are factored into the budget because audience feedback is needed. Apple doesn't design, test, and manufacture and then go back to the drawing board.

1. I dont doubt that, I said the tech side is probably near the mark .... thats what takes the 12-18 months to ramp up
2. I didnt suggest he watched Youtube and I didnt suggest they go back to the drawing board ...... I was talking about variables like a release date etc (I actually said that) ... something that can easily be changed and something that is easy to guard

If true I think tomorrows iPhone announcement is going to be underwhelming. I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max and probably won't upgrade. The iPhone 12 seems to be taking it back to the look of the iPhone 4 and 5, that is rather disappointing we are suppose to be moving forwards not backwards.

Taking out the charger and earphones is also a bad idea and I fear a penny pinch on Apple's part. I will however reserve my opinion until I see tomorrows event, I'm normally looking forward to seeing the next iPhone but not this year, too me at least it seems very underwhelming.

one is also made out of aluminium instead of stainless steel and less ram I think
Yep true, that's it according to the leaks !
I just don't see any value for stainless steel since aluminium is lighter so it's just better for maniability ! Most people put cases so even if you prefer the shiny look of stainless steel in practice few people will enjoy it. 😅

the battery life might be better on the 12 pro too, like 1 hour longer than the 11 pro

(doesnt make sense, since 12 and 12 pro both have the same screen size, the same form factor, shouldnt they have the same battery size and battery life??)

I don’t see the advantage of a stainless body either and would opt for aluminium given the choice. You’re right it’s heavier and often gets hidden inside a case anyway. The 7000 series aluminium is also a bit more of an innovative material in my view.
